Publisher's Summary
His last challenge: live long enough to save the lives of those he loves.
Cold-blooded killer JimBone Wheeler blames Tom McMurtrie for putting him on death row. He once vowed that he’d bring “a reckoning” on Tom and everyone the southern lawyer holds dear. When Wheeler escapes from prison, he aims to fulfill his promise. Victim by victim, he’s getting closer to his ultimate target. But for Tom, who’s dying of cancer, the role of savior and protector is a struggle that is becoming more desperate by the hour.
As the body count mounts, Tom, his partner, Rick Drake, and his best friend, Bocephus Haynes, brace for a confrontation like nothing they have ever faced before. This battle will be waged not in a courthouse but on the streets and fields of north Alabama. Absolutely Great
This is the last book of the McMurtrie and Drake Legal Series. I was hooked with the first book. It is best to read the series in order. Robert Bailey was a new author to me when I read book one; now he is on my favorite author’s list.
The book is well written. The characters are interesting and believable. The suspense is almost unbearable. The scenes about cancer are realistic and are written with emotion. Only someone who had experience with cancer would be able to write so effectively about it. The ending was excellent in that it wrapped everything up.
This was a great series. I do hope Bailey has some more books coming. I highly recommend this series.
The book is nine hours and fifty-nine minutes. Eric G. Dove does an excellent job narrating this series. Dove is an actor, musician and a multiple Earphone Award winning audiobook narrator.

The Final Reckoning-Book 4 was suspenseful, wonderful & remarkable..❤️
‘The Final Reckoning’ Book 4 is a finale to a great series, of which I absolutely loved, ‘McMurtrie & Drake Legal Series’. If you haven’t read/listened to any of them please start with Book 1 now!
*Just a personal thing If you have Kindle Unlimited you can read & listen for free—if you don’t, please get it! Its one of the biggest reason I have been able to read & listen to as many fabulous books since 2009!*
Okay back to my last review of this great series written by Robert Bailey.
The final book was so down to earth—meaning yes there was a lot of suspense—but there was so much love into the main character, Thomas McMurtries last great ending. It could be, and most likely, because Robert Bailey wrote this for his father.
Roberts words not mine, quote: “I miss my dad. As Bocephus Haynes told Tom at the end of The Last Trial, Dad was “my guy.” He was who I turned to for advice and direction. He was also the reader I most wanted to please with my stories. So much of the character of Tom McMurtrie was inspired by Dad. Tom’s mannerisms, dialogue, love of bulldogs, and yes, his affliction with cancer, were all motivated by my father. Only someone who had experience with cancer would be able to write so effectively about it. The ending was excellent in that it wrapped everything up”. Wow...😔😪
What can a reader say after that...
I know Mr. Bailey does not answer any questions about any further series..but he did say: “What will be the legacy of Thomas Jackson McMurtrie? Only you can answer that question, and isn’t that the joy of reading?”
I so agree! The joy of reading is not always knowing the future of its character, that’s why we read..isn’t it?
As far as the narration—Eric G. Dove does an impeccable job of narrating all of the books in this series. Whether it’s a Southern accent or a woman, he’s fabulous! 5 ⭐️
Last word: I recommend 5 stars ⭐️ across the board, but as you can read I don’t give any spoilers away either. This was magical & touched my heart. I hope it does as well for you too! Also..I will miss my favorite lawyer, professor Mr. Thomas Jackson McMurtrie so from me to Thomas—“you brought me moments of happiness and sadness. If it hadn’t been for Robert Bailey I wouldn’t have been honored and pleased to have met you. May you Rest In Peace..”
Thank you Mr. Bailey for these books..and for..your Dad 💕

Another Terrific Read! 👏👏👏
Was hoping for a denouement that included a Bo/Rick legal partnership w/them and District Attorney Powell as fighting more bad guys, gals, and judges. Nevertheless, looking forward to more great Robert Bailey stories with characters turning the air blue w/lots of entertaining macho cussing 🥰 but (hopefully) w/o the blasphemy spewing out of nearly every character’s mouth embedded throughout this otherwise superb trilogy. Roll Tide and Long Live Leroy!!!

Great tying up this story's loose ends
The Final Reckoning ties up the loose ends of this series. It is exciting and keeps you reading. As I've mentioned in reviews of the other books in this series, the overuse of profanity hinders rather than helps the progression of the storytelling. Although I don't have virgin ears, the massive use of God's name blasphemed offends me.

Robert Bailey continues to deliver
I have become a huge fan of Mr. Bailey's work. The Final Reckoning is just as reviting and suspenseful as the previous books. I was a little dismayed at 96 chapters, but the action moves so fast that before I knew it, I was finished. Don't read this book of you have not yet finished the first 3 books.

Wonderful progression.
I have really enjoyed these books. I've liked how the characters have evolved, and the way their stories have developed over time. I'm not a spoiler so I'm not going to allude to the actual plots themselves, you'll have to read them. Well done for the Audible version too. Being able to maintain different characters voices, both culturally and being male or female! A skill. I like to switch about using both mediums. Late at night 🌙 I just hook the earplugs and listen. At other times I like to listen and read. Enjoy.

A fitting end to a brilliant series
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I must say that this series has been one of the most enjoyable and engrossing. Bailey has created a rich cast of characters, each with their own story and weaved around them a four book narrative that never slows or fails to keep you wanting more. Each of them could easily have their own series of stories. If that happens, I for one will look forward to them all.

Superb series
Grittier than Grisham, paced like a Patterson, with characters and settings that stay with you - vivid and engrossing - long after the last page, this book and the entire series it concludes is a must-read. Not just for readers of legal thrillers, or thrillers/ mysteries of any sub category. I can't think of many people who wouldn't enjoy this (and the narrator made it an addictive listen to boot!)
