Not so good

Completely predictable, no surprises. It was ok on daily deal, but I wouldn't waste a credit.

Thoroughly unoriginal

Imagine the screenplays for Fallen, The Monuments Men and Raiders of the Lost Ark were mashed up and jotted down. Sure, it's well written and the tempo is snappy but it's a real disappointment in terms of originality and inventiveness. A high point, though, is the excellent narration.

It is a Sci-Fi Thriller after all.

What made the experience of listening to The Einstein Prophecy the most enjoyable?

I like the premise of the story and how it plays out. The narrator is was very talented and made many of the characters come to life.

What other book might you compare The Einstein Prophecy to and why?

The Indiana Jones movies.....if there are books of Dr. Jones, I have never read them.

What about Christopher Lane’s performance did you like?

It was very well done.

This book does have a number of historical errors but the listener should remember that this is a science fiction style story. There are things that made me stop and think for a second but did not bother me too much. I like good stories and this is a good one. I recommend this one.

Brilliant Storyline

Loved it! Indiana Jones meets Angels & Demons meets The Exorcist. Set during the last years of WWll & combining real life characters & events with well developed fictional characters. It is the age old battle of good vs evil and a cautionary reminder that no matter how arrogant human kind becomes, there are powers beyond our control. And which one we choose can be the difference between our salvation or downfall; or on a larger scale, universal annihilation.

Einstein is a secondary character in this book, an old and completely mortal college professor. The way he is portrayed is charming and did not disappoint me by conflicting with my image of him. The accents in this book add a lot of character to it.
The legend of St. Anthony of Egypt (who wrestled demons) provides the history for what unravels in this supernatural story. Demons disturb me more than zombies or ghosts, and I might have found this story more upsetting than exciting, but for the elaborate use of classic scary stuff: bats, grinning gargoyles, scorpions.
The main male character is a nice enough guy, professor of art history, being forced by the government to study a intriguingly old, but also creepy sarcophagus.
The main female is an ambitious scholar who works beside her ailing father. She's very beautiful, blah, blah. There's two sex scenes, but not too explicit. The romance of the two main characters seems to have been put there out of habit or something, I didn't care about it. But, there's not too much carrying on about it, so it didn't affect my overall opinion or the book.

An exciting read

This book must be read during the day with someone else nearby! The author has done an excellent job of releasing the devil long buried in an Egyptian tomb and sharing the horror with a group of professors and students of art history, as well as Albert Einstein.

Really, Professor?

Who knew Professor Einstein could be this much fun? He along with with some other historical figures shine, and their fictional antics carry the rather insipid fictional leads in this sort-of horror story.

Opening shortly after D-Day in 1944 and ending on VJ day a little over a year later, it's the tale of an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus looted by the Nazis, in which Hitler has displayed a special interest. It's recovered along with other art treasures by a young officer assigned to the Cultural Recovery Commission (the "Monument Men" of the movie). The mission winds up with our hero Lucas wounded, and the main story starts a few months later, after his recovery and return to his alma mater, Princeton, this time as an assistant professor.

Three things drive the story: (1) Lucas's boarding house happens to be across the street from Albert Einstein's Princeton home; (2) the sarcophagus, which the Army has classified top secret, winds up at Princeton and in Lucas's charge; and (3) a beautiful Anglo-Egyptian woman with an Oxford PhD shows up. Then the horror story kicks in.

At one point an FBI agent says to Lucas "For a Princeton professor, you're pretty slow." This sums up the story's flaw. Both Lucas and the beautiful Egyptologist behave so stupidly in the face of what is obviously (even to them) supernatural danger that I'm forced to believe Masiello, a good writer, was just trying to drag the story out.

But the scenes with Einstein more than make up for any story lapses. I also enjoyed the "backstory" of St. Anthony of Egypt, another historical figure (though long deceased). The ending came together well, and all in it's an entertaining light read if you like this kind of adventure/horror mix.

Very good narration by Christopher Lane adds to the enjoyment.

Very good but you sort of want more...

Would you consider the audio edition of The Einstein Prophecy to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version, and as such cannot comment.

Would you be willing to try another book from Robert Masello? Why or why not?

Definitely yes. Very creative, well developed characters and good foreshadowing versus plot twists. The conclusion sort of ends abruptly, but aside from that, very impressive.

What does Christopher Lane bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

CL is one of my personal favourite performers on Audible, and this offering is no exception. Good character delineation, accents and pacing. He is a pro!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I was in prison perhaps. Otherwise, simple logistics are against it.

This book is somewhat sprawling, and could use a good editor. That said, Lane brings an interesting story to life, and on balance, I recommend this thriller.

Fun bit of historical fiction...or is it???

I liked the story and performance was top-notch. The narrator does a great job with voices so you know who is speaking at all times. I enjoyed the story and the historical references seem to fit. Would give it 4.5 out of 5.

Easy Listening

This was not for me. It is well written, but not enough bells and whistles for a horror, Sci-Fi, and/or Zombie fan like me. It is very slow moving for the likes of me. I need fast moving, even if badly written.
