In the autumn of 1707, old enemies from the Scottish Highlands to the Borderlands are finding common ground as they join to protest the new Union with England. An invasion is imminent as many plot to bring the exiled young Jacobite king back to Scotland to reclaim his throne, and in Edinburgh, the streets are filled with discontent and danger. Adair Radcliffe is only a child when her family perishes in the War of the Roses, so her real father, the womanizing King Edward IV, takes her in, honoring his promise to her mother. Once Adair turns 16, the king marries her off without her knowledge - and to her later outrage - in a wedding by proxy. But when tragedy leaves her a widow twice over, Adair realizes that her already tenuous social position has sunk even lower. Now, all she can do is hope that the Scottish laird to whom she is sold will have mercy on her. But little does master or servant suspect that love knows no rank.

He is the last duke standing...the sole remaining bachelor of the three self-proclaimed Decadent Dukes. Yet, Davina MacCallum's reasons for searching out the handsome Duke of Brentworth have nothing to do with marriage. Scottish lands were unfairly confiscated from her family by the Crown and given to his. A reasonable man with vast holdings can surely part with one trivial estate, especially when Davina intends to put it to good use. Brentworth, however, is as difficult to persuade as he is to resist.

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Publisher's Summary
The third installment in the gripping series that follows the exciting lives of Beth and Alex MacGregor, their family, and friends.
The year is 1744 and Prince Charles Edward Stuart is stranded in France, his hopes temporarily frustrated, as the planned French invasion to restore his father to the British throne has had to be abandoned. The prince, frustrated beyond endurance, makes an impulsive decision that will change not only the lives of the MacGregor family but the history of Britain forever.
Meanwhile in London, Beth, bored to distraction by the inanity of society life, hatches a plot with her friend Caroline to free the timid Anne Maynard from the clutches of her domineering guardians.
Once it is clear that the much hoped-for invasion has been postponed, Alex and Beth go to Scotland for a few weeks in order to introduce her to her new clan and family. She is both excited and nervous at the prospect, but nothing in even her wildest dreams can prepare her for the challenges she is about to face.
An unexpected meeting whilst in Scotland has consequences that may prove disastrous for Beth and Alex. In London, events take an unexpected turn, as Beth’s good deed has repercussions that she could never have envisaged, proving that the past is not easily forgiven or forgotten.
Join the rebellion of Beth and Alex and their fight for freedom in The Jacobite Chronicles.

Absolute audible perfection!
This series is historical romance at it's best! Even though I don't typically read individual books in a series until they are all available, I devoured each one so far in this series as soon as they came out. I just can't help it. Julia Brannan is a brilliant writer who is able to deliver historical accuracy with a back story of political intrigue, complex subterfuge, delicious romance, and adventure!
That duet narration is absolute perfection. Rosalyn and Will seamlessly transition between characters with flawless precision. I never had trouble knowing who the speaker was based on tone of voice, cadence of speech, and the widely varying accents. Just freaking awesome!! I definitely recommend this whole series.

Julia Brannan Best Historical Fiction Writer
Everyone aspiring to write historical fiction should read this series. Julia Brannan knows how to create complex characters that go beyond shallow stereotypes of the era. It’s obvious that she has done extensive research on the culture, philosophies, religious beliefs, and even frivolous pastimes of the eighteenth century. I have learned so much about the Hanoverian kings, including their family dynamics. The same holds true for the Stuarts leading up to the rebellion. I had no idea of the challenges facing successful spy rings. She also knows how to include plausible love, romance, and passion without going overboard, as too many writers do. Smut is emphasized in place of substance. Finally, Brannan is to be commended for her strong, complex female characters. Though I’m tired of tiny, delicate female protagonists, at least Beth speaks her mind and can throw a knife more accurately than most male warriors—and her mother taught her the skill. Finally, Brannan is skillful with foreshadowing and description of setting, which go hand in hand. Brava!

Third in Series
While this book doesn’t have as much action and the first two, it is interesting reading about what was happening in the background before the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. We know from history of course that they failed, which casts a pall over the story. Lots of tension between a few of the characters kept me reading into the night.

Never a hiccup as one volume flows into the next!
I knew before I began this series that there would be six volumes, but as I closed out Book 3, I was already dreading the finish of Book 6! I never dreamed I would find an author who could top the portion of Outlander that covered the Jacobite Rebellion, but Julia did it! Her ability to immerse her characters so fully into the lives and happenings of real historical figures is mastery! And she's done that without compromising any accuracy of those. I believe that is one thing that has me so completely hooked. Nah...I'd be hooked anyhow...it's just much too good!
The story builds along with the volatile events of the period with our characters right in the thick of it. Alex, our intrepid hero does his hero things, both in plain sight and covertly, while, Beth, our heroine manages to keep events on the domestic side of our tale neck & neck with the looming war that is inevitable.
It is all brought alive by those incredible narrators, Will Wat and Rosalyn Landor! Their voices are incredibly versatile and you won't have any difficulty in keeping the characters straight. Knowing those two, I doubt either of them would have a problem voicing the entire series on their own! Bravo to them!
