Story
A childhood accident robbed Vinnie of his memories, making him sensitive and anxious, and his difference soon attracted bullies. If it wasn’t for his family and his brother, Frank, Vinnie wouldn’t have survived. But as the boys grow up, and after the devastating loss of their parents, Vinnie finds himself increasingly involved in violent situations whenever he’s with Frank. When Vinnie is accused of a terrible crime and looks set for a long stretch behind bars, fragments of his memory start to return and he begins to unravel his past.

Publisher's Summary
The new thriller from bestselling author Ross Greenwood.
When DI Barton is asked to investigate a seemingly innocuous fire that kills, he believes it's either children fooling around or a worrying racially motivated crime.
As he delves deeper into the case, he soon realises that there is a history of similar blazes spread out over many years, all within a close area. An idea suggested by pathologist Mortis makes Barton suspect he has the arsonist’s motives wrong.
When a night worker comes forward with a tip, Barton narrows down the suspects. But with all of them acting suspiciously, he knows for sure that one or more of them must be lying. And when a huge house blaze shocks everyone, Barton fears the killer has lost all control.
Who is the Fire Killer? What will be next to burn?
DI Barton is back as Ross Greenwood continues with his bestselling series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham and Ian Rankin.
Critic Reviews
"A masterclass in crime fiction." (Jane E James)
"Move over Rebus and Morse; a new entry has joined the list of great crime investigators in the form of Detective Inspector John Barton. A rich cast of characters and an explosive plot kept me turning the pages until the final dramatic twist." (Richard Burke)
"Ross Greenwood doesn’t write clichés. What he has written here is a fast-paced, action-filled puzzle with believable characters that's spiced with a lot of humour." (Kath Middleton)

I love this series of books, but I felt like this last one was trying too hard to create something. It was a good twist as usual for the ending, but it felt more like repetition than anything. However I still hope for another story with DI Barton!

Sins of our Family
Another great human story. I really enjoy this DI Barton series as they tell the human story behind what makes them they way they are. I had a laugh at the line about remembering people with dogs, we always remember the dogs names not the person. Again what a twist at the end, never saw that one coming. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Great book...even better narrator!
The Fire Killer is the most recently released book by Ross Greenwood, which now catches me up to all the books in the DI Barton series. I'm sad because I flew through listening to the 5 books and now I'm left hoping there will be more. Mr. Greenwood has done such a great job leaving the reader (or listener, in my case) guessing until the very end. What made this over-the-top for me was David Thorpe as narrator. There are so many books I've listened to that are killed by the person reading them...David Thorpe is NOT one of them. He is great with the changes in accents and tones, and I'm not even annoyed when he does women's voices. I wish every book I heard had a reader like Mr. Thorpe. So I don't take too much away from the author, I have enjoyed the DI Barton books enough that I'll be checking out some of Ross Greenwood's other works while waiting to see if there will be more Barton books added to the series.

Another Fantastic Entry
The Fire Killer was another fantastic entry in the DI Barton series. Ross Greenwood excels at making his killers sympathetic, real people that blur the lines between overly simple good and evil. John Barton is a flawed, Everyman hero who’s a good man just trying to do the right thing. Well done and I look forward to the next entry!

Best. One. Yet.
The previous four books in this series were great, but this one was awesome. I liked how the main case caused a domino effect in other cases. I also did not see the ending coming. Talk about a surprise! Great book! I can't wait for book 6 to come out on audio! Thorpe, as always, did a great job reading the book.

An Excellent Latest Installment
I absolutely love the DI Barton series, and this latest book was just as brilliant as the first 4, with a nicely building plot and more than one unexpected twist.
Superb narration by David Thorpe as always.
My only complaint is with Audible, not with Ross Greenwood or David Thorpe - why when you have already listened to all of the previous books in a series, does their algorithm never tell you when there's a new release? It happens all the time and I find it so frustrating. I would have listened to this immediately it came out if I'd known about it! 😡

Gripping and clever
The DI Barton series is awesome. It shows the hard job of balancing family life with being a part of serious crimes in the police force. I was waiting for the release of this book with excitement, and it didn't disappoint. Ross Greenwood brilliantly puts across the pain and frustration of being destined to follow a certain path, and how hard it can be to genuinely want to change. David Thorpe's narrative skills are top knot. A brilliant book.

What a puzzler
I have now read 4 of Ross Greenwood’s books, I love them, you think you’ve got it and then there’s always a direction that you never even thought of, it’s always a surprise at the end
I also like hearing from both sides of the story it gives you a great background into the characters, and how they ended up where they are now, by doing this it sets Ross Greenwood apart from the litany of authors and I’m loving it
