Story
We live in an extraordinary time. Technological advances are happening at a rate faster than our ability to understand them, and in a world that moves faster than we can imagine, we cannot afford to stand still. These advances bring efficiency and abundance - and they are profoundly deflationary. Our economic systems were built for a pre-technology era when labor and capital were inextricably linked - an era that counted on growth and inflation and an era where we made money from inefficiency.

Publisher's Summary
Audio Bonus! Includes exclusive conversations with the authors!
From the New York Times best-selling authors of Abundance and Bold comes a practical playbook for technological convergence in our modern era.
In their book Abundance, best-selling authors and futurists Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler tackled grand global challenges, such as poverty, hunger, and energy. Then, in Bold, they chronicled the use of exponential technologies that allowed the emergence of powerful new entrepreneurs. Now the best-selling authors are back with The Future Is Faster Than You Think, a blueprint for how our world will change in response to the next 10 years of rapid technological disruption.
Technology is accelerating far more quickly than anyone could have imagined. During the next decade, we will experience more upheaval and create more wealth than we have in the past hundred years. In this gripping and insightful roadmap to our near future, Diamandis and Kotler investigate how wave after wave of exponentially accelerating technologies will impact both our daily lives and society as a whole. What happens as AI, robotics, virtual reality, digital biology, and sensors crash into 3D printing, blockchain, and global gigabit networks? How will these convergences transform today’s legacy industries? What will happen to the way we raise our kids, govern our nations, and care for our planet?
Diamandis, a space-entrepreneur-turned-innovation-pioneer, and Kotler, best-selling author and peak performance expert, probe the science of technological convergence and how it will reinvent every part of our lives - transportation, retail, advertising, education, health, entertainment, food, and finance - taking humanity into uncharted territories and reimagining the world as we know it.
As indispensable as it is gripping, The Future Is Faster Than You Think provides a prescient look at our impending future.

Totally Mixed on This One
OK, get ready to drop some LSD and get into your haptic space suit, here comes the future!!!!
I get the whole tech-revolution thing, I really do...but the utopian world of personalized nanotech medicine, flying cars and the entire 'beam me up Scotty' always leaves me wondering what planet they are talking about.
When well over 50% of the population of the world's richest nation lives paycheck to paycheck. When back roads of towns are like driving on a Roman cobblestone street. When you walk into a restaurant bathroom and wave your hands furiously under the 'automatic faucet' for sixty seconds waiting for it to give you water,,,,I wonder where these guys have been. Every time I stick my hand in front of the soap dispenser and nothing happens, I question how you are going to pull off this miraculous, AI-driven super world that they tell us is coming.
I say, fix the most important and critical local things, then let's worry about flying cars. Make a damn faucet that actually works when you wave your hand under it and maybe you will make a believer out of me.
The other caveat I see here is, yes, there are gazillions of dollars being dumped into tech right now....but, we are riding the tail end of one of the longest expansions in modern history. At some point, the sugar high of the $2T+ tax scam is going to wear off...when that does, the poo-poo is going to hit to proverbial fan. My guess is that the timelines change just a teensy bit when reality sets in. I guess the answer might be to put on the VR goggles and have your 22 year old cyber-concubine bring you a bottle of wine from your virtual wine cellar,...then pet your virtual dog for comfort.

Not about the future. This book is about the past.
Really disappointed. I was hoping for a book that makes interesting and compelling speculation about the future of technology. Instead, this book is more about the past. What are some of the book's predictions? Drones. Bitcoin. DNA sequencing helping tailored medicine. Artificial intelligence and predictive analytics. Electric cars. Crowdfunding. Did I accidentally buy a book from 2012 that makes predictions about 2018? What a disappointment.

one sided
a good listen, a captivating storytelling, but a very one sided point of view.
the future is faster than you think is a(nother) silicon valley manifesto and at points an example of the silicon valley mentality, driven by hubris.
the future may be faster than we think, but the present is harsher than they (supposedly) believe.

Make powerful lifetime decisions
Peter and Steven outline extensively how ten industries are vastly changing in the future. One industry I was about to commit my lifetime to will infact change so drastically that my business model has no place in it. As a result I've made a business decision to pursue other opportunities. It might've made be $500k in the next few years, but then it would be worth nothing. Instead, this book has opened my eyes to real opportunities that have business value now and in the next 10-20 years. If a future where you both participate and win is what you want, read this book.

Not really about the future
First, I want to say I enjoyed this book overall but found the title to be misleading. The title suggested it’s about the “future” so I expected predictions about technology and life changes that would be revolutionary, not evolutionary. Everything in this book is about todays tech and how it will evolve in the near future and the author did a good job, I only wished it had a longer view and some forecasted dates would’ve been nice too.

You must read this. Only 4 stars because the Authors are enthusiasts, and don’t ask enough tough questions. They acknowledge the existence of issues, but their modus operandi is to report and celebrate the possibilities. Also read Y.N.
