Publisher's Summary

Saving the family fortune may cost Phillip his life...or his heart.

The duke of Ashby is cunning and vicious. He cares only for wealth and advancement. As one of the wealthiest men in society, he desires more, which includes his longtime friend and enemy's lands and titles. In a gamble, both dukes betroth their oldest children. The first child to end the engagement forfeits the wealth and lands of the father to the other duke.

Phillip, the earl of Arundel, begrudgingly agrees to marry Lady Olivia, so his father won't lose the bet and leave their family in poverty. His desires change when he is nearly killed and wakes with amnesia in a strange home. After falling in love with Miss Emma Parker, he finds marrying a woman as a result of his father's greed distasteful and he desires to marry for love.

Regency Romeo and Juliet with romance, tragic love, mystery, suspense!

From the beginning, this book captured my attention. It’s a regency twist on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This isn’t the typical regency romance. Like Shakespeare, there is violence, abuse, and a definite shrew. There were so many twists and turns that it definitely kept me listening. I wondered if the story would ever have a HEA and how it would get there.

Phillip is the heir to a dukedom but when his conniving father makes a bet with a man he’s feuded with for years, he’s stuck with an arranged marriage to a shrewish woman. Whoever breaks the marriage contract will forfeit all their father’s lands and wealth to the other. Phillip’s father is extremely abusive and gives him no out. On top of this, someone is trying to kill Phillip.

After being left for dead, he wakes up in the home of Emma Parker with amnesia. When he finally figures out who he is, he has fallen in love with the sweet beauty. He has to figure out how he can marry the woman he loves without losing his family’s fortune and before someone kills him.

I loved Phillip and Emma. I especially felt sorry for Phillip. Both his father and fiancé were extremely abusive. His father literally beats him and uses violence and anger to bend his children to his will. Olivia, the fiancé, is a spoiled brat who is also abusive. She is manipulative, and violent when she doesn’t get her way. She literally throws objects like plates and teapots, once injuring Phillip. The violence was a bit over the top for me, but it fit in line with the characters and the twists and turns of the story.

The audible version of this book was so good! The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing each character to life. Her emotions were spot on and I enjoyed her reading style and voice. It was easy to listen too.

I’ll definitely read more by this author.
Content warning: clean romance, but some violence and abuse. Readers sensitive to parental physical abuse should beware.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from Cedar Fort for my honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive review.

Not your average regency! Mystery, attempted murder, bickering, and more!

The Earl of Arundel

This was a unique read, I haven’t read many with a proposal to an unlikeable person, a house party, and a gunshot wound all within the first chapter. Then the scene changes and we have Shakespeare, amnesia, and an insta-love (one sided) within the following chapters.

This one was read very well by the narrator and a very fast paced story. There were several twists and turns, such a an actual food fight, proposals and broken proposals, TWINS, an arrest, and TWO love stories. Oh, and a marriage contract, but it causes more problems than solutions.

I don’t recall ever reading a book with so much bickering, and yet, I thought it was hilarious! That sounds wrong, doesn’t it? 😆

Who is going to end up with who???
