Story
Statistics show that 50 percent of what determines divorce is genetic temperament. And, if you are one of the 20 percent of people who are born highly sensitive, the risk of an unhappy relationship is especially high. Your finely tuned nervous system, which picks up on subtleties and reflects deeply, would be a romantic asset if both you and your partner understood you better. But without that understanding, your sensitivity is likely to be making your close relationships painful and complicated.

Story
The Introvert Advantage dispels common myths about introverts - they’re not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial - and explains how they are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation such as chitchat, phone calls, parties, or office meetings can easily become "too much". Most importantly, it thoroughly refutes many introverts’ belief that something is wrong with them. Instead, it helps them recognize their inner strengths - their analytical skills, ability to think outside the box, and strong powers of concentration.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

Empaths not only sense other people’s emotions, but also absorb them - sometimes to their own disadvantage, often leading to overwhelming sensory overload and feelings of confusion or low self-esteem. "True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability - the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome - is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall. It is the rise from falling that Brown takes as her subject in Rising Strong.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Publisher's Summary
Are you a smart high achiever who suffers from anxiety or depression? Do people say you’re too sensitive? Do noisy crowds, conflicts and brash people irritate you? Does your heart ache when loved ones don’t emotionally connect with you? Do you want to find your true authentic self?
If you struggle with a highly sensitive personality, this memoir and collection of stories will help you heal and flourish.
Benita A. Esposito is a licensed professional counselor and best-selling author with four decades of professional experience. Even smart high-achievers have themes on their hero’s journey to the authentic self, and these were hers.
What unconsciously drew her to an emotionally distant relationship or an emotionally abusive relationship? Why did she feel so hurt when others judged her? Why was she so tired? What compelled her toward self actualization?
Anguish motivated Esposito to find the most effective emotional healing techniques so she could lead a high-quality life. Adult attachment theory nudged her to dive deeper into healing childhood wounds so she could experience fulfilling relationships.
When Esposito squelched the search for romance, her core transformation began. She summoned the courage to ferret out her deepest fears, cultivate self-compassion, and develop deeper intimacy with God. As she learned to manage the challenges of being an introvert, an intuitive empath and a highly sensitive person, calmness replaced anxiety and perfectionism.
The Gifted Highly Sensitive Introvert: Wisdom for Emotional Healing and Expressing Your Radiant Authentic Self will help you feel whole regardless of your external circumstances. You’ll receive expert guidance to navigate your hero’s journey to your true authentic self through stories told with vulnerability and transparency.

Yawn
Nothing new in this for me. The author spends way too much time on her own dull personal story and her voice literally put me to sleep. I genuinely tried to get into this book, but every time I turned it on I would get so bored my mind would wander and start thinking about other things. Also, for those that aren’t religious, her views and opinions are based in Christianity and mainstream techniques which turned me off.

I AM BEING SET FREE...AMAZING Book
I am 53 and somewhere over my life I came to the belief that something was seriously wrong with me and was losing hope. THIS BOOK...I am not alone!! Every single page I read brought me to me knees in tears, mostly because someone finally understood me and showed me that I have very special gifts, I know now my intuition can be trusted,I have stopped beating myself up for needed more rest and downtime than many. I can thrive in the areas of my life that others have devalued in me from lack of understanding. Coming from a lifetime of daily emotional abuse really wrecked havoc in my body, mind and spirit. If you struggle with being an HSP then this book is for YOU! The author has been through these struggles herself so she really understands like no other I have found. Her voice is so soothing which is a wonderful asset for us HSP's as we learn to navigate through healing so we can live a life fully alive!

This book provided great insight!
As a lifelong introvert I was drawn to this book to see if it could help me overcome some challenges that I'm facing. After reading the book and realizing that I am not just an introvert, but also highly sensitive, I felt like it was a key that has unlocked many questions from my past - why I reacted in certain ways, why I developed a certain phobia, how my personality was shaped, etc. The insight provided from this book is helping me create new habits to help regulate my stress levels and not become so easily overwhelmed. In sharing her journey, Benita provides us with key insights that I think many of us will find parallels in our own lives.

This book brings insight to life and marriage!
One of the greatest attractions to this book and it's author is the courage that she had to allow us to share the struggles, hardships, joy, pain, abuses and the great love that has evolved from the experiences in her life. The insight she has given to the reader through complete vulnerability of herself is a gift that can help everyone in life's journey. I am 60, my wife is 57 and we have 5 children. Our lives have been very difficult at times. We are still learning how to care and love for each other while trying not to let life's difficulties tear us apart. There's an abundance of wisdom and spiritual support in this book that will help us in our marriage and keep our hearts close to one another.

Wonderfully written and beautifully read!
I bought this book because the title was a perfect description of my wife and I thought that I might gain some helpful insight and tools that I could offer her. It accomplished this and much more! It didn't take long before I realized she was talking about me too. This realization did wonders for helping me empathize even more with my wife and as a result has brought us closer. Benita does an incredible job sharing very personally from her own life which makes the learning feel more like a comfortable chat as opposed to a preachy self-help book. Thank You for tackling such an important and nuanced subject!

