Suspend disbelief and you’ll be ok.
It’s a romance... the plot is unbelievable but the writing is good. The characters are two dimensional. Grace, the heroine, is weak-willed and not very smart, Sean, the Hero, isn’t going to be joining Mensa anytime soon. If you’re ok with all that then this is an amusing listen.
** spoilers ahead
The worst part of the story was Grace’s character. A 40y.o. widowed mother she finds herself caught up in a web of deceit and international intrigue. Along the way she finds fulfillment in the world of BDSM when she submits to Sean. Grace discovers the freedom and joy often written about in these novels when she puts her safety and trust in the hands of Sean the dominant. The problem is Grace “knows” Sean is worthy and can be trusted despite all evidence pointing to the contrary. To that point in the story he had repeatedly lied to her, invaded her privacy at home and at work, used hidden surveillance on her, had unprotected sex with her without Grace’s permission or knowledge, drugged her, stole from her, kidnapped her, threatened her with physical violence and jail and accused her of criminal activities. Despite all this she “knew” she could trust him.
It would be nice occasionally to read a story about a woman who had a backbone and didn’t lose 40 IQ points at the prospect of receiving an orgasm with the help of a caveman who really has a heart of gold beneath his rough and crusty exterior.

Annoying H and h
The storyline wasn't that bad I just found the heroine extremely annoying. They made her out to be bratty, but I didnt see that at all. Grace was extremely weak in her mannerism. She forgave too easily for a woman who was suppose to be strong in character. What woman would allow someone even the one she suppose to have loved, let them walk out of there life with a note, then completely back in because he demanded it! What person would forgive friends who completely lie to them? It wasn't just Sean who betrayed Grace, they all did and she just forgave them, I didn't respect the character of Grace. Sean wasn't much better, he blamed everyone else for his decisions, he let his brother come between him and his woman, he didn't know what he wanted.
I wish Grace would've made them all work a lot more for her friendship and her love, she was worth more.

The narrator killed it for me...
I desperately wanted to enjoy this book but the narrator killed it for me. He was awful unless you like William Shatner narrating a BDSM story. Annoying as hell. Takes all the sexiness out of it. Too many highs and lows in his voice, with emphasis in the wrong places. Then the pauses after every sentence. urrrrr I just can't do this again. This is my last book by Ryan West.
I skipped many chapters so I really don't know the whole story. I just couldn't get pass the narrator. The story seemed very interesting and I was looking forward to getting into the series. From what I heard, I liked the story.
I suggest you listen to the sample in full before purchasing this book.
I'm sorry. Not fair to Lexi Blake. I'm going to look for Lexi's other books with a different narrator. I don't want to give up on the author just as yet. I am going straight to book 9.5 "Just One Taste" which is narrated by Sebastian York. OMG! What a surprise. He's one of my favorite narrators. He's awesome. Looking forward to jumping into this book.

You will be HOOKED!! Good sex and you get to laugh
I am not sure how I found this book but once I started listening to it I couldn't stop. First off you could not ask for a better narrator. I listen to lots of audible books but I must say Ryan West puts this story on a whole new level. I just found this series so I never read the books but I am so happy I found this audio series. I give this book five stars in everything. This was a very sexy Dom story on top of being super funny. In this book you got to laugh and you got good sex. There is no going wrong with this book/series. Lexi Blake writes great stories and Ryan West really knows how to narrate them.

Great narrator for one of my favorite books
Would you consider the audio edition of The Dom Who Loved Me to be better than the print version?
I'm completely biased as this is one of my favorite books, but it was very easy to listen to and the performance by Ryan West made it one of the few audio books that I will listen to again in the future.
What about Ryan West’s performance did you like?
Excellent job on all the different male voices, each had a distinct tone that was easy to follow. Also really appreciated his ability to do the female voices. Sometimes it doesn't go so well, but the female voices flowed smoothly and were some of the best I've heard. Having a "good" Grace voice was important to me and I was very happy with his performance.
Any additional comments?
This book is a great set up for the Masters and Mercenaries series. You meet all of the main players but don't feel overwhelmed by too much back story. There are enough hints there that pull you into the next book to find out their story.

not sure how I feel about this
it was okay, not great, but okay. I wish the author had fleshed out the spy part of the story, I feel like it was a BDSM story with the spy part filled in around it. I happy I didn't pay a credit for this story, but I will listen to story 2, and make a better decision then

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SERIES
Lexi Blake has created the perfect series. You can feel the connection and comradely between all the characters. It's like you're in the room with them. They're all Dom's and Submissive's and their also x-military and x-CIA. Now they all work at a security company which also does side jobs for the CIA.
Yes...this book has detailed BDSM, action, mystery, suspense and fun. If you like this type of book you'll love this series.
Ryan West draws you in with his performance.

