The fourteen short stories in To Cut a Long Story Short show Jeffrey Archer’s great skills with a wide variety of character, of subject and of setting, but all with that trademark twist in the tale. Every reader will have their own favourites: the choices run from love at first sight across the train tracks to the cleverest of confidence tricks, from the quirks of the legal profession - and those who are able to manipulate both sides of the Bar - to the creative financial talents of a member of Her Majesty’s diplomatic service - but for a good cause.

John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

Publisher's Summary
Connor Fitzgerald is the CIA’s most deadly assassin. On the brink of his retirement, he is sent to Russia for one last hit. Except this isn’t just another job. After a fall out between the CIA and the White House over the assassination of a prominent Colombian politician, his boss is now using the Russian Mafia to cover her tracks.
Fitzgerald is not going to St Petersburg to kill, he’s going to die.
A page-turning, political thriller about espionage and betrayal by the acclaimed British writer, Jeffrey Archer.
The Eleventh Commandment is narrated by Michael Brandon, most famous for playing James Dempsey in the 1980’s television crime drama, Dempsey and Makepeace. His extensive theatre career spans Broadway and the West End, where he played Jerry Springer in Jerry Springer: the Opera for the National Theatre.
Jeffrey Archer is a bestselling British author and former politician. He was educated at Oxford and went on to become a Member of Parliament, the deputy chair of the Conservative Party as well as sitting in the House of Lords. His political career ended in scandal and he turned to writing, where he has been published in over 250 countries.
He is perhaps most famous for the Clifton Chronicles and his blockbuster Kane and Abel which was number one on the New York Time’s Bestseller list and inspired a popular miniseries starring Peter Strauss and Sam Neill.
After he was imprisoned for perjury in 2001, he wrote his highly acclaimed non-fiction series, Prison Diaries - Hell, Purgatory and Heaven - which were inspired by his experiences and loosely structured around Dante’s Inferno.

Rarely Ever Return a Book
So disappointed because Jeffrey Archer is one of my favorite writers. I suffered through the narration for about an hour or so, and then just couldn't take it anymore. Regardless of the character, the narrators voice changed hardly at all. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. I gave the story a 4 star rating because it was good as far as I was able to get.

NOT ONE OF HIS BEST
Being a fan of the author I had high hopes but they were soon dashed as I was not impressed by the narrator just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you’re any good.
The beginning was difficult to follow and I listened to another book and went back to this and managed to finish it. My advice don’t bother.

Typical Archer
The story was exactly as I expected but, after reading a few longer books, was what I needed. I stuck it to the end but only just. The fault for this lies firmly with the lazy reading. Others might think differently but I felt that here was someone who didn’t think much of the text and just couldn’t be bothered making it enjoyable for the reader. I’ve taught many children to read and this performer could do with quite a few lessons no matter how famous he is! I’ll not purchase any books with this narrator in future. Time for a re-do,Audible.

So let’s start with the fact the audio appears to change half way through.
