We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Publisher's Summary
Extinction Evolution
Central Command is gone, the military is fractured, and the surviving members of Team Ghost, led by Master Sergeant Reed Beckham, have been pushed to the breaking point. While the strong return to the battlefield, the wounded are forced to stay behind on Plum Island and fight their inner demons.
Betrayed by the country they swore to defend and surrounded by enemies on all sides, Team Ghost has one mission left: protect Dr. Kate Lovato and Dr. Pat Ellis while they develop a weapon to defeat the Variants once and for all. But after a grisly discovery in Atlanta, Kate and Ellis realize their weapon might not be able to stop the evolution of the monsters.
Joined by unexpected allies and facing a new threat none of them saw coming, the survivors are running out of time to save the human race from extinction.
Extinction End
Almost seven weeks have passed since the Hemorrhage Virus ravaged the world. The remnants of the United States military have regrouped and relocated Central Command to the George Washington Carrier Strike Group. It's here, in the North Atlantic, that President Jan Ringgold and Vice President George Johnson prepare to deploy a new bioweapon and embark on the final mission to take back the country from the Variants.
With his home gone and his friends kidnapped, Master Sergeant Reed Beckham and his remaining men must take drastic measures to save what's left of the human race. But not everyone at Central Command has the same plan for victory. As the Variants continue to evolve, only a handful of heroes stand between the creatures and mankind's total extinction.
One way or another, the battle for the United States of America ends here.
Extinction Aftermath
Newly christened as the leader of Delta Force Team Ghost, Master Sergeant Joe Fitzpatrick arrives in Normandy over 70 years after Allied Forces joined the fight against the Nazis. The war to free survivors and eradicate pockets of adult Variants and their offspring is underway by the European Unified Forces. But as the troops push east, rumors of a new type of monster spread through the ranks. Fitz and his new team quickly realize that the fight for Europe might be harder than anyone ever imagined.
Back in the States, Captain Reed Beckham and Dr. Kate Lovato are settling into a new life on Plum Island. Across the United States, the adult Variants have all been wiped out, and the juveniles are on the run. But survivors soon realize there are other monsters at home, and they may be human.
As the doomsday clock ticks down and military bases fall across the country, the human race enters the age of extinction. Will science prevail - or will mankind vanish off the face of the planet?

Wow!!!
After 6 stories full of excitement the last one is "The End". It truly does end at a point that you can arrive at your own decision of a true end. However, there is a chapter 7 that starts a new chapter in the saga. I have opted to move on to something else for the time being, with hopes that Audiable will combine the books of the next series also into a group purchase. You do get involved with the characters which makes the story enjoyable to follow.

this entire 6 book series is off the chain
I highly recommend reading every one of these books they have all proven to be extremely extremely entertaining. One of the things I love most about these books is that it keeps the same characters throughout the entire series with some minor changes here and there adding some characters and characters die off excetera but for the most part the story revolves around Captain Beckham and Team Ghost.

The struggle for survival continues
The number of humans left alive continues to drop at an alarming rate and there isn't much time left. It has only been a few weeks since the apocalypse began and so far all efforts to slow it down have failed. All major cities have been lost and Central Command is being moved to the last remaining Naval strike group as no place on the mainland remains safe. Does that even matter now that it is obvious that the military leadership can't be trusted? At least things can't actually get any worse at this point can they? Actually, yes they can...
Books 4 and 5 continue the story at a breakneck pace until the original ending of the series is reached with things at a decent stopping point.. Book 6 then fires up a bunch of new story lines that are left unresolved by the time it ends as a total cliffhanger. Book 7 is not a part of this boxed set so if you don't stop at book 5, which works just fine as a series finale, then know you will need to pick up a stand alone book to reach a new resolution to the story. Does this extension actually make the series better? I am not so sure that it does.
I recommend picking up this boxed set to reach the original ending of the series in book 5 and then you can make your own decision about continuing or not.

Awesome beginning to an awesome story!
This is the first of the three books in the Extinction Cycle world. The author does an outstanding job of weaving a complicated series of events and characters together and Bronson takes it a step further with his expert reading of the books. I previously read this series on Kindle and was excited to try it out on Audible as my first download. Readers of post-apocalyptic will be hanging on every syllable and wanting more. Make sure to get the whole series. You won’t be disappointed.

An atypical zombie book but!
At first I was pleased with the atypical zombie scenario. However the writing is unbelievable in just how contrived and bad situations the characters get into. If the American military is as bad as they are written in these books it’s hard to believe they can even organise a piss up. Characters are well Rounded and believable but like a comic book they are thrown in to situations that are incredulous.

Doesn't miss a beat
I thought "another box set, what's wrong with it?" Absolutely nothing is the answer EC goes from strength to strength and NSS keeps on truckin'. Enjoying Bronson but also can't wait to hear upcoming RC Bray take on our heroes!

Outstanding
WOW...This series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith is the BEST series I have ever read and heard. The way it is written puts you right there in the middle of it all. The story gives you an attachment to the characters where it envokes every possible emotion. You simply cannot stop listening feeling every moment, from a sense of pride and determination to laughing alongside. Then sadness where tears flow...I have never felt so entrenched in a story where the writer has achieved this. A rarity. If you do not sign on for this epic ride you haven't experienced the true meaning of a brilliant writer. Do not miss this, treat yourself you will not forget this story....ever.. Brilliant.
