Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling author of The End of Alzheimer's lays out a specific plan to help everyone prevent and reverse cognitive decline or simply maximize brainpower.

In The End of Alzheimer's, Dale Bredesen laid out the science behind his revolutionary new program that is the first to both prevent and reverse symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Now he lays out the detailed program he uses with his own patients. Accessible and detailed, it can be tailored to anyone's needs and will enhance cognitive ability at any age.

What we call Alzheimer's disease is actually a protective response to a wide variety of insults to the brain: inflammation, insulin resistance, toxins, infections, and inadequate levels of nutrients, hormones, and growth factors. Bredesen starts by having us figure out which of these insults we need to address and continues by laying out a personalized lifestyle plan. Focusing on the Ketoflex 12/3 diet, which triggers ketosis and lets the brain restore itself with a minimum 12-hour fast, Dr. Bredesen drills down on restorative sleep, targeted supplementation, exercise, and brain training. He also examines the tricky question of toxic exposure and provides workarounds for many difficult problems. The takeaway is that we do not need to do the program perfectly but will see tremendous results if we can do it well enough.

With inspiring stories from patients who have reversed cognitive decline and are now thriving, this book shifts the treatment paradigm and offers a new and effective way to enhance cognition as well as unprecedented hope to sufferers of this now no longer deadly disease.

Great resource for those suffering or those caring for those suffering from Alzheimer’s or Dementia

This book is an amazing look at how best to deal with complex chronic disease. So much of our current approach is based on one treatment and one approach. It turns out humans are complex and many of the complex diseases and conditions we face require a multifaceted approach.

I hope people read this and follow the advice. As someone in the late 40s but noticing brain fog and general memory lapse I was terrified as to my future prospects. My grandmother spend 14 with Alzheimer’s and died a shell of her former self and and father has been able to reverse many of his symptoms based on a multifaceted approach (food, sleep, stress management, BHRT, and exercise). He’s almost 80 and doing extremely well.

This book is a great addition to tools we need to overcome this plague.

Useful for Preventing Alzheimer's

I have two copies of the APOE4 gene, so I'm interested in learning preventative strategies. Although there are elements in this book I don't agree with, particularly in the diet chapters regarding eliminating dairy, grains and red meat, there is a lot of information about supplements that can help prevent Alzheimer's which I didn't know about. I plan on taking some of these supplements after listening to this book. He also discusses some important blood tests to track in preventing Alzheimer's, so I plan on getting some of these tests done. All in all a pretty good listen, even though parts I didn't agree with and other parts were kind of dry to listen to.

Better Read Than Heard

I gave up after about 30 minutes because the information was so full of unfamiliar medical references and various drug and supplement information that I couldn’t follow what was being conveyed. If you’re already fairly well educated about Alzheimer’s disease you might get something out of it. I couldn’t.

Hope inspiring guidebook

Dr Bredesen provides a great update to his earlier book on the same topic. In this new volume, he shares clinical success stories along with specific guidance on how others can take the same steps to obtain the same positive results — avoiding and/or reversing the onset of Alzheimer’s. As someone who has been following the Paleo lifestyle myself for a few years already, I can validate the accuracy of what he describes. I hope that the wisdom shared in this book is spread across the world and mankind turns the corner on this epidemic of chronic inflammatory diseases.

What Society Needs to Hear

There are many medical and health professionals that have been explaining for years that the medical system in the US is broken. This book, while specifically addresses Alzheimer’s, addresses the broader picture of what a healthy America could look like if we as a society took a more holistic view of health. I will be recommending this book to all of my loved ones with the hope that they will take just some of its advice and in turn realize a truly longer and healthier health span.
Thank you Dr Bredesen, I don’t agree with 100% of everything in this book, but it is 100% the direction we need to go

Too much info for an audio book

If you are seriously planning to benefit from this book, buy it, don't just listen. The downloads don't compensate; you will need to refer to this book over and over. I would say it is painfully detailed at times.
