Publisher's Summary

A 17-year-old Texan from the wrong side of the tracks starts a supernatural detective agency - this is Fear Street for a diverse America.

Erasmo Cruz is from the wrong side of the tracks. His dad was a junkie who overdosed. His mom chose to run off rather than raise him. His only passion is the supernatural, and his only family is his grandmother, whose aches and pains, he soon learns, aren’t just from old age but from cancer.

Desperate to help his grandmother pay for treatment, Erasmo sets up shop as a paranormal investigator. After witnessing a series of inexplicable events, he must uncover the truth behind his clients' seemingly impossible claims. From hauntings to exorcisms, Erasmo soon finds that San Antonio is a much scarier place than even he knew.

A ghost story with a heart

The Ghost Tracks is a thrilling and entertaining paranormal mystery written with care by new author Celso Hurtado. I would even go so far as to say that this is a ghost story with heart!

The action in The Ghost Tracks follows Erasmo Cruz, a 17-year-old Texan from San Antonio with a passion for the paranormal and the world beyond. His life story is dramatic, so when the only person that cares for him needs help, Erasmo opens a supernatural detective agency hoping that he will be able to put his skills to work in order to get some money.

But, very soon Erasmo finds out that the life of a paranormal investigator is not easy at all. What follows is a really entertaining adventure filled with strange people, vengeful ghosts, and other fascinating events.

The audiobook version of The Ghost Tracks is narrated by Ivan Jasso, a newcomer in the audiobooks industry who delivers a captivating performance. He does a great job with bringing the characters to life, complete with different voices and credible accents. The Ghost Tracks is his first audiobook and I couldn’t tell that considering Ivan sounds very professional and when thinking about the more than satisfying quality of the audio production.

As I said above, The Ghost Tracks is a ghost story with a heart, beautifully written, entertaining, and expertly performed. If you like this kind of adventure, don’t miss out on The Ghost Tracks! Can’t wait for the next audiobook in this new and thrilling series to be released.

I hope that you found this review interesting and will consider leaving a helpful vote below. Thank you! Take care, stay safe, and don't forget, always listen with your heart.

A Wild Ride

4.5 out of 5 stars

I went into this one pretty blind and doing so I was genuinely shocked at how interesting and... I can't even find the words to describe the feeling I had. I'd compare it to the heebie-jeebies, I guess. Celso Hurtado is a new author to me, but I'm glad that I was able to give this book a chance because it definitely jumped off of the pages at me.

A combination of horror, YA/coming of age, and a mystery or procedural book - The Ghost Tracks ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of readers. Erasmo was a unique and flawed main character who I absolutely fell in love with as the book progressed. His flaws would come out randomly and either cause issues or end up biting the progress he made in the butt.

I won't talk too much about the over-arching storyline here because there were a lot of twists and turns. Even a veteran at guessing endings couldn't have seen some of the twists that Hurtado threw in.

Throughout The Ghost Tracks, I had a feeling of unease - one that mirrored the same feeling that Erasmo seemed to have. I give lots of props to Hurtado for being able to write a main character with enough emotion that I felt it and was mirroring it. That's not easy to do and definitely stood out to me.

Overall, I thought The Ghost Tracks was an excellent and interesting book. Yes, it's completely messed up and the things that Erasmo runs into are insane and made me go "wtf" numerous times. But wow was this book a wild ride.

Ivan Jasso does a great job with the narration - I honestly liked Rat's voice more than any of the other voices he gave the characters. Granted, most of the story is told from Erasmo's point of view - every chat with Rat was perfect.

Intriguing!

I enjoyed this book for many reasons. It is suspenseful and mysterious and keeps you wondering what is going to happen. I also enjoyed how various places in San Antonio that I love so dearly are described. I could see the characters and surroundings. The narration was perfect as well, and it was enjoyable listen to.

A Coming of Age

This was a coming age of a sort of story where 2 young men faced their fears, hopes and dreams. lots of inner dialog on some tough subjects. It is a guys story, although as a mother of 2 grown boys, I could feel some of their pain. Lots of violence in a city of no mercy.

A good first story

This was a good first story. I enjoyed the twists and turns. I felt the pacing was a bit off in the book but otherwise it was very enjoyable. The narration was excellent. Female characters were not the best but were passable. Above average for a narrator. I would reccomend this book.

Self-discovery and a touch of supernatural

Erasmo Cruz is a young teenager being raised by a sick grandmother ravaged by aches pains caused by age and cancer. His life is ahead of him, but which direction will it take will he carve his own path or That of his drug junkie dad or a flight happy mother? Needing every spare dime to help his grandmother and keep food on the table, Erasmo turns to the only thing he knows. With his best friend in tow, both guys become embroiled in ghost hunting and a strange acting person. Driven to discover the truth and help where he can, Erasmo uncovers some terrifying secrets tinged with deadly consequences.

The author, Celso Hurtado weaves a fascinating story about a young man and his adventures with the supernatural and the living. Mixing urban history with his creative storyline, Hurtado captures his listeners. Each character is well developed in the author’s own time, not before! Teenage angst, responsibility, fear, and more are clearly communicated in his writing and the skillful narration of Ivan Jasso.

Ivan Jasso gives a rock-solid performance, unique voices, and a strong yet smooth cadence. His voice projects the excitement and fear of the situation and characters accurately. His delivery of words is smooth.

This is an interesting and entertaining book especially for those of you into ghost hunting. Cruz accurately describes the techniques and tools used by professional ghost hunters.

The production and quality of this audiobook were perfect. I encountered no issues; it was clear and crisp.

Christmas Road Trip Audible

My spouse and I absolutely loved this book! It is categorized as a young adult book. But as a mid 50's San Antonio native I had to read(listen) to the story titled after our local folklore and I was not disappointed. We hardly made any stops on our 11hr road trip in anxious anticipation of what was going to happen next in the book. Ivan Jasso's narration captured the San Antonio feel and his voice was perfect in capturing the surprise twists and turns throughout the book. For me this story is a story of love, hope, self discovery, healing and new beginnings. Although it definitely lives up the horror genre as well. I am looking forward to the sequel to this book.
