this book a a recurring issue thats very annoying

there are quite a few moments when the Main characters go into shock and don't acknowledge what's going on around them which in certain situations it should have go them killed like the murder standing right in front of the MC yet the murders that have no mercy for no reason don't kill them until someone shows up then they try to kill them .
then the MC gets his things stolen from him even though he was just warned that would happen people are really weak in this book pathetically weak seriously the MC trips falls on his face breaks his nose, concusses himself then passes out WOW.

Book 1 & 2 same story rewrote

The book itself is okay. is it just me or do all narrators make orcs sound like Shrek? lol I did not listen to the second book after a few chapters. Although I did fast Forward and listen including to the end, just to make sure that I was correct. Correct in the assumption that it is same book just rewritten. but if they were going to rewrite it they should have rewritten it well enough so it didn't sound exactly like the first in my opinion.

Terrible Narrator. Terribly Boring. SLOW.

It's overwhelmingly focused on useless filler details.
Extremely boring writing. The exchanges between character comes off like a public awareness press release. It just boring and mind numbing trying to listen to this

I enjoyed the story to tail short with character development

The story was fun and very interested Unfortunately a lot of the characters are pretty flat had no real connection to the characters even if one died it was not very meaningful and more magical development would be great but absolutely not necessary it was worth listen

Narrator hit frozen by ice shard

I found this book lacking depth of character development coupled with a narrator who performed as if reading a newspaper article. The plot had some merit but it wasn’t worth my time to watch it develop.

A ripping good yarn

I really enjoyed this book, the performance was a little flat though. The story line wasn't the usual run of the mill adventure which was a pleasant change

It’s was enjoyable and very stereotypical

If you like the classic story of a great mage who’s power is unmatched and everyone they meet along the way is so trusting then this is the book for you, I just found it a bit too predictable and narration was monotone. I did really enjoy the battles however as they were more descriptive

very well narrated but with awkward characters

It was nearly carried by the narrator but awkward characters ruined the story.
I think the author was trying to portray how trust can develop between people from completely different backgrounds but it just leads to awkward dialog which is difficult to work through.
I got about halfway through the first book in the series before giving up.

seems like a good story

i like the setting and the story seems good. but the writing is clumsy. after listening for six hours or so, i could no longer put up with the meaningless prattle between the protagonists.
a shame.
the narrator does a good job with weak material.

basic. but got me to sleep. no character building

2 dimensional and story seemed dependent on dialogue. not too much character or situation building. it just races along. not too sophisticated but ok for free. actually the second book teaser seemed more interesting. perhaps it improves....

Yes

While I think I found the story enjoyable, I had some issues. The vocabulary used isn't very broad, and there's an excessive use of the words "yes" in all conversations that could have been replaced with e.g. "indeed" "of course" "I see" and probably some other options to spice up the experience a bit.

I'm not sure whether to blame the author, reader or editor for this next one, though I suspect one of the latter. Either there's a big lack of punctuation in the book, or the reader/editor decided to disregard lots of them. Several other authors I've read, use a "big" paragraph split(shown below) to indicate a shift in perspective or time within the chapter.

------------

Though here some of those sounded like they were part of the same sentence, but they lacked coherence. I had to pause and go back on several occasions to get ahold of the story again. I could compare it to watching sports, where the commentator suddenly swapped from the end of a hockey match your were watching, to a ski jumping contest without pausing for breath. You would be momentarily stunned until you understood what just happened.

TL;DR: Yes yes yes without punctuation or paragraphs

Fantastic, fabulous, awesome

From the opening scene I was drawn into another world. The characters came alive within a solid storyline.
Glitches in audible had a couple of sections repeating which was annoying and off putting.
The narrator is great to listen to with a soothing voice, evenly spaced wording (not rushed) and the perfect tone. I listened non-stop for 12 hours with ease and excitement.
I have just purchased the next book in the series for tomorrow and can’t wait to begin the next chapter in this series to see what happens next.
Fabulous work highly recommended
A great read for the targeted age group also as it’s not explicit as many I have found in recent years

I do like Athger did you have to make him so naive and clueless it’s a bit much, that being said l loved the books. Have continued to book 3 hopefully he becomes smarter and more intuitive. Prose, language performance absolutely brilliant thank you 🙏🏾

Voice

Concept is good, a nice easy story to follow. However, the narrators phrasing is really distracting - everything sounds the same. He has a good range of voices - but serious elements are jovial. Jovial dull. And a tendency to go up and the end- giving that eternal onset of a question!!!!
