Loved the book!

The book was filled with heart wrenching moments that made you feel all the emotion the characters felt at that moment. This was better than any murder mystery show I have ever seen. On the downside, the beginning was pretty slow you have to reach at lets page fifty before hating on the book, I didn't find anything else that made bored, but overall The Girl I Used To Be kept me on the edge of my set and even made me cry!

Great narration elevates average story.

3.5 STARS

At age three, Ariel witnesses her mother’s murder, allegedly at the hands of her father. Fourteen years later an emancipated minor, her name now Olivia, her father’s bones are discovered at the murder site. The police now realize he was murdered that same snowy day. Though she has no memories of the day, Olivia returns to her home town to figure out who murdered her parents.

April Henry’s books are fun to read, though not especially memorable. I’m always happy when Kindle has them available for $2.99 or less. THE GIRL I USED TO BE was a fast pace, engaging read. Olivia, both sympathetic and likable, had no shortage of suspects amongst her parents’ young friends, old lovers and former classmates. Henry could have scripted a believable conclusion with any of them.

The whodunit answer was the weakest part of THE GIRL I USED TO BE, but didn’t feel like a letdown. Olivia/Ariel’s journey was the real story.

THE GIRL I USED TO BE is a fun read, though not a book I’ll reread.

Couldn't stop listening!

First off the narrator Amy McFadden did an excellent job with the MC & other characters as well. I could listen to her every day and never get tired of her voice!

As far as the story goes, I really loved how it all came together. I guessed at who was responsible for the deaths of her parents towards the end and guessed correctly. While that would normally bug me, it was so well written that I was just as pleased as I would've been if I hadn't guessed correctly to be honest. I don't wanna give it away but I will say that it's not exactly who you'd think it was at first! I listened to it all in one go-- couldn't put it down! I'll definitely be looking for more books by April Henry!

Predictable and boring

There was absolutely nothing Id recommend here, it read like a book written by a highschooler. Super flat and one dimensional.

O! M! G! Yes!!!

I have always loved April Henry‘s books, and this one is no exception. I love the whole premise for the story. I also love Amy McFadden as the narrator for the story. I think she was perfect for it. I loved Olivia/Ariel as the main protagonist, and all in all this was an amazing book. It had the perfect blend of murder mystery, thriller, suspense, and just the tiniest hint of romance. It had a little bit of everything that you would expect in a book like this.

It was ok.

This story had a slow beginning in my opinion but steady plot sequence. It’s a good in between book. I wanted to something different from what normally read or listen to and this was good choice. Also, it was short which was nice.
