Publisher's Summary

The Dark has nearly consumed the planet. Men and beasts have been stripped of their minds, their bodies twisted to serve the Master's will. Her army now numbers in the trillions and is led by two supreme generals. Even the mages have no power to stop her. Driving the survivors to a last bastion of freedom, she calls for the decimated army to surrender.

But mankind stands defiant.

From the ashes of nations the people have united, and together they brace for the impending storm. Bereft of retreat or refuge, they hold to a single hope - that the Oracle can destroy the Dark before everyone is slaughtered. Facing the end, the Oracle must rise to her birthright and find that which can cleanse the Earth of darkness.

Fight, Fight, Fight, then Deus Ex.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Too many passages of fighting. Just way too many. And they seemed to get a little repetitive. After 50 fights against OVERWHELMING odds, you kind of start to lose a little something for the fighters. Especially after they do some of the stupidest stuff ever. Hey, let's leave this OP guy alive - who pops back up to kick your teeth in. Didn't see that coming? I did.

If you’ve listened to books by Ben Hale before, how does this one compare?

Other than the fact he kept confusing Derrick's voice with Iris, awesome.

What three words best describe Derek Perkins’s voice?

I don't know.

Do you think The Forge of Light needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Maybe because it would be almost interesting to see if he could write more than three paragraphs without a 20 paragraph BAH fight scene. The ending was pretty optimistic, despite how dark the whole series was. Don't see how it can continue.

Any additional comments?

I"M DONE. YEAH. So dark! Almost depressing. SPOILERS: You killed Jack? and Breaker? and most terribly of all Hawk - once. But a jerk like Cayden gets two or three? Really? And isn't the myth "from the ashes, the Phoenix will rise"? That you didn't is one of the biggest FAILS of these novels. What's up with that? What's the point of Hawk being a phoenix? What? OOh that still gets my goat. And all those WTH moments. And no last words from Iris? Ugh!

Easy listening

The story was easy to follow, being young adult. It carried well. The performance of the narrator was good. My only comaint is that all of the male voices were raspy and not well distinguished.

Disappointed

Read previous series. Was extremely disappointed. Thought I’d try another series by this author not realizing it was a sequel. Loved the first book although it stole most of its story from the Harry Potter series. The second was all right, the third barfly mediocre, but this one reverted to the same pathetic quality I found in the first series. My guess is when the author got past Harry Potter and had to be original his imagination wasn’t up to it. The reader is great in so many ways, but his style suffers greatly in this awful story

Too long

This five book series could easily have been completed in three books and as such the fourth and fifth book were extraordinarily redundant but I read them because I wanted to hear the end of the story.

Lots of fighting

This book was pretty much all fighting, and not the good kind where you went a little bit it's all pretty much everyone loses constantly so that's kind of a letdown. that being said definitely a nice ending to the series and I would listen again and applaud the author and the narrator.

Last In the Series

Don't read this book if you havn't read the other 4 in the series first, but definately go and get them!
I loved this series and would have kept going if there were any more after it. Having never heard of him before I started this series, Ben Hale has become one of my favourite authors.

A Strong Finish

If the first 3 books were leaning heavily on Harry Potter, the 4th and 5th shed that load to a degree.

The faster pace of this instalment was refreshing and I'm not sure if the author meant it, but sidelining his main character for the majority of this book helped massively as she was consistently the weakest aspect of the whole series.

That being said, there was an underuse of the Swordsman I can only describe as criminal. By far the most interesting character in the series but after 5 books I'm a bit let down he didnt get a more in depth run. He could have a really strong series to himself.

Author focused on grand battles more than character development but that's been the theme of the series.

It was a good solid series.

Pretty good

But… what happened to the eternal thief?

I really enjoyed the story and hope my question will be resolved in the future.

There are still so many hanging threads from previous elements of the overall story.

The ultimate in escapism

What an absolutely epic novel. Allows total escapism from the woes of life. What more can one say,

Flatlined

It's true that there are connotations of Harry Potter, but on the whole I found this better written.. All that said the last book was predictable and flat..
I was pleased it finished...

Juvenile writting, but surprisingly enjoyable

Nice world and great narration, marred by doses of incredibly childlike and immature story. The author has sculpted a marvelous world and characters and then periodically destroys these with script suitable for a teenager's 'dear diary'

Action packed magical epic-ness

For lack of a better title, action packed, magical epic-ness doesn't even come close to the emotional, magical and vivacity this saga bombards your mind with creating a world so easily brought to life with the words of Hale. With each scene brought to life by Perkins talent of accents and tones. From one scene flawlessly linking to the next and without fail every scene sucks you in for the emotional rollercoaster along with each character combined with the colossal amount of action throughout keeps you yearning to turn every page.

Suitable for young teenagers and above, this saga will attract even adults with a love for adventurous tales. Set on present Earth, the magical world, I dare say, is more believable then Rowling's universe.

Highly recommended. Brace yourselves!

Note to parents: The adult themes extend to Kissing at most in a sexual nature. The most extensive of mature themes world be some descriptions of body wounds. Death of loved characters and mass murder. (on par with Harry Potter mixed with a more hunger games scenes - the books not films)

Note to all: if you like Trudy Canavan (Black Magician Trilogy), then you are going to love this.

Thoroughly Enjoyed

I thoroughly enjoyed this series including this final installment. It's nice to have a story which isn't trying to save everyone from the end of the world and actually portrays a descent fight and massive losses for the good guys.

overall I found myself drawn to listening more than usual so I plugged in whenever I can. enjoyable narration and overall thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Magic On Point

As pagan, rarely do I enjoy the systems of magic in fantasy books. This was definitely an exception to that rule. Loved the detail and the incorporation of the modern world into the mage world. 10/10, 5 stars and all that!

fantastic

A great story with a strong narrator. I was interested throughout and didn't feel like I was forced to listen to any 'filler' or random unnecessary story arcs. The books also delivered in their own right and weren't structured in a way where you were forced to buy the next one - the story arcs were spaced quite well.