If you only listen to one book this year...
While I haven't finished the audiobook yet – I'm about halfway through – it's already very inspiring and uplifting. I found myself sobbing and cheering at various times while driving to and from the mountains this weekend. It's also incredibly shocking how I see many similarities in my own life as Benita tells of the various aspects of her own.
The Gifted Highly Sensitive Introvert is an amazing, well-articulated journey of life and the pursuit of true self-fulfillment. Most audio books where the author reads their own work feel as though the author has a sense of passion in the words they read and this book is no different! Benita shares several stories, some painful and some joyous, illustrating the importance of seeking out the wisdom of your Authentic Self and how the gifts of the Highly Sensitive Introvert need not be suppressed in order to find comfort and peace. I recommend this book, in any format, to anyone curious about how being a highly sensitive introvert can lead to an interesting journey and a truly wonderful legacy.

Healing, validating and life changing!!
I have been on a journey to wholeness most of my life. Books, therapy, medication, 12 steps, exercise, vitamins and so much more. All of these have helped me on my journey!! This audiobook is the ONE thing that has put all of it in one place and is invaluable to my healing. I cannot praise it and Benita enough!! It has been life changing and given me hope. She truly has experienced my life. Chapters 3,4 and 5 describe our strengths, struggles, what our authentic selves mean and the joys and gifts of being an empath. Benita integrates mind, body and spirit together on our hero's journey. She's been there. She's validated who I am especially the darkness in me. This alone has healed me!! We are who we are. Her healing begins with accepting all our feelings, emotions, relationships, and pasta and gives us hope and a new way of life that brings joy!! This audio book is THE turning point for me and I am forever blessed she has shared her life so mine will be better!!!

This is a light to finding yourself
I have just recently begun my Hero's Journey with the awareness of what I was actually doing. Before I was stumbling down a path, stopping, looking around and wondering why I struggled so to move forward. I know now that my self-esteem had taken a beating due to circumstances in my adult life. I had a hard time setting boundaries to help keep my emotional self safe. I feel that this book offers insights into how our choices (and also other peoples choices in relation to us) can shape our existence. There is no judgement in this book...only understanding that everyone's journey is personal and that hopefully there is something you can take from it to help in your personal journey.
I admit I have only just begun reading/listening to this book (I have both the softcover copy and the audible version), but I am finding so much of myself in these pages. I have read several chapters...not in order...and I can find valuable "nuggets" in each of those chapters.
I commend Ms. Esposito for having the courage to boldly tell her story of her Journey or journeys as the case may be, in order to help those of us who fall into the category of GHSI. I never even realized such a description existed before finding this book. I am looking forward to exploring more of the Heros Journey and understanding GHSI even more.
Speaking to the audible version of this book...I quite enjoy the rhythm and gentleness of the speaker's voice. The emotion comes through beautifully in the audible version.

Prepare for some tears and deep insights into your inner world. How lovely to feel understood! Disappointing
I abandoned this book half way through - something I rarely do. The opening chapters are mostly self congratulatory waffle, followed by sugary promises of wisdom and healing to come. What actually follows is a book mostly comprised of the author’s personal anecdotes. Ultimately the book was off-topic and unhelpful.

You will feel understood...FINALLY!
This book is so amazing in so many ways and I'm only a quarter of the way through. If you're highly sensitive you will probably feel more understood reading/listening to these words more than you have your whole life! Finally you can put a name to what and how you feel. If you're like me you've known for a while that you're different from other people, but have felt a lot of confusion and shame around it without understanding exactly what makes you wired differently to other people. This book will definitely give you peace in being able to bring to the surface what life is like for sensitive introverts (and empaths) and explore yourself so that you can accept yourself fully and see how you are not as a hindrance but as a gift that humanity needs at this time. If you're reading this post and identify with these words I would highly recommend you purchase this book. I'm definitely no newbie to self improvement books but this one stands out from the rest and brings together a lot of other concepts I've read previously such as Joseph Campbells 'The hero's journey' and attachment styles whilst applying it (for the first time that I've come across) within the context of the day to day life and struggles of highly sensitive introverts and empaths.

A journey of hope!
Many of us feel at one time or another that no one really understands us. If you have ever really felt this way and felt that you are so different from everyone else then this book is for you. If you’ve ever been told that you are just too sensitive and to “just get over it” then this book is for you. If you have ever felt you can’t “just get over it” then this book is for you. If you’ve ever felt that you don’t really know who you are then this book is for you!
On listening to this book I felt that at last someone understood me - that there was someone else who had the same struggles and difficulties that I had. It felt that the author described my life!
In a beautiful, compassionate, personal and welcoming style the author invites the listener to share her journey and travel with her.
The hero’s journey moves in stages – each stage building on what went before so it’s best to listen to each chapter in order. In every chapter I found something to “take away” – something that really resonated with me. At the end of each chapter there are reflections – questions and challenges for the listener so that they can take the journey for themselves or so that they can delve more deeply into their inner being. I found them challenging and thought provoking and practical and very helpful. Each chapter had me wanting to listen to more to find out what the next stage was.
It’s a journey of discovery - there is a purpose and there is a goal – to find your authentic self and live life as the real you. To find out - who you really are and to accept who you really are and to live as who you really are.
But above all it is a journey of hope –hope that someone has gone through the valley and come through to the other side. The author shares with great insight, honesty and personal experience her journey to encourage and to equip others. I highly recommend this book – change is possible as Benita Esposito so beautifully and carefully explains. This book has given me courage to start – and continue - my journey!
