After more than 700 years, he was expecting a peaceful and lonely end to his long life. That, however, was not meant to be. A single choice changed his fate, and his soul was forced to live again as a dungeon. Reborn but shackled to the heart of a mountain. This old soul has lost everything - and more. In a world of gods and demons, there is no room for a weak newborn dungeon. The path may be long and dangerous, but with a soul hardier than stone and a will stronger than iron, will he be able to forge his own destiny?

Story
Ryan doesn’t remember much about his life before becoming dungeon core. Only that he had a bit of a disagreement with the church - something to do with a beheading? Now reborn, Ryan begins to arm his darkness dungeon with devious traps, bestial zombies, and ill-named skeletal creations, without doing anything too evil. Well, mostly. Some adventurers just deserve a stalactite to the head. But Ryan quickly learns being a darkness dungeon isn’t all loot and bone puns.

Milton Frederick never had the chance to live out his life as a professional gamer on Earth, mainly because he was abducted by aliens. Unfortunately, he wasn’t returned home after the typical probing associated with such things to tell an unbelievable story to his friends. Instead, he was summarily killed and his consciousness was inserted into a Station Core, a giant, metal, egg-shaped object that could use technology to create traps, Combat Units, and other defenses to protect not just himself, but those he cared about.

Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with change is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Story
Last I remember I was saving my high school crush from the path of an oncoming truck. Now I'm a skin-and-bones weakling wearing nothing but my hospital gown. Oh yeah, the world is also full of monsters, and I'm the only human left. It turns out a godlike System evacuated humanity but decided to leave the vegetable in the bed. I could crawl into a corner and wait to get eaten by a kobold, but after years of being asleep, I have a new appreciation for feeling alive. I'll have to find the tenacity to survive, the courage to fight, and the strength to face some dark truths about myself.

Story
The gods should have agreed to fight the giants and let Ragnarök run its course and bring about the end of time. For a new world could only rise from the ashes of the old. But because the gods prophesied to die refused to take part, Yggdrasil - the World Tree - was forced to act before the stalemate led to the annihilation of the nine worlds and its very existence. And so I was born. One of the many seeds dispersed by the mighty World Tree, I was teleported through different planes and universes to find a new home where to settle.

Story
After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then, he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway. He had always failed in what he did. The only thing that had never failed him was his sharp mind and philosophy. He would cultivate...no matter what it cost him.

Dungeons are a lot like sea turtles. They’re born in clutches of dozens, if not hundreds. A 100 may be born at one time, buried in still-burning cities, in forests where the canopy hides the sky, or in ocean trenches at the bottom of the sea. But, only one in a clutch ever makes it to the surface. Everyone knows about dungeons - monstrous factories that emerge out of the earth, full of riches and Arcana and power - and monsters.

Just a smidge better than boring. A tiny smidge.
Well a lot of what was annoying about previous books has been way toned down. Though in some places what replaced it was worse. The pixie especially is less unaligned now and more sadistic treating the dungeon deaths like snuff porn, I mean a good writer could be using these changes as part of a greater character arc to develop Clair's character and better foil Doc. But eh heh, well.that would require a GOOD writer.
The failed attempt at cutely playing house is in some ways still all here. But Everybody Loves Raymond style sitcom humor has been thrown in. And that humor like all the humor in the book is so cliche and not so much badly done as overdone without a trace of self swareness like Shatner was writing his jokes. That its mildly amusing. But just mildly.
There was also a nice dungeon crawl, that suffered from lacking much input from the peanut Gallery that is the dungeon. The comments from the dungeon during the dungeon crawls is half of the entertainment from these books.
And then there were more female characters and a male child character introduced proving that the writer can concieve of only two levels of maturity. Adult. And 5 years old. Nothing in between.
Still all of that could be overlooked because it wasnt boring at least, it was usually at least mildly interesting, enough to keep me listening. The writer had shown a tendency to put extra effort into his climaxes so I was hoping a good book climax would bump this book up to 4 stars.
He dissapointed. The Climax was out of left field. Though at one point it seemed we might at least get some interesting character development for the dungeon. But it was just an allusion and the Dungeon got otherwise completely left out of the climax.
So 3 stars overall. An extra half star lost because its too short. Still rounds to 3.
