Publisher's Summary

Sparks fly in the finale of the Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James Place series, as the last wicked rogue meets his match.

When Rosalind Sharpe gains the attention of the deliciously wicked duke of Avendale, she's torn between her distracting attraction to the notorious rogue and the knowledge that he - rich as Croesus - is the perfect target for a deception that will put her swindling days behind her.

However, Avendale is no fool. After he discovers the tantalizing lady packing up to leave London with his coins in tow, he confronts her with a scandalous proposition: She can have all the money she requires - for a week in his bed.

Desperate for the funds, Rose agrees but on one condition: He must never question her motives. Avendale quickly sees beneath her mask and discovers she is more than passion and pleasure - she is everything he has ever desired. But claiming her requires he unveil her secrets and lose her forever. Unless he can put his own dark past aside and risk everything for a chance at love.

Swoon-WORTHY!

First thought when finished: The mystery in The Duke and the Lady in Red by Lorraine Heath was compelling and the damn end made me cry.

Quick Thoughts: This was one of those stories that I would only trust in a few authors hands. The leading lady was not typical, especially for a historical. In the wrong hands she would have been down right unlikable or at least not a woman you would root for an HEA. Instead you not only love Rosalind but end up wanting to make sure that Avendale is worthy of HER! Avendale is swoon-worthy so don't get me wrong. He is every thing I want in a Historical Leading Man (yes I have different expectations depending on the type of leading man and period). In the end though it was his connection with Rosalind that makes him super worthy. Don't you love with the love story makes you go SWOOOOOOOOOOON? The mystery of why Rosalind is the way she is was the most compelling part of this story for me. It is worth reading and having that "oh my" moment without spoiling. It was compelling and felt authentic to the time.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Helen Lloyd, James Adams / Length: 12 hrs and 4 mins

Helen and James are a perfect example of how two narrators can work for an audiobook. They were both outstanding and balanced each other well. The pacing was steady, equal emotional output, and their voices fit these characters. I highly recommend this on audio!

So much sadness but also love, redemption & forgiveness

The story started interesting but then became amazing in the last 1/4 of the book. Rose showed great kindness and generosity to the ones she loved and this encouraged the Duke to be able to in turn open up and provide the same. He even reconnected with his estranged family. I TRULY enjoyed the book although a small part also profoundly saddened me. Great story. The only thing that would have made the overall a 5 star would have been to cut back on some repetitive main character ramblings.

Awesome.

This is one of the best stories I have heard/read in a long time. I cried and I laughed. It was had a great message about those with disability.

spoiler....
Whereas the heroine's brother is suffering from Neurofibromatosis, the same disease as the elephant man. It was just great.

A Feast for My Ears

What made the experience of listening to The Duke and the Lady in Red the most enjoyable?

The story was great but the narrator's made the story telling even better. This was no light weight regency love story. I think it's post regency pre Victorian. I couldn't stop listening. I have these really great water proof blue tooth buds so the only time I wasn't listening I was either sleeping or doing something else I found annoying because it interfered with my listening

What did you like best about this story?

This story dealt with a very mature subject. It's not a hearts and flowers story.. It's serious drama.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Rose and the Duke first met

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. When her brother died. I had to break out the tissue to dry my eyes and to blow nose

The Duke & his secretive Lady in red

I absolutely loved this Romance. Now it took some getting use to the narration but once you allowed yourself to get involved into the story,it starts off with treachery & seduction. Two people out for their "own"gains, alot of smoldering, romantic scenes, lies & deceit start off the story only to end up with a complete change of heart, some growing up for the Duke who finds himself finding love, selflessness in a woman who is reported to be deceptive but who turns out being a Lady Robin Hood.An absolutely heart warming wonderful story.I loved it. It literally brought quite a few tears to me eyes.I highly recommend this story,it was written well & also narrated well once you get use to the gravely,English accent.I would absolutely read again in the future.Wonderful:)

I'm not one to cry

There is no way I would cry over romance novels. Somehow, it moved me to the point of crying while driving. This book was well written and exquisitely read.

More than a love story

In the beginning of this book, I was gonna call it quits and not listen to the rest. However, once the inevitable secrets started to unravel, the book picked up and more than a love story was told. I loved it and shed a tear at one point.

So Touching

This was the best of the series to me. I enjoyed it immensely. I cried for Harry but he was the hero of the story for me. This author is so amazing. She has touched my heart with each of her stories. BRAVO 👏

top notch

I have just finished a second listen of this book. The narration was excellent, with seamless interchanges between male and female voices, each character distinct.
the story goes much deeper than most romances. Harry's character and afflictions were finely crafted, and his relationship with H and h well honed. H and h both grow in the story.
Well done all.

One of the best books I have listened to.

Fab. story-line and good narration, as often the latter is not quite up to scratch. Could not stop listening to this very well written tale.

Fantastic!!

One of the best books I have ever listened to in the genre!! The h and h were extremely well matched and very likeable. The secondary characters were fab too. Rose has had a very difficult and hard life but kept her little band of family together by whatever means! Harry her brother was the most lovely character and I couldn't help but fall in love a little with him even though he was not your handsome character normally found in this type of book. Good sex scenes without being soft Porn!. Rose had a strong character which was super and Avondale an arrogance but well deserved! I will listen to this book time and time again and will be in my top 10! It made me laugh and it made me cry even though I knew what the outcome was going to be!
Narration was very good - perhaps not brilliant but not off putting at all as many can be!
I spent a Credit on this book but would have happily bought it with cash!
This book won't disappoint - cannot recommend highly enough!!!
