Publisher's Summary

Berlin, 1944. Ariella Bannon is being hunted. Someone is determined to betray her as a Jew, but she has survived against incredible odds, and the end is in sight. She will be reunited with her precious children, no matter what it takes.

Meanwhile, Liesl and Erich have found a home in Ireland, away from the chaos of war-ravaged Europe. As the dark news of what has happened to the Jews filters through, they are torn - love for their mother and their home on one hand, and the profound sense of peace and belonging they have in Ballycreggan, on the other.

Like all the other children who escaped Nazi territory on the Kindertransport, they must wait to hear the fate of their loved ones. For their foster parents Elizabeth and Daniel, their dearest wish, that Ariella would survive the war, is also their deepest fear. Would her return mean the loss of the children they have come to think of as their own?

As the Third Reich crumbles under relentless Allied bombs, Ariella is careful, but Berlin is a very dangerous place to be, and somebody knows she survived. Can she take one last enormous risk to be reunited with Liesl and Erich, or will her betrayer see her finally captured?

The Emerald Horizon is the long-awaited sequel to the best seller The Star and the Shamrock.

Delightful listen

The story is well written and easy to become engrossed in. The characters feel like they were real people. The narrator’s accent truly added to the story.

I just can’t give Jean Grainger books less that 5 stars. Any book that can make me cry is some kind of book

I loved her two books about kinder transport and learned so much. She gives some of the best character development and this includes super well know authors. I never got bored and wished it would end just the opposite sad that it had to end. . She is my new favorite historical fiction author. Will read all now. I listened to 5 already Thanks so much Mrs Grainger

Beautifully written

A wonderful, heartwarming story which takes place during a horrific time in history. Fantastic narration. A beautiful mix of the narrator’s accents and the writer’s descriptions make this book come alive. After listening to the Star and the Shamrock, I had to get this book to find out what happened to the characters.

It was good!!

Overall it was a really good story. Only thing I can say is so many of the same facts were repeated many times. Also would say a character enter room to say something and then for the next 15 min. talk and described something else. Other than those little thoughts great story!! And narration well done.

Brilliant

Having listened to book 1 I couldn't wait to continue the story. I was not disappointed I really enjoyed it . The narrator is a genius, the variety of accents, genders and ages are all easily recognisable which make the story so easy to listen too.

Review of books 1 and 2 of this trilogy.

An immensely enjoyable story of endurance and family life during one of the worst times in history. The Northern Irish portrayal of the people of Ballycreagan was so accurate. I remember those times well. A beautiful story of the best in people set against the worst evil. I look forward to the third book.

Love this series

I am really enjoying your books…so hard to understand how people can be so cruel and it makes me feel how lucky I am.
The narration is especially easy to listen too.

Excellent story

This is a great 4 part series - the characters are so warm and real you feel like you really know them. A sometimes heartbreaking story told with such grace and insight and with such wholehearted characters that is it uplifting. Love love love
