Publisher's Summary

Bookshop owner Penelope Thornton-McClure and her ghostly companion must solve the case of a literary killer in this Haunted Bookshop mystery from Cleo Coyle, writing as Alice Kimberly.

Pen has just received an extremely rare collection of Edgar Allan Poe's complete works. Rumor has it a secret code, trapped within the books' leather-bound pages leads, to buried treasure. Well, it looks like they got the buried part right - because, as Pen sells off the valuable volumes, everyone who buys...dies.

Once these books go missing from their owners' cold hands, Pen will need resident ghost and hard-boiled P.I. Jack Shepard to help crack the case. The police are skeptical that the deaths involved foul play - so it's up to them to unravel these shocking endings....

Best so far

I've enjoyed the previous books in the series, but wasn't over-the-moon with them. But this one seems to take it to a better level. The mix of the old PI's ghost and the more complex mystery threaded in with the song's life and all the town's people's personalities creates something much richer. Partly it's just developing the world of the book through the previous stories, and partly this is just a really good plot!

Too silly

Main female lead became too dumb. Also people supposed to be her friends did ridiculously dumb things that got her in trouble/hurt. Couldn't finish it

Kind of annoying

What makes these books so annoying is the fact that it seems that in every story every character is reintroduced and the main character seems so ditzy. She is constantly bringing up her dead husband and talking about his suicide like she’s an expert when she clearly needs therapy herself
