Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Lorraine Heath continues her Once upon a Dukedom series with this lush love story of a duke who discovers what he desires in a wife may not be what he needs....

Hugh Brinsley-Norton, the duke of Kingsland, is in need of a duchess. However, restoring the dukedom - left in ruins by his father - to its former glory demands all his time, with little room for sentiment. He places an advert encouraging the single ladies of the ton to write why they should be the one chosen, and leaves it to his efficient secretary to select his future wife.

If there exists a more unpleasant task in the world than deciding who is to marry the man you love, Penelope Pettypeace certainly can’t imagine what it might be. Still, she is determined to find the perfect bride for her clueless, yet ruthlessly charming employer.

But when an anonymous note threatens to reveal truths best hidden, Kingsland has no choice but to confront the danger with Penelope at his side. Beguiled by the strong-willed, courageous beauty, he realizes he’s willing to risk everything, including his heart, to keep her safe within his arms. Could it be the duchess he’s hunting for has been in front of him all along?

Great story...well worth waiting for

Lorraine Heath out-did herself with this book. The story was well-written and creative and the characters were well-developed. The story was all about the Duke and Penelope but the supporting characters were interesting in their own right. Well-done, Lorraine Heath and Kate Reading.

Meh

Narrator Was awesome as usual. The story wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t engaging to the point that it kept my attention. It was very much a So-so plot. But it wasn’t done badly it just may be needed more conflict.

I enjoyed the book!

Lorraine health is just an amazing writer! 😭 The story kept me on my toes. Hugh and Penelope were a beautiful pair. When the secrets were revealed, I screamed. When I tell you, I was shook! 😂😂😂. Let’s not forget Kate reading. She’s just so good! She is one of my favorite narrators ever!

OMG I LOVED IT

I adore Lorraine Heath and this will probably end up in my favorites list! Kate Reading is simply a phenomenal narrator. I loved both Kingsland and Pettypeace. Two terrific characters. Nice tie in with Griff and Marcus, along with a few Trewloves tossed in for good measure. I can't wait for Marcus' story. If you loved the Sins for all Seasons series, you will love this one too. I can't recommend enough! Go, purchase, read and enjoy!!!

Delightfully rendered story of the power of love

The development of characters in an intertwining story including suspense, mystery, and love is very commendable…. The interplay and dialogue between the Duke and his “Secretary” is enticing as one understands the outcome that will eventually come to fruition

Multitasker

This story is the best by Darin the series. The reveal of the secrets of both main characters made it good👌🏾.

Perfect epilogue!

Excellent book! Good tension, lacks some steam but love the final ending where the past doesn't dictate future happiness. One peeve I have is the employer/employee relationship and especially when h works many years for H and he is just now noticing his attraction....really 8 years?? The epilogue was perfection!!! So I give it 4.25 for wrapping up the story nicely.

brilliant

My heart broke and then it was put back together.
this story is in equal parts sad and broken as it is sweet and endearing. the twist in it, the moment everything was revealed... you just have to read it it see what I mean...

Lorraine Heath is a genius of romance and Kate reading brings her stories to life. as a mum who has little time to sit and read. being able to listen and be brought into these stories is a beautiful escapism.

Loved this series

A great story of how a young woman became more. How she stole the Duke’s heart though he did try to (slightly) resist. Great performance that brought the story alive. 5 stars.
