Publisher's Summary
Mankind has been under attack for 50 years by the awesome power of bosses and monsters who are the denizens of dungeons.
Monsters started these attacks when a mystical beast named Raekast appeared and threatened the world, eradicating human life from several continents. Raekast threatened all human life until a mysterious ceremony called "Rebirth" unlocked the hidden potential of humans strong enough to repel and defeat her. Raekast’s final, desperate act caused dungeons to spawn across the globe. The greatest of these dungeons is known as Titan. Dungeons are a threat to humanity and nature alike. Powerful reborn humans known as "Slayers" enter their dangerous depths to kill the monsters and bosses that live within and retrieve treasure, items and more.
Tad Harrington, a video-game-loving 16-year-old high school student, was bullied relentlessly throughout his life. Tad’s Rebirth date has come. His last hope is to be reborn a slayer strong enough to enter the toughest dungeons where a life of power and luxury could await him.
When things don’t go according to plan, Tad finds out he has a special Rebirth, one that can level up and grow stronger by defeating monsters. Starting from level one, how high can Tad climb? Can he overcome the challenges and become the ultimate dungeon slayer?

Complete idiot MC
The MC is an insult to anyone with a brain cell and especially to anyone who ahs played an mmo or video game. He makes pointless, idiotic decisions that are solely backed by plot armor. Need magic damage? Boost con while your str is 1 and all you have is magic, it'll work out. Ignore a countdown cause of idiotic and endless inner dialogue? We'll make it pointless. He takes idiotic and I don't mean risky, just stupid risks that are long, drawn out but pay off for zero reasons. The writer is insanely ignorant of any game mechanics outside of some he might have heard in other litrpgs. He will constantly be in life or death situations with no gear and a item/skill/spell window he just doesn't look at. It's insulting how little the author put into justifying the level of stupid and amount of almost death plot armor. He can't go two seconds without almost dying, but ignores anything useful. Don't put to much time into this, I was especially annoyed at how many people rated this book well, it's mostly bad filler around a second rate story. I will say that I stopped 14 grueling chapters in; I suggest you not waste that much time.

narrator can't save this
this is a prime example of a interesting story absolutely ruined by a trash main character. the main character is such a whiny self absorbed loser that I hoped he would die just to end every single one of his problems from his past are his own fault and instead of working on them or any kind of self improvement he just mopes around blaming the world for not being fair

Very well done!!!
The introduction to the world, and the magic system was masterfully done.
Also, I love that the author didn't bother try to explain how some VR world became real all of a sudden. Instead we have a real world that is new to magic, and a MC who happens to have game mechanics govern his progression. I love that the MC is honestly afraid for his life, and that there real consequences for his decisions.
Also, MC is a HUGE success here. There is great character development and his thought processes are "reasonable." The author never had MC make ridiculous decisions just to move the story forward, and any questionable decisions were a true reflection of MC's inexperience and immaturity. Unfortunately, IMO retarded MC's r surprisingly common in the genre, so "reasonable" is actually better than what you get in most books. I personally never got overly frustrated with him.
Overall, I have to say I'm excited about this series. Probably going to hit up Kindle for Book 2, it's that good. I can't wait 6+ months for the next audio recording.

Okay so i had to keep reminding myself that the mc is just 16 but other than that i really liked the way the stats affected him but i don't know how to feel about the ending especially of him thinking that leadership is super easy and everyone can do it when he DOESN'T HAVE ANY SOCIAL SKILLS AT ALL! (maybe if he puts 4 levels worth of stats of charisma) yeah that was really annoying

A surprisingly enjoyable experience!
I bought this book because I was bored. I didn't enter with high expectations, but from start to finish (minus very minor writing issues Ill speak aboot later) it was of excellent quality! The author does one of the best jobs I've seen when making the reader feel the deep emotions of the character.
The narrator was also surprisingly good. he has minor issues, but no one is perfect. and everything i had any issue with he makes up for tenfold with expressive narration. reminded me of some of my favorite narrators!
So here is the part where I had a small issue with his writing. minor spoilers incoming. nothing major. So at a certain point in the book there is a small fustercluck of the word "roach". and by small I mean i heard the word 45 times in 3 minutes. Its a simple issue to fix, just add pronouns or descriptions like "the pincered insect". Its just that hearing that same word over and over completely disconnected me from everything the author attempted to portray.
This only happens once and is the only negative thing I can think of about the whole book, so dont you DARE hesitate to get this if you like LITrpgs.

Too Much Narrative Repetition
The most surprising thing I learned when reading this book is that you can become very tired of every fight being epic. Not every fight should be epic. There shouldn't be multiple moments in the same fight when the reader is lead to believe that the hero is about to be defeated only to be saved at the last instant, and this definitely shouldn't happen almost every fight. This wrecks the story's pacing because battles go on and on forever and these moments lose their tension because the same narrative tricks are being employed too frequently. In addition to all this, the character has a lot of abilities and often fails to utilize all of them and often this feels like the character is doing so just to build narrative tension.
As a result, this LitRPG is not one that I can recommend. Having said that, I am quite pleased with Austin Rising's performance. This is the first time I've heard this narrator and he does an excellent job.

What a bad MC
This is not a well writen book. if you remove the stats line repetition you remove 1/5th of the book. then add a odd char descriptions that for all i can tell are to add word count.
And please stop saying "Blond Girl"
The MC is one of the most unlikable and over powered i have yet read, the attempt at selfreflection is just insulting.
Con makes you fat ?!?!? Dex gives you eyesight ?!?! there is so much that just makes no sence. you need logic in the narrative and there is none here.

Unlikable MC, stolen story, poor writing
The main character is an obnoxious drip who it is impossible to sympathy for. Where most progression/litrpg fantasy try to have underdog mc’s you can relate to and wish to see succeed, throughout the story I was continually rooting on the monsters to kill him and put both of us out of our misery.
The story itself is essentially plagiarised from Solo Levelling by Chugong. While a few pieces of set dressing differ, this story is dangerously dancing above the fine line between fan fiction and copyright infringement.
The writing quality is poor. The dialogue is almost non existent and pretty much entirely awful. The world does not have a consistent interior logic that stands up to simple introspective interrogation.
Ultimately this book is a fail made only vaguely pleasurable due to its passing resemblance and poor imitation of better works in the sub genre.

Doesn't quite hit the mark
it's got a lot of potential, that is unfortunately squandered. If the MC had been just a little less whatever he is, a little more intelligent, and the story a bit...more, this book could honestly have been outstanding. Maybe those flaws are fixed in the next book but as it stands, there a better progression fantasy books available. it's a passing grade, but not quite a distinction.

Really good
I don't usually like fantasy books set in the modern day but this book series is fantastic.

A brilliant concept perfectly executed.
Having played RPG's on paper and PC for most of my life this book was great fun for me. Brought into the really world in a clever way! There was nothing about this book I did not enjoy.

Too many stat repeats
The book was overall good, it did, however, repeat the main character’s stats more than needed.
