Compelling Plot, Exceptional Narrator
Every aspect of The Fine Art of Invisible Detection was well done. Robert Godard’s protagonist is drawn with an unerring eye for the details that will both tie the reader to her and render her a fully dimensional human being. The side characters are sketched in exactly as much as necessary and the antagonist is enough. The plot engine drives relentlessly and I listened far too late into the night as a result. The real standout, however, is the extraordinary work of the narrator, Naoko Mori. I can not imagine anyone else filling out the presence of this book more adroitly. I’m hoping Goddard’s This is the Night They Come for You will be available soon.

Probably Better Read
The story seemed promising, but the narration was so incredibly slow I found myself zoning out. Kindle has the average reading time listed at around 8 hours, yet this audiobook clocks in at just under 12 hours, if that helps indicate just how slowly the narrator reads. I think this would be a better read than a listen.

Enjoyable
I have read many of Robert Goddard’s books and this one was as enjoyable as most but did not have all the twists that several others had. However, I still enjoyed reading it and found the main characters likeable, which many books do not have.
The narrator was generally fine, although I do find that in more recently recorded books some of the gaps between phrases are occasionally too long or emphasis in the wrong place. It’s nitpicking and didn’t happen often but slightly irritating.

Shame about the narrator.
Great, compelling storyline, but spoilt bu the narrator. Whilst I guess the reasons for choosing her ( great Japanese pronunciation and inflection!) it's not so good in the English. However, if you can rise above it and endure that annoyance, a v enjoyable listen! :)

Excellent
Robert Goddard has yet again written a thrilling, intelligent, and nail biting book. I really enjoyed it. Living in Cornwall, I could picture Porthtowan beach in the final showdown. But with a twist in the tale afterwards. Are there going to be more? I truly hope so. Perhaps a trilogy, as he wrote with the Ways of the World Series? Thank you Robert for your creative mind.

Fabulous story, beautifully narrated
A Robert Goddard book never disappoints, and this one is certainly no exception. It is the first of his titles that I have listened to rather than read, and the experience was just as immersive and gripping. The story is fabulous, with lots of twists and turns, the settings--Japan, Iceland, England--are vividly evoked and the dual points of view of main characters Nick Miller and Umiko Wada are perfectly delineated and absolutely believeable. The narration is excellent, beautifully-pitched and richly conveying atmosphere, character and action in a way that never flags. Highly recommended.

Another great mystery from a master ...
I have listened to every Goddard. This is his latest and I am amazed at some people's reviews.
Well, I thought it was great, a typical English mystery but with a Japanese female hero.
What's there not to like? Terrific well crafted mystery.
Goddard is a master of the mystery of the past unraveling and intersecting similar to Halan Coben's books.
If you haven't read Goddard try Painting the Darkness, Beyond Recall or Past Caring for starters.
