Publisher's Summary

This psychological thriller follows a family to their Appalachian farmhouse where they encounter an unimaginable horror.

In the summer of 1994, psychologist Daniel Hill buys a rustic farmhouse nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia.

Along with his wife and teenage daughter, the family uproots their lives in Ohio and moves south. They are initially seduced by the natural beauty of the country setting. That soon changes when they discover a hidden room in the basement with a well, boarded shut and adorned with crucifixes.

Local legends about the previous owner being an exorcist come to light, but by then, all Hell has broken loose.

This 1990s horror novel is perfect for fans of family thriller books, stories of demonic possession, exorcism fiction, the occult, or thrillers like The Exorcist, A Head Full of Ghosts, and The Amityville Horror.

Scary Listen

Thus book is scary, not in the slasher jump scene scary, but in spiritual demonic possession type scary. The scene descriptions are fantastic! I didn’t start another book right after this one like I normally would, this one left me thinking. I truly enjoyed this book, it kept my attention. If you are looking for jump scares, blood guts gore, normal run of the mill ghosts, this will not be what your looking for.

There are some books that truly terrify you

Then there's this piece of shit.

It reminded me of the stories I wrote as a kid. Except it was written by a full ass adult and OK'd by a production team that lacked the editing skill to identify decent storytelling.

The performance didn't do the narrative any favors, either.

I thought I was desensitized

Until finding Nick Roberts - The Exorcist’s House.

I cut my teeth on George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, I kid you not. My mom was a huge horror fan and she didn’t raise a wuss. As such I can find it challenging to find a story that truly scares me. My running joke is: Go on, scare me. I dare ya! Well I am here to tell you that this story rolls up its sleeves and says to you, “Hold my beer.”

I read the Audible book and for me that was the best way to go. For the narrator, Spencer Dillhay does a fantastic job with the voiceovers and it really added a terrifying touch that just sent my anxiety levels through the roof! I was pacing the floor at times and talking back to the story as if the people in my minds eye could hear me. Lol When you start to act like a loon, you know you’ve got one hell of a novel! Thanks for the scare, Nick! It was fun!!

Had to sleep with the lights on

I LOVED this audio book. Nick is a master of suspense with vivid and intense imagery. I felt like I was in the story, stuck in the basement with Daniel. Truly terrifying.

May I Have Another?

I absolutely loved this book. I was reading it on Kindle Unlimited on a mini vacay & wasn't able to finish before it was time to head home. So I bought it on Audible so I could listen while driving. I'm so glad I did. The narrator was great and completely sold the demon. This was my first Nick Roberts read and I look forward to reading more of his stuff. Thanks for the awesome story.

Not great and wrong narrator for the job

The story was OK, found myself losing interest at times. Also, as others have said, I think the narrator was a poor choice for this book. He just sounded snarky or sarcastic with everything he said.

Good story

As far as exorcist horror goes, this is very good. The end suggests a sequel. Don’t know if it exists, but I’d listen.

Horror fans read this! Horror done right!

This book was phenomenal! The author did such a good job creating an overall feeling of dread that builds up to the events in the end. I loved it, and the narration was absolutely fabulous as well. The demonic voice he used was so unsettling. It took the story to another level. I am definitely a fan now, and I can't wait to read more books by this author.

I'm not typically a haunted house type of girl..

..but this book was written absolutely beautifully! I've been looking for something to grasp my attention, and this author managed to do this from the very beginning. some things were kind of predictable, but not NEAR as much as I anticipated, and sometimes with a twist!
