What a story and what an ending!

This is my second book by Connelly. I remember buying the 'Lincoln Lawyer' simply because I needed distracting from science books and though that it
might have been an interesting crime story novel. But now I'm hooked on Connelly's books and can't wait for the next one.
This story compels the listener to want to know more about this case and how it unfolds inside the courts, with various moment's outside the courts. My
favourite characters are probably the Judge & Ms Freeman, apart from Micky Haller of course, as their personalities are well depicted in the framework of
the story. And what an unexpected ending!

Up to date book

Having listened to most of Michael Connely's books, I like all of them, but this one was a wee bit better, than the last few. Enjoyed it from beginning to end, liked the characters, the book is very much up to date, has great personalities in it liked the bikers and the names for the two heavies! Although anticipating a twist, this one was brilliant. Looking foreward to the next book, as good as this one, the narrator was not bad either. This story could actually continue......
Anyone in doubt, if you like Michael Connelly, buy it, first timer for Michael Connelly, good too, you are opening a load of good books to come.

Gripping

Very enjoyable book. I really was not sure it I would enjoy it but fancied a different style and theme from my usual books. I was pleasantly surprised. I listen to books on long work related car journeys and I looked forward to spending time in the car so I could listen to it!

More from the Lincoln Lawyer

Daddy or chips? Bosch or Haller? After the gloom of 'Nine Dragons' it was great to see Mickey Haller back. This book does have a moral spine in it’s commentary on the state of the US housing market but this did not hamper the book for me. I enjoyed the development of Haller as a character and, whereas the other books had mixed positive/negative story lines I felt this book pays off and is more fulfilling. It always felt to me like Michael Connelly was never sure whether he liked Mickey Haller and played with set-up and knock down but this time out it feels like there is a purpose for the character; that we’re in the middle of a story arc. I hope this is a taste of what’s to come and, if so, I can’t wait.

Mmmm ... a little disappointed

OK ... I'll admit it right at the outset .... I'm much more of a Harry Bosch fan than a Mickey Haller fan ... Harry is a much more complicated individual and Haller can often come across as not the most pleasant man ever written about.

But Michael Connelly is one of my favourite all-time authors and definitely the master of the procedural crime novel. This, as always, is excellently written but the story is just a little ... strained. the problem starts right at the outset, because I do not believe that, even in America, there was enough evidence for the police to charge Haller's client with the murder at the centre of the book. A real lawyer would have made a motion to dismiss (and almost certainly had it granted) right at the outset. However, without the charge, there is no novel.

Having said that, I do like the way the novel expands on and promises more of the Haller story.

Not his best, then, but even a below-par Connelly is a better bet than the vast majority of crime authors

Fast and pacy story

Fast, pacy read. From sentence one you are swept up into this case. Entertaining to the last page read. P.S.This is my first Connelly, will definitely listen to more.

Mickey Haller goes from strength to strength

Another intriguing legal story featuring the defence lawyer, Mickey Haller, this time defending people who face having their homes repossessed because of the economic downturn and some shady dealings in corporate finance, so very topical. What I really enjoy in the court battles is the author's way of describing why the legal representatives on both sides act the way they do, their motives and the thinking behind their various moves. By the end of this story we pick up hints that Mickey is about to take a big step in both his legal and personal life. Roll on the next book in this series!

Brilliant story with many twists

A great book - I really enjoyed the Bosch character and I’m liking his half brother as well. I like the way Connolly doesn’t waste my time with padding and over egging the adjectives.
It took a while to get used to the narrator who read like he was delivering a series of one liners. The intonation was wrong for me but the story outweighed.
Haller uses every means to do the best by his client - I love being privy to the twists and turns as the case evolves.
You won’t be disappointed at the end if the story - only bereft that you have finished an excellent book and need a replacement.

More Connelly goodness

This is one of Connellys best. Excellent story, very well narrated. Kept me enthralled all the way through. Recommended.
