Publisher's Summary

The veil between the worlds is shredding. The old goddesses are calling.

Erin inherits a cottage in a remote village from a grandmother she's never met. Considering how much she longs to get away from the unexciting life stretching out in front of her, this might be a dream come true.

Except that it's a village full of witches and Druids practising an ancient religion passed down through the centuries, and the priestess leading it is the calm, uncanny death worker Morghan Wilde.

Life is different in Wilde Grove, with ownership of the cottage coming with a non-negotiable condition, and it's one Erin's not sure she can meet, or even if she should. She must choose to believe in the unbelievable - and then learn how to do magic too. Only then will she be able to claim her inheritance.

It's an inheritance that is so much more than a cottage in the woods.

Coming from a world that doesn't believe in magic, can she change her mind in time to claim her true identity and begin walking the path of her ancient ancestors?

Great potential

The book feels like it was written quickly with minimal editing. For example, every character seems to be licking their lips, the word “good” is overly used, and the conflict seems too easily overcome. The references to other books of our generation will be lost on future readers and is already lost on those of us who did not read the Harry Potter books.

The narrator does not vary her voice for the characters sufficiently to know when someone new is speaking.

However, it’s clear the author is a spirit worker herself with much experience. For that reason alone, I kept listening. It was as if I was learning from the character, Morgan, herself. I will listens to more in this series to learn about the spirit practices but not necessarily for being caught up in another world.

loved the storyline

I loved the storyline but I didnt care for the narrator. She sounded too old and her speech too clipped for such young characters

Slow moving story

Pretty boring overall. I feel like often times the author fell back on the making a spot, cup , pot of tea. , to fill the story out.

An enlightening story

An enlightening story about a young womans journey of self discovery, the secrets kept from her, and her place in the world. The captivating narration transports you into the intertwining happenings of The Grove, and the lives of all who reside there. About being true to yourself to become your true self, and the difficult process of transforming into that person; for you and your loved ones. Having the confidence to follow your own path, without falling into the trap and guilt of other people's opinions. Remembering who you are, before life took over and told you who you should be. Reassuring messages about the environment and nature's offerings, and how we all make a difference. This is a must listen to.

Really enjoyed this book

I really liked this entire story and how it unfolded. The characters were well thought out and the narrator did a wonderful job of bringing the author's character's to life. Ending was refreshingly unique and left me wanting to see what she is going to conjure up in the next book!

??????

I absolutely loved the writing. I was so engrossed in the building of the characters and their lives. I could almost picture myself sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of tea.
But, I kept expecting it to go somewhere ANYWHERE. It didn't. The story just stopped. Worst cliffhanger ever. For the simple reason that the author never gave you anything to want to buy the second book.

Do not bother!

I was really looking forward to listening to the book but I couldn’t bring myself to finish! What a load of self-righteous tosh! The writing/story is lacklustre and boring and the narrator is woeful. 9 hours into it and nothing of anybody significance had happened. I just had to give up!

Details

I’m enjoying the book so far but am finding some of the details annoying, for example, hares live in forms not burrows and foxes live in dens not burrows.
Really hoping there aren’t any more mistakes like this!

Got better with each chapter

l found it to be quite slow to start with and was on the verge of putting it down. Then l started to think about the characters when not reading it and knew l was hooked. l have just ordered book 2 so that says it all.

Tortuous

I only carried on listening because I promised a very good friend who recommended it, I would. The narration was appalling... and didn't help me to get on with my promise.... by the end I was squirming. I have a good knowledge of spiritual practices, including shamanism, herbs, grounding... that way that matter was dealt with was also maddening...
I'm glad I kept my promise... but it was the hardest thing I've done in a long while and I certainly won't be reading or listening to this anymore.

Mixed views

The research into this story has been 2nd to none. Paganism and witchcraft sensitively represented but it has been let down by repetitive lines in the writing. All the vicar seems to say is '' What does that mean?'' then repeat what's just been said to her.
It's a lovely story just not well told.

Hit a cord with me

Love love loved it, it hit a cord with me as my mum passed away with cancer during our first lock down here in New Zealand so I cried in the first few chapters. So the theme of self discovery, finding our way within ourselves and in our world that needs so much compassion and kindness towards each other and healing in our world was and is very much in step with who I am and trying to become more of within myself
