Quite an interesting premise

I had heard this book reviewed before it came out so thought it would be interesting.
Lots of good examples throughout to show how your expectations can influence how your body reacts to things.
The thing I found a bit annoying was that at the end of each chapter there was a bell and then a little exercise to do - bit its really hard to go back after finishing the book to find all these individual exercises - so would have bene good to have them all repeated at the end.

Read this book!

"The Expectation Effect" explains why you are always right when you think you can or can't do something. The beliefs we hold about ourselves become self-fulfilling prophecies.
For decades there have been discussions about the power of the mind and how we can harness its "magic," but David Robson illustrates how little we still understand ourselves and what we are capable of. Supported by a plethora of sound sources and evidence, Robson explains how the brain works, why it's a prediction machine and how we can use its powers to our advantage.
This book should be compulsory reading in schools! I genuinely believe that everyone can benefit massively from reading this book.
Thank you, David Robson!

Brilliant and insightful

Brilliant and insightful, with proper research and lots of applicable examples. I have particularly enjoyed the self-control of the author putting plenty of disclaimers along the book to make sure readers don't get too carried away with certain statements.

Fascinating content. Do yourself a favour and read this book!

Highly recommend. Powerful stuff. Science based. I have come across the concept of the brain as a ‘prediction machine’ before, but this book has reframed my understanding to date in a new, powerful way. I will be relistening and revisiting often I suspect. Have also purchased hardback to make it easier to dip into specific sections.

Only complaint is that the narration often pauses awkwardly which I find quite disruptive to the flow. I’d also like to see the chapter breakouts in the audio book aligned and captioned to match the book chapters so it’s easier to revisit specific chapters and content more easily.

Fantastic second book.

Having loved Davids first book the Intellegence Trap I was concerned that the standard might drop, but I can report that is not the case!
I really enjoyed this and found it a fascinating Insight into how our brains predict our reality and then impact (often negatively) how we react to different situations with its expectations.
I will certianly be listening again and taking away many things that I think can help to improve my life and those around me.

Highly recommend.

Intriguing

This is popular science at its best, not only putting forward a fascinating thesis about the mind-body connection but also offering practical advice to apply these ideas to one's own life. The narration is exceptionally good too.
