Publisher's Summary

What is Texas slang? Texas slang is a unique dialect that has been developed over time by the people who live in Texas. So, where does Texas slang come from? The origins of Texas slang can be traced back to the early 1800s when settlers from Texas began moving to other parts of the United States. These settlers brought their unique dialect with them, and it gradually began to spread.

Before divin’ in, here are six steps to get ya’ll started:

  1. When applyin’ Texan, think of words that end in G.
  2. Then, don’t pronounce that G.
  3. Texans love it when you sprinkle the term “fixin’ to” into dialogue.
  4. Don’t say “you guys”. Refer to 'em as “ya’ll”.
  5. Don’t ever call a Coca-Cola a "pop"; they’ve got no idea what ya’ll talkin’ about.
  6. Congratulations, ya’ll now versed in Texan speak.

If you're visiting Texas, be sure to brush up on your Texas slang! It will help you to communicate with the locals and get a better understanding of their culture. Happy travels!

MUCH needed resource for a DAD with two sons in TX

I found this book to be hilarious as well as a handy guide. As a father of two sons, daughter in laws and grandsons live in the land of the "stars at night are big and bright, deep in the HEART OF TEXAS! The author really hit my funny bone with this gem! " " "WELL BLESS YOUR HEART!"

Fun Listen

We downloaded this audio book for something to listen to on our first road trip to Texas. It was a fun listen and helped pass the time...and we learned a few things too!

My husband attempted to learn some of the slang and use it when were were dining at restaurants there...needless to say he got some looks. I recommend it for your road trip to Texas!

This is a funny way to understand accents and colloquialisms while traveling in Texas. Do you ask for 'soda' or 'pop' in a restaurant?

Perfect to understand Texas slang

I love this book. I’m a bit bias because I just love the Texas accent and the author did a great job of capturing the sayings! It definitely helps you understand certain expressions Texans use and the way are pronouncing the words.

Funny is an under statement!

I seriously laughed out loud driving to work listening to this. There is so much good content in here you would be silly not to give this book a listen. I did not know Texans had SO much slang, it really was hilarious to listen to and I cannot recommend it enough. My only complaint is that it's only half an hour long!

Busted my britches, laughing so hard

Texans don't have exclusivity on wordspeak! As someone raised in the Deep South, we have a lot of sayings that may sound like we are speaking a foreign language to the Yankees! I live in England and everyone always comments on my accent. What accent, I ask? That is like the pot calling the kettle black! if you want to hear funny accents, y'all come here. Well, I declare that what these people say, confuses even other English people! I reckon that some even try to effect a "posh" accent, which to us is them trying to act highfalutin. This book is so good that it makes me want to slap my mama! It's as funny as all get out and if you don't get it now, you may be waiting until the cows come home, to, enjoy Texas speak
