During our chaotic times, discover five forgotten values that can spark internal growth and help us reconcile our Christian faith with the complexities of race, sexuality, and social justice. Most believers live in the state of "being a Christian" without ever being deeply formed by Christ. Our pace is too frenetic to be in union with God, and we don't know how to quiet our hearts and minds to be present. Our emotions are unhealthy and compartmentalized.

Powerful!!!
I'm not sure where to start. I am so glad I moved forward with purchasing this book dispite a few negative reviews. One review said that this book is only for ministry leaders, this is not true. I am a Christian and I work for the military, and hold a Graduate degree in Organizational Leadership. This book exposed so many parts of my life that needed to be transformed both personally and professionally. I want to recommend this book to my University for those of us that want to represent Christ in how we lead, even in secular jobs and positions. The end of the book Chapter 8 and beyond is the best. The author dives into keeping the Sabbath, this chapter is outstanding. As a "habitual over-worker" this touched me so deeply. I always feared not doing enough. Going to school, working multiple jobs, volunteering for the church, raising a child and my marriage were all so overwhelming. 3-4 hours of sleep is my normal, it will take some time to undo what I have done, but I'm ready. He goes into explaining Power and Influence, this was not touched at all in my Leadership studies. This shined a light into a whole new area of my life. The Author end explaining how to find God in loss, and his transition from his position of Senior Pastor. I have purchased many books on audiable and have never bothered to write a review..... this book was worth ever penny.

The book was good but could have been much better
The book does a good job explaining how a church leader can become more emotionally healthy, which I appreciate as a church leader. I like how it's divided up into two sections: the inner life and the outer life. I got a lot out of the information.
However, the book could have been much better for three reasons:
First, the author has no formal education in emotional health. Spending money on this book I expected to here from a professional. That was disappointing.
Second, the book is solely geared toward church leaders. As a church leader myself, I didn't mind that, but it makes the title of the book deceiving. If the book is for leaders becoming emotionally healthy, then it should cover all types of leaders in all types of organizations.
Third, the author has some clear biases that were painfully obvious. For example, he would create certain scenarios to prove his points, but in these scenarios he would always talk negatively of youth ministers or worship leaders. Or another example is the fact that the author clearly has a bias against growing and successful churches. Any time those types of churches were mentioned, the author would approach it negatively, critically, and skeptically.
