Story
Colonel Mitchell "Ares" Williams has never been one to accept failure. While the outcome on Liberty is a crushing setback to his and the Riggers' chances of salvaging the war, there's no time to waste on regret. After all, the mission wasn't a total loss, delivering an unexpected asset in the wake of their defeat - Liun Tio, aka the Knife, a notorious warlord and enemy of the Alliance whose deep-seated mistrust of artificial intelligence and control over what may be the largest free fleet in the galaxy have made him the most important man alive.

Story
Caleb is a former Marine Raider and commander of the Vultures, a search and rescue team that's spent the last two years pulling high-value targets out of alien-ravaged cities and shipping them off-world. When his new orders call for him to join 40,000 survivors aboard the last starship out, he thinks his days of fighting are over. The Deliverance represents a fresh start and a chance to leave the war behind for good. Except the war won't be as easy to escape as he thought.

Story
Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. This time, vengeance will be ours.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Publisher's Summary
An ancient starship discovered... An eternal enemy revealed... An impossible mission to save humankind.
The Goliath has been discovered, the first of its secrets revealed. Now the race is on for Captain Mitchell Williams and his crew to return to Liberty and recover Origin's lost memories before the enemy can complete their violent conquest. It's a mission with a near-zero chance of success. A mission that only the Riggers would be crazy enough to accept - and skilled enough to survive. A mission that will test the limits of Mitchell's mind, body, and soul and force him to make an impossible choice that could cost the lives of millions. This is war, and if he can't win a battle for a single planet, how can he possibly change the outcome of a conflict that has raged beyond eternity?

much better than the way it started!
This story /series has a lot of concepts and tech we are familiar with from so many other places like Star Trek, Star Force, Undying Mercenaries, Terminator, Empire's Corps; in fact I thought there was a connection to Nuttal's Empire's Corps at first since I thought I heard "Avalon." But no.
The back- (and front-) stabbing crew thrown together in the first book has worked itself out well before this installment, so some of the complaints I had there are no longer viable. There is good character development, and the original overabundant shake-my-head carnal scenes are absent in this book. This is about plot.
There's a lot that's familiar here. It's well-written and has its own differences from the others in the genre. There is mystery in wondering who is cloned/remade and who is really dead. There is excitement and danger. The time travel aspect ("past futures") is the most fascinating and unique to this series. If you like this genre, you should like this series too. It's a good one.

Reliving a million past future FAILS
I never liked the appellation, "Rig gers!" and now cringe every time I hear it. I would have preferred the author stick with Marine's "Ooh Rah!". The same with Admiral/Captain "Millie", I see her more of an Admiral Paine than a Millie, much like the Final Fantasy X-2 character. Oh, well.
Captain "Mitch" Williams continues to waft male pheromones like freshly baked bread with every new female he encounters seemingly wanting to bed him. Jealous much? Well, Yeah! While this genre is classified as SciFi, that part of the story is clearly touching lightly on the Fantasy genre.
{Spoiler Alert}
I was please to find that most of the Riggers survived the final battle in Book 1 but was dismayed when they were mostly turned into cannon fodder in Book 2. Also, most of Christine's role, between fighting to stay alive, was struggling with internal conflict about who she was and flipping between needing to save Mitch or kill him. It jumped the shark when Mitch was severely stabbed multiple times in the gut yet was able to recover by an unhealthy amount of meds and some tight stomach bandages.

Super disapointing
I loved the first book. It was one of those books you cant stop listening to and find excuses to do tasks that allow you to listen like cleaning and such.
This book is no where close to that. My main issue is this book does nothing for the plot of the series. I haven't listened to the next book yet and I might not. The main character pretty much does nothing in this book.
Beyond this point there is the most mildest of spoilers ever written down. I will type as generally as possible without giving away any plot points or twists i just wants to warn people reading this in case they are super sensitive to any sort of discussion of the direction of a book.
-----
I mean sure hes a soldier and there are a lot of horrific battles and lots of loss and he fights in the battles and they always loose these battles and its very depressing book. In the end it really all means nothing, the book basically ends where it starts off with not much changed. Maybe the characters have slightly more knowledge than they did before but that's it. I have a strong suspicion that you could completely skip this book and loose nothing from the overall series.

