What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Publisher's Summary
Allen Carr's Easyway is the most effective stop-smoking method of all time and it has now been successfully applied to a wide range of other issues. Here the method focuses on one of the fastest-growing problems of modern times for women: drinking.
Alcohol blights women's lives often in a distinctly different way to men's: women tend to stay at home drinking alcohol; women often feel particular shame over drinking too much; drinking around children can be a particular burden. In summary there are a lot of added pressures on women to stop drinking, and often they feel this is an impossible task.
Luckily, Allen Carr's Easyway makes it easy to stop drinking. It's the tried-and-tested cessation method that really works. With startling insight into why women drink and clear, simple, step-by-step instructions, Allen Carr shows you the way to escape from the alcohol trap in the time it takes to listen to this audiobook.

I was done drinking before the end of this book.
I drank for most of 32 years. I had finally stopped drinking for three months before the pandemic hit. After two months in and a renewed habit of nightly drinking, I was missing my good health habits, glowing skin, and energy to get through the day. On a fluke I came across a Joe Rogan podcast on YouTube. His guest recommended this book. I was skeptical through most of the first quarter but kept at it. I’m so glad I did. I gave myself the gift of sobriety for Mother’s Day.

This book delivered for me
I always knew AA wouldn't work for me. So, when I knew I was in serious trouble with alcohol, l did some research and became convinced AA was a bad bet for anyone. I stumbled into Allen Carr rather by accident in Stephen Guise's Mini Habits. I got the ebook, then when nearing the final steps got the audible book as well. I doubled back twice to re-read before entering the last steps, then finished with the audio. Following my ritual last drink, l immediately had no more desire for alcohol. Until then I was afraid of failing to quit, but no more.

Not a fan
This book claims to tell you the easy way to quit drinking.....classic too easy to be true situation. I listened for hours patiently waiting for the 'steps' and 'methods' they promised would change my life. There aren't any. Just think of alcohol as poison they say. And remember that people are attracted to shyness, and you don't need to be the life of the party, so voila! Just quit drinking! Waste of time. Learned nothing.

Somewhat condescending motivational speech
It’s great whenever someone try’s to help you better yourself do I have it two stars for that. But.. this doesn’t have useful tools. It’s basically using stereotypical ideas of what women think to motivate you to stop drinking. Like you’ll look a lot better, age less, feel better etc. all true but come on.. we know all that. Clearly an outdated male perspective of how women think. Then they have a female read it, so we will identify with her. But it’s a male author, and that’s very obvious. If you want some motivation it’s fine. But don’t expect an easy breakthrough. It’s a little condescending if you’re an intelligent female.

Just listen and absorb....
It really works... Haven't had a drink in 32 days... don't want one... can think about alcohol without wanting a drink. I can be around alcohol and not want to drink. The desire is gone. I just want to be me in a clear head and a healthy body. Not sure why nothing else seemed to work, but listening to this book made me see things differently. The only thing I can say is just listen and absorb what you hear. Stop the insanity of drinking for no reason-- things don't get better when you do drink, do they? If they do, do what you must... but if they don't, it's time to make a change.

I am now a non drinker. After 15 years.
I previously listened to Easy Way the original and quit for around 4 months after being a 4-5 days a week drinker for 15 years. But some 'friend talked my into having a glass of wine at her house and I caved. Back to old habbits, lost friends, money etc etc over the past year so bought the womens version determined to stop again. 1 week in and I'm not fussed about drinking at all. Not been out yet as Im going to listen a few more times to reall get it into my head. Brilliant life changing book. Must read more than once though or you may forget and slip as I did the first time around.

Everything has changed!
I downloaded the audio book and listened to the full 6 hours in one day. The kids were at school and I did the housework with my headphones on, I would never have had the time to read the book. I'm not sure how the process has worked but it has and I couldn't be happier! I've gone from using willpower to stop drinking in the past to now having no desire for it at all, incredible! It is very very repetitive and at some points I nearly turned off but I'm so glad I followed through and persevered to the end. If you know you want to stop drinking but need a bit of help to figure out how then this may help you too.

