Publisher's Summary

Cassel

When I gave up life as a hitman, I thought everything was going to be better. I was going to become a PI, help people, and live normally…and then I met Jeremy, the most perfect man to have ever saved my life (I mean, he might be the only one who has saved my life, but he’s still the best at it). From that point on, it was all over for me - I knew we were meant to be. The issue is that he doesn’t…quite seem to realize that. But when he’s targeted by criminals (literally, someone just shot at his head), he needs to rely on someone, so why not me? He might not know about my past as a hitman or that I don’t need to be protected, but I’m prepared to do everything I can to save the day.

Jeremy

When my past comes back with a vengeance, I’ve never felt so alone and out of my element. That is, until Cassel offers me information that I desperately need, forcing me to drag him straight into danger. The issue is that he’s too sweet and innocent for this world, and I’m not sure that I’m strong enough to protect him, but I can’t bring myself to push him away. As truths come to light, I realize that maybe Cassel isn’t quite who I thought he was, and maybe we’re not so different after all.

While you can listen to The Former Assassin’s Guide on its own, you’ll get maximum enjoyment by listening to The Hitman’s Guide series first. This book contains speedy car chases and not-so-speedy ATV rides, a wager Cassel is determined to win even if it kills him, and way-too-tight sparkly spandex suits.

I laughed so much I woke my dog

I haven’t laughed so much since the first Hitman’s Guide book. Ms. Winters is so smart on how she plots how each action that continues throughout the book. It’s not dull and there are no breaks or lulls in the story. I couldn’t put it down. I adore Cassel and I’m so happy for him. He has a family and love. I did not expect to like Jeremy. He was such a jerk before but now I see he just needed a family too. I can’t get enough of this group. Gimme more. Michael Firraiuolo is amazing as usual. I have no complaints or criticism about his performance.

I didn’t know there was a cassel spinoff!

I read this after hitmans guide book 4. I wish the title indicated this was a Cassel spinoff. I really enjoyed this book more that hitmans guide 4. I hope a sequel happens!

Amazing!

Alice Winters and Michael Ferraiuolo are the dream team of audiobooks! Ferraiuolo nails Winters’ characters’ voices incredibly well. The snark, the humor and the rare shows of vulnerability, and does it without laughing out loud, which deserves an award.

The story itself is a madcap of action, adventure and romance that would make Leland proud. I’ve been one of those readers who has been waiting for Cas and Jer-bear’s book (and nagging for it) for ages. I was not disappointed. Alice Winters writes amazingly well rounded characters, with laugh out loud humor, and great plot.

Loved it

My favourite story within the Hitman world. Casserole and Jeremy are perfect for each other, both flawed but willing to do the right thing.

Just finished listening to this story and enjoyed it so much. I’ve been hoping Jeremy and Cassel would finally get together. This was amazing and I loved the story! Lots of action, snark, discovering friends and enemies. I will definitively re listen!

Very fun spin-off!!!

I really love Cassel and Jeremy in the Hitman's Guide. series so I absolutely love seeing them get their own adventure. With Leland and Jackson and Henry along, too. Perfect amount of chaos, giggles, and heat. These two series of books are a lot of fun and always a for sure buy when I see the new book come out.

Formula fades the second time around

This is a paler version of Leland and Jackson’s storyline. In both:
-the hitman is the scrawny, lippy one without a family
-the cop is the big, solid dependable one
-there’s a dog
-Leland’s main purpose is to crack off-color, lecherous jokes

It was hilarious in book 1, and still fun in books 2 and 3. But this book featuring Castle and Jeremy’s HEA didn’t really add anything new.

Alice and Michael do it again!!!

I love these characters and how the words from Alice flow so emotionally flow from Michaels lips!! Michael has brought each amd every one of these so very loved characters into the fantasy world of ones mind!! Leland and Castle will forever be the wonderfully crazy duo they are with their partners, and Henry the daddy figure of them all! Can't wait for the next one!

Perfection

Ah, the bliss of finding a book, indeed a whole series, that is the perfect mix of intriguing story, action, humour, romance, and amazing characters. I loved this book so much, it made me laugh so much, kept me hooked till the end, and got me so invested in sweet Cassel and big hearted Jeremy and their epic adventure. Thank you Alice Winters for this! 10/10, would recommend to anyone.

Only just ok

Former hitman, now a PI, Cassel has mooned over a grumpy policeman for months but Jeremy seems reluctant to give him the time of day. When Jeremy’s shady past puts him in danger, both men find themselves bonding over the things they were forced to do. It’s probably me, but I found this only just ok. I’d been hoping to get Cassel and Jeremy’s HEA but this seemed less humorous, the burn too slow, and the storyline more confusing than previous books - there were different shady organisations and a large cast of characters which were harder to keep track of. I was surprised at how incompetent a policeman Jeremy seemed, Cassel had to solve everything. I also think I expected more ribbing and more of a rapprochement between Leland and Jeremy. Definitely not the same standard as the rest of this series. Audio narrator Michael Ferraiuolo put in a good performance.

So funny with all the classic characters

Another fantastic effort by Alice and Michael. It’s so good to hear Leland and Jacksons voice again and Cassel and Jeremy really added to the book. I would love if there was a whole universe full of characters from this world. Great work and can’t wait to hear the next one.
