Story
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

To her surprise, Jason, a brilliant economics professor at NYU, had other plans, and they married the following summer. For Angela, the marriage turned out to be a chance to reboot her life. She and her son were finally able to move out of her mother's home to Manhattan, where no one knew about her tragic past.

Me and Will. Will and Me. A perfect match. He said he would always be there for me, but it’s been a year since he drained his coffee, walked out the front door and vanished. Did he leave me? Or did something terrible happen? I’m scared someone finally found out about what happened on the drive home that night...I lie awake at night trawling the internet for rental properties, desperate for an escape. Until I see my husband’s gorgeous face smiling back at me from a photograph on the fireplace in someone else’s home, and something inside of me snaps....

The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. Then Natasha returns home one day to find her husband and Emily gone without trace. Desperate to get her daughter back, Natasha will do anything even if it means accepting an offer of help from Jen. But can she trust her? And do either of them really know the man they married?
If you loved The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl or The Couple Next Door, then this dark, twisting psychological thriller from Amazon best-seller Jess Ryder is guaranteed to grip you.
"This is, without a doubt, one of the best psychological thrillers I have read this year.... OMG this book is so darn good!.... I kept telling myself, 'Just one more chapter', then before I knew it, I had devoured it in one day! If you are looking for a fast-paced engaging read, this is the book for you! I highly recommend giving it a whopping 5 stars." (Sistas with Books Book Club, 5 stars)

Wow.. This booked absolutely sucked..
For anyone looking to waste a credit, this would be the perfect book to do it on. Oh my goodness. There are no psychological twists and no shockers, and just plain obvious stupidity. I hated all of the characters and I just didn't care. I listened to the end, and after the last sentence of the book I thought 'What?? Seriously?? This is IT??"
I am going to try and get my credit back, although Audible is making it more difficult these days. I hated this book- every single part of it. It was like eating cardboard pizza- all filler and no taste.
Awful.

An ABSURD story!
While this started out strong and with promise, the story just broke down about half way through. Yes, there were many twists and turns here which did hold my interest for the first three quarters of the book, but the twists turned into increasingly ludicrous and unbelievable actions and goings-on. I mostly wanted to strangle the protagonist for being such a spineless idiot. The pleasant narration by Annette Chown kept this story from being a complete farce. This was my first book by Jess Ryder, so perhaps her stories are just not for me.

Nail biting out of boredom
I have not written very many reviews on books. However, I am very disappointed with this book. It got such high reviews, but it is beyond me why. I’ve listened to a multitude of books, mostly thrillers. Some good, some great, some leaving me aching to hurl my phone out the car window. There is nothing exciting nor thrilling about this story. It drones on and on, and I kept thinking...surely this will get better. It didn’t. Don’t waist your time.

Stumped at the reviews ...
First I'd like to say that anyone who writes and publishes a book/books is courageous ... writing and the publishing process is not for the faint of heart. This is only my opinion and obviously differs from most given but one I wished I read and listened to before spending time on this book.
This author's descriptive writing is what had me listen until the end but that's about all that kept me interested. The main character, Natasha, is a whiny, immature, needy young woman who made so many poor choices it was painful. Every character in this story is despicable--even the baby was unpleasant. I had this whole scenario figured out in the first couple of chapters ... this is a sophomoric version of a "nail-biting gripping psychological thriller" best left to adolescents but only if you want them to get a very dim view of men as vile and women as helpless empty-headed twits. The performance was actually well done given the character constraints. The Narrator did well portraying the melodramatic boorish Natasha and all of the other pitiful characters in this twisted tale.
If you're looking for a perverse predictable story without much character development but done with creative, descriptive writing this book is for you. If you're looking for solid character development and a real psychological thrill, look elsewhere.

Problems with the actor.
This is a good book and generally I enjoyed the work of the narrator, voice actor. There are two female characters J and N. Sometimes it was impossible to determine if the narrator was playing J or N?
No change of voice, if you missed the chapter heading you lost the plot. Was this J or was it N’s reflections and story? So this spoiled the book for me.
A great story, but the actor was not sufficiently skilled to give each female character a distinctive and different voice.

Good but marred by narrator
I struggled to like Natasha as the voice of the narrator made her sound whinging and despite plot developments I don’t feel her character grew flesh.
I rarely write full reviews but when this is billed as ‘a gripping psychological thriller ‘ I felt I needed to reset expectations.
It is good but not brilliant. Change of narrator would help but I didn’t find it a page turner.

The narration is driving me nuts
Just not enjoying this book. I found the narrators voice to be so irritating. Over pronouncing every word, emphasising every ‘t’ so so annoying, I even asked my husband if it was just me but the moment he heard her voice he said “yes very annoying”
I’m sure the narrator is lovely but her voice for this character ruined it for me.
Maybe I would have got more into the story if it were not for that. Had to give up on n this one in the end, could not keep going with that voice.

So insanely far fetched it didn’t make any sense
So the narration of this book didn’t actually bother me like some other people...HOWEVER THIS BOOK IS SO FAR FETCHED, that it borderline doesn’t make any sense. No one in this book behaves at all like anyone would in the real world which effectively renders the story non sensical and very irritating. You spend the whole book going ‘WHY WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT’. The biggest issue for me (and also the main plot point in the whole story) is that we are supposed to believe that this woman’s child and husband vanish into thin air and no one LITERALLY NO ONE does anything about it, not even the police. Regardless of where they’ve gone, at this point they are by all accounts missing people and yet the police do nothing. The main character mopes about missing her daughter (for a large chunk of the book) and yet does absolutely nothing to try and find her, apart from knocking on one door and then turning around as soon as the owner isn’t very forthcoming. THIS WOMANS CHILD HAS VANISHED and all she can do is be sad and polite to people. The book keeps describing how desperate she is but then she doesn’t actually do anything to make us feel the desperation. I normally finish audio books in a week and this one took me over a month and I had to listen to pod casts in between to stop being so irritated with the main character and story line. I borderline can’t believe any publishing house or anyone for that matter didn’t read this book before it came out and be like ‘nope sorry doesn’t make any sense we can’t publish this’

Not great... Narration sounded amateur and cheesy.
Not great... Narration sounded amateur and cheesy. Story was quite basic and cheesy itself, as a combination it wasn't good

So many twists and turns that it keeps you guessing until the very end!
I listened to it as an audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I quite enjoyed how it goes back and forth from the past to the present. I did not pick the ending at all! Although you try and guess the plots and twists, the way it is written makes it too hard. A great read!

Another great psych thriller
I enjoy this chenre so of course I enjoyed this story. Abit far fetched... as in not very likely coincedences but still a good yarn. Recommend.

This storyline ducked and wove like a professional sportsperson . It was entertaining and enjoyable and had a few interesting turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Great read