Amazed!!
I'm into my second week of not drinking, this is nothing new for me as I have spouts of not drinking for days or weeks but always give in to cravings, my last attempt was November 18 ...3 weeks sober then returned to drinking. after a very stressful period in my life and up to my last drink I was drinking 1 70cl bottle of vodka a day and 4 beers starting in the morning to cure the fuzzy head. since starting the book I've not only stopped but I do not crave or want a drink, I've had a weekend away and 1 social event and not a drop, these things were the perfect excuse and a way to hide the amount of drink i drank. I would say its early days but this doesn't feel like any other time I have quit I know with certainty I do not want to drink anymore, its serves no purpose in my life and feel better than I have done in years.
Thank you Allen Carr

Simply amazing
Don't get me wrong, this is not a good read/listen (I've listened to a fiction book told by this narrator before and that really troubled me as it sounded like a story at times), but it is obviously not meant to be. The job is to stop you from drinking and it really works. I was totally skeptical but I now have zero desire to drink now. I waited before I reviewed this to make sure that feeling lasts and it does. Highly recommend.

Amazing
Omg! I have up drinking around the second chapter. Mainly as it was a Sunday. After 3 days I've lost 3lbs and feel so much better. I'm going to keep listening to it as I walk the dog etc and I really feel like a new chapter. The best thing was. My 12 year old said to me last night "I like you when your like this, you're not drunk". I felt ashamed and embarrassed that as a 54 year old I had drank almost every day for 40 years. It had to stop I was on 2.5 bottles of good quality wine which was costing £500 per month.

It worked!
I quit smoking 19 years ago after reading one of Allen Carr's books and this year I wanted to stop drinking alcohol, so I thought I'd try another one of his books. I opted for the audio book as I wanted to listen while driving long distances each week and it was so effective. The reader's voice and accent is pleasant and I was excited to continue listening each day. Occasionally I had to go back to relisten to a chapter because I felt doubts creep into my mind. Finally at the end, I took my last drink. That was almost 4 weeks ago and it's less than a week before Christmas and I've been better than ok at social events. I honestly feel like I will never touch alcohol again. It feels amazing! There is a lot of repetition throughout the book but that's part of the process of reprogramming your mind. It's an incredible journey! Thank you

Repeative info means you stop
Around 2005 I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. When I picked up the book I felt like crap due to smoking but I was addicted and didn't want to give up. I read the book and stopped halfway through the book as I still wasn't 100% sure I wanted to give up. I read the book again and I did the ceremony of my last cigarette and I got rid of all the tobacco and ashtrays etc. I remember it being a bit hard when taking a break at work - work friends smoked and I didn't. Three weeks later, just as the book said, I thought to myself 'I am free from smoking.' And I have never had a cigarette since or wanted one. So here I am in a similar situation. I feel like crap due to the 2/3 bottle of wine I drink 4 or 5 times a week. When I go to the Doctor's I lie when they ask how many glasses a week I drink. I don't think I have a massive problem with alcohol but it is not serving me. Over the last 10 years, I have steadily put on weight which I cannot budge and is ever increasing. I asked myself what in my life is not serving me and decided it was alcohol. Again with this version, I read it twice. I noticed my consumption dropped considerably - the book says to drink throughout until you have your last drink. There is a whole lot of related information on how it makes you feel etc which helps you to think and understand how crap alcohol is actually making you feel. I read the book twice and last night I happily had my 'last glass of wine.' In doing that I remembered my first bottle of wine at the age of 15 after a friend had dumped me. And that sums up my relationship with alcohol - a crutch. Something to do to obliterate pain. Be gone alcohol. Thank you Allen Carr, again.

If you have a drink problem you need to read this
I have struggled with alcohol for the last 10 years and this book has helped me to understand why. I am so grateful for this book showing me how to stop drinking with ease. If you drink more than you want to, read this book but you must keep an open mind and accept the truth about alcohol.

great book read by professor umbridge
I loved the content but really struggled to push through as I found the reader sounded quite condescending. I had to really focus on the content and not the delivery. For some reason my brain pictured her as Professor Umbridge from the Harry Potter series 🤷🏼♀️

easy read with good info
The secret is:
stop thinking alcohol is something you will miss.
it is poison.
Think of all the positive things about stopping drinking.
it is not about will power
changing your mindset and your relationship with alcohol.
its not magic.

Different to original
I enjoyed the original version of this book a lot better. It’s changed in its deliverance and some points that really hit home to me in the original wasn’t in this version.
All in all. Good book