Excellent listen, EXCEPT!
I know you have to suspend logic and reality a little bit in the genre but having your wrist broken, being thrown across the room to slam into a wall, getting stabbed multiple times in the stomach and just putting a “Tourniquet“ on it before running several blocks back to save your squad and then running up 70 floors in a building to save The new important person and then running several more blocks back to get into your Mech suit ! Yeeeah, rrriiiight!!💩 other than this one little unbelievable stretch, the rest of the book was a fantastic! Looking forward to the next book in the series

Loved it.
After Mitch's terrible lifestyle being thrown on it's backside, this was a great character driven story... I was so glad at the end of the last book that some of the Riggers survived, a little worried they might well have been Tetron, but still so glad. I really liked Millie and Mitch's growing relationship and think that it ending so soon would have killed him as a person even more. The fact that he grows to like her more and more really keeps me interested in them, as well as all the other big stuff in here.
Of course, Christine Arappo is a brilliant character too. She's so resiliant, and has been there on earth for so so long. It was great to be in her head as a Tetron. Of course the back and forth about wanting to save Mitch and kill him was a little weird at first, but then I understood, and I really felt for her towards the end.
There was one scene which creeped me out, and I think it might for most, the transport ship to get them to the city, the fact they have to kill innocent and naked people. total psychological warfare at it's worst, but it was a great story moment from the writers perspective, to see that the Tetron had become so sick that they would actually do that.
Of course, Jeffery Kafer's performance was awesome. I keep listening to see if there's something he flubs... but nope. I can't fault it (at the moment) haha. I think two of the sayings are sticking in my head now... Slow, steady... and of course the Rigger's shout out! I wanted to shout out with them.
(I am actually almost through book 4 at the moment) just writing these out before I forget anything) and because I managed to lock myself out my blog, so I might have to use TSK's to post from now on, or I might have to start just a reviewer one. Sigh.
Anyway, on to the third :)

Great Story for any sci fi fan
Not really want to write a long review, so will keep it short. I liked the story line as it’s a little different to comprehend the whole plot which is nice for a change. The characters are quite enjoyable with different spectrums. I am looking forward for book three which I am about to start. Like the title says, you like sci fi, you will enjoy this.

Cheese
Top Marks for Jeffrey on his performance, but Forbes has a tendency to make his dialogue between characters a bit cheesy and by book two I'd had enough cringe to last all week. I've read a few of his books and it's not so bad in many of his other titles but this one just kept getting worse.
buy it if you don't mind cheesy dialogue the story is an interesting take on time travel and AI set in the future past !

A good sequel.
A good continuation of the series. characters are developing with every chapter. Still a little cheesy in places. overall a good space opera.

Book 2.... Too much of a disappointment
What to write? After book 1 I was excited to read this one... And it was boring.... I don't know how it is possible after good book 1. Every thing is as it should be.... but somehow it feels wrong and boring... The story is so predictable that there is absolutely no excitement or any interest in the plot. As always I will read book 3 hoping that next one will be better (I'm know I'm hopeless) but for now I need to take a break from this serie. I hope book 3 will be good, this story has a potential that it would be a shame to waist it.

Young adult sci-fi with political agenda?
Not bad, a fun continuation of book 1. Narration was reasonable, downward vocalisation at end of each sentence giving a stern and serious tone to the read, some reasonable vocal features to distinguish characters.
The constant pushing of a kind of anti pedophile agenda became evident, very strange to find such in a sci-fi novel. It kept shoving me out of my state of immersion and seemed like I was listening to some SJW polemic. We are meant to hundreds (400) of years into the future so this baggage of current political social concerns was out of place however admirable.
I'm still reading book 2 so I hope more current day political social agenda don't get pushed into the story, it will be a refund if it does.
I'm enjoying the ideas in the books, though quite reminiscent of other sci-fi novels - Counterstrike: Black Fleet Trilogy - Joshua Dalzelle comes to mind.
Overall, easy listening sci-fi, though fairly expensive as the books are quite short really for 1 credit, in my opinion.

Not on par with Book 1 in Series
A good audio book will keep my attention. I cant tell if this story was a bit disjointed or I had just lost interest occasionally and missed sections.