Awful narration - decent story
I've read the book and liked it. The narrator is so bad I can't stand listening to it and will return it. He reads every sentence as though it is the first sentence in a chapter, with emphasis on the first few words and trailing off towards the end. It is an aural roller coaster.
For those interested: The Masters and Mercenaries books are 1/3 BDSM story, 1/3 action, and 1/3 'mystery' (usually figuring out who is threatening / hurting a main character). I enjoy the stories because the characters are borderline believable and don't suffer from some abusive background that supposedly causes them to have screwed up love lives. The sex is hot and the plots are interesting though not very layered / detailed. I wasn't expecting John LeCarre, though, so I'm okay with that.

Pretty dreadful plot.
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
People that don't think very much.
Has The Dom Who Loved Me put you off other books in this genre?
No.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The cropping scene was quite good, even if I didn't like the plot points around it.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, the book had moments and hence why I didn't give it one star, but they were few and far between in my opinion.
Any additional comments?
The major problems with this book is that the author was not smart enough to pull off the plot she imagined. You have a group of ex-special forces guys working for the CIA chasing down a supposed terrorist group. This would be ok except for the fact the CIA has no legal ground for operating on US soil. Add in that the brother of the person they are chasing is known to them, the person they are chasing they see on numerous occasions and yet for some reason they all focus on a PA instead. This made ZERO sense, as they knew who the bad guys were, but did nothing to capture them when they could have with ease. They didn't even bug the brothers office or home, but do so to hers. This again makes no sense other than to provide a reason for a romance story. I guess realism be darned.
Also, this book shows the flaws of a woman writing about men with no idea of them clearly. The men in the book all fighting over a woman unprofessionally, or punching each other at random times for very little reason. I just don't believe in it.
Then there was the spy craft in the book. It's the modern age, but at the end when they were staking out a party they have to run to and from a room a floor below to report to the guy running the operation. These are supposed to be special operation trained guys and the CIA and yet they don't even have communications tech to talk to each other?
The final straw is the relationship between the two main characters. A DS relationship is largely built on trust and honesty. In this it could not be further from that. At one point the male MC actually says, "Tell me how I lied other than my name and what I do for a living." Add in investigating her and sleeping with her under a heap of lies and I didn't believe in her responses to this at all.
Also, the male MC reads her like a book when they first meet, and again towards the end. He can tell every time she lies and knows every emotion she is feeling. Then in the middle he suddenly can't at all when it matters. It just boggles the mind the inconsistency. All in all I just found myself irritated with the plot and the characters.

LOVED IT WITH HEA
What a beautiful love story, yes some might say deception whilst others will see it how it began
Sean Tagget & his old military men working undercover for the CIA Then when he meets pa Grace Hawthorne who they're investigating as well as her boss for selling information to other countries.
But he can't help himself he has to have her, he's falling for her, especially the tell tale lines of the submissive she is. & when she falls for his talk & charisma she had to have him, but she's terrified as she hadn't been with anyone since (or before) her husband died 6 yrs prior & she's never done any of the ways Sean takes her to but what she had dreamed about.
Then Team Leader (who is His brother Ian) takes him off being her personal trailer. As he jeopardised the situation what with sleeping with her & his team mates can see he's falling for her, so he wouldn't be able to do his job unprofessionally what with his feelings being so much deeper. Then they had to pull her in before they can finish off their investigation.
Sean didn't then have the time to let her know the truth about the feelings he's getting. Then Would She believe the truth about his feelings after she finds out he & the others she started to become close to, were investigating her & she was.one of the.main people they were investigating. Though he didn't really think she had anything to do with it & he then WAS TOO scared to tell her the truth.
So will everything turn out the way you'd want it you....

Loved it!
I really enjoyed this book, it had me gripped til the end. This is a fairly lengthy listen and I had it finished in three days, I listened for over 8 hours on day 3 and was thoroughly entertained throughout.
I read some of the reviews beforehand and am surprised by some. One complained about it being explicit, it's called The Dom Who Loved Me, I'd thought the clue is in the title! If you aren't into erotica fiction then this isn't for you.
Another complained about the use of CIA when they have no jurisdiction within the US, all I can say is they didn't listen to the whole story.
I'm heading straight to buy book 2 in the series!

Absolute Garbage
Gave up! Hated every minute of it, just sex, sex, and sex. Pornographic! I was very annoyed I used a credit on it. What a waste.

It was the best of both worlds...
...A submissive in the bedroom and an utterly reliable partner in the outside world.
Masters and Mercenaries is one of my all time favourite series (and with 21 books and counting, you know it's a great series when readers have stuck with it for so long)!! I adore Grace and Sean's story and love that we don't start with Ian - despite him being one of the bosses of McKay-Taggart and the owner of BDSM club Sanctum - but that we get to know him through his brother. Sean is a man who never thought he'd settle down until Grace becomes involved in a case about her boss... and Grace is widowed mother to two college boys and never thought she'd get a chance to find love again. This book has all the heat, all the romantic suspense, all the laughs and lots of feels... and starts off an overarching plot that you'll want to see through to the very end!!
I will say that it really feels like this is Ryan West's first book in this series as he doesn't quite have the character voices quite right. I could definitely listen to this one ok and found the story just as enjoyable, but the voices aren't quite there ...
