Publisher's Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm by Christopher Paolini.
A wanderer and a cursed child.
Spells and magic.
And dragons, of course.
Welcome back to the world of Alagaësia.
It's been a year since Eragon departed Alagaësia in search of the perfect home to train a new generation of Dragon Riders. Now he is struggling with an endless sea of tasks: constructing a vast dragonhold, wrangling with suppliers, guarding dragon eggs and dealing with belligerent Urgals and haughty elves. Then a vision from the Eldunarí, unexpected visitors and an exciting Urgal legend offer a much-needed distraction and a new perspective.
This volume features three original stories set in Alagaësia, interspersed with scenes from Eragon's own unfolding adventure. Included is an excerpt from the memoir of the unforgettable witch and fortune-teller Angela the herbalist, penned by Angela Paolini, the inspiration for the character, herself!
Relish the incomparable imagination of Christopher Paolini in this thrilling new collection of stories based in the world of the Inheritance Cycle.

A very good hold over until another book is made
This book is extremely entertaining and filled with amazing new tales. If you enjoy the Inheritance Cycle you'll enjoy this. My only complaint is after getting use to the way the reader voices characters in the main series to have him suddenly change it in this is slightly offputting. But even so still a great story!

Back to Alagaesia
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED coming back to Alagaesia, I just have a hard time fully enjoying anthologies and companion books because I can't help but feeling they lack substance.
This book picks up a year after the events of The Inheritance Cycle (I won't spoil this book, but if you haven't read Inheritance I can't promise you won't have anything spoiled for you in this review), and we catch up with Eragon and Saphira as they deal with the aftermath of Galbatorix's reign. By way of a short narrative we touch on the three short stories of 'The Fork', 'The Witch', and 'The Worm'.
Along the way we get to check in with Murtagh and Thorn & Angela, Elva and Solembum (sorry not sorry Erya shippers.) While an unexpedted surprise at the end had me in ridiculous, uncontainable, undeniable, joyfyl tears (I've been in this fandom for over 10 years, sue me) I didn't feel like this was strong enough to warrant a higher rating.
While I would 100% be interested in a full fledged return to Alagaesia, I wouldn't settle for anything less than the best from Mr. Paolini.
I also have grievances with the title and cover because I am that girl. (This didn't factor into my rating)
Listen, I understand this isn't part of TIC but for continuity's sake they could've tried to make the physical aspects of this book more cohesive. For one it is much, much shorter than the original four (even shorter than regular hardcovers) though I'm sure that is to account for the fact that this book is under 300 pages, which is unheard of for Paolini. Also, the title, 'The Fork, The Witch, and The Worm' is a little too reminiscent to 'The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe' in my opinion.
That said, if you loved TIC, you will probably enjoy this.

What a disappointment after the long wait!
A horrible incoherent rambling. I only managed to get 3/4 through this book before my utter disappointment drove me to put it down and stop listening as to not continue to foul my mood. I'm an extremely big fan of the Inheritance cycle books and read the whole cycle through at least 5 times and enjoyed the story and quality of writing every time.
However, after the wait of 7 years to be presented with this... Rather keep quiet until another quality work kan be published than to do this, and loose the confidence and support of you fan-base.

Good but shallow
As always Gerard Doyle is an excellent narrator and it was great to listen to the tales of the amazing characters created by Christopher in the Inheritance cycle. However, the story lacked depth and seemed to skim along the surface of events. I look forward to future stories.

disappointed
I love the inheritance series and picked this up to see what happened next. I was lost on the mini-stories and hoped it would tie off 1 or 2 main characters, not what felt like bits and pieces. it's a shame there is not a continuation of Eragon's next steps.

A nice set of short stories.
It’s so nice to return to Alagaësia after the end of the Inheritance cycle.
The three short stories give you a great insight as to what happened to some characters after the original books, and also gives an insight into the Urgals.
The performance of Gerard is as good as the other books. I really do like him as a voice actor for this series, but he completely changed Saphira‘s voice and though I felt before it wasn’t right, I got so used to it that Saphira’s voice in this one seemed wrong. The music is still there and annoying as the others but thankfully it is only a little at the start and end.

Not as good as I was expecting
I enjoyed the parts with the characters from the inheritance cycle, but the rest didn’t really grip me. “The Worm” just flat out bored me and I skipped the last five minutes of it out of frustration with the story not really going anywhere. The whole thing just felt a bit disjointed, like it had been written and cobbled together in a rush. Disappointing really, I really wanted to enjoy it.

An epilogue and a prologue
This book seems to act as a bridge between the inheritance cycle and what is to come. The story (well the three of them) are a bit to short to enjoyed as his other books are though they do leave you interested for what is to come with some suggestive hints here and there.

Overall what I expected
I typically have low expectation for books following a very successful series as they are often are fillers for unanswered questions and really just expanding our knowledge of what we already know from the previous 4 books. This was definitely worth the listen. Loved to hear how all the old characters where doing and I enjoyed learning about the Urgal race through their own story.
The only thing that stopped me from a 5/5 overall was due to some minor performance issues. None of them really worth mentioning but all of them together and one thing I couldn't get over resulted in a lowered star. I found it really distracting the way Murtagh's name was pronounced. Would have like to see some consistency in that area especially with him being one of the major characters in the series.

Short stories but worth it.
This book is basically short stories on a few of the characters from Inheritance Cycle and a new one.
Hopefully this is the start to follow on books.

Captivating and Continued Brilliance
What an absolute delight to read. Many of my favourite characters, some excellent new ones. The return of Eragon and Alagaësia is something we as readers have been waiting 10years for and it didn’t disappoint! Bring on the next volume!

Enjoyable
I wasn't particularly invested in the storyline compared to the inheritance cycle books but it was still enjoyable. I would have liked to hear more about Eragon amd the other key characters from the inheritance series.

Waste of money!
Thanks for nothing - this is not a book - it’s a very short collection of short stories. It’s lazy on behalf of the author who brags he can write a book I. Under 500 pages! Very disappointing after such a great series!

Interesting way to tell 3 different stories
It was nice to be able to read another book in Alagaesia. Gerard changed his voice slightly for the dragons and I felt his performance was much improved compared to the original Eragon book.

Snack sized
Enjoyed the book, however still hoping to see more full sized novels come out with Eragon.
