Publisher's Summary

What was my sister doing standing over Florence’s cot in the middle of the night?

I trust my sister, Carrie, with my daughter’s life.

But then she’s accused of a terrible crime.

Carrie lives under our roof, she pushes my daughter on the swings, she takes her out for ice cream.

You might ask, why do I let her? Why would I risk my darling baby? How could I let my sister stay?

Because I have a dangerous secret, too. One that only Carrie knows about. And if that secret gets out, I could lose my little girl....

A completely gripping rollercoaster of a listen about the darkness families hide behind closed doors. Fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train will be hooked on The Girl She Wanted.

Very good. Clean.

I love KL slater’s writing.she writes people so perfectly. The only thing i didn’t love about this book was that it took a little too long to get into the suspense and intricacies of the plot. At first it seemed it was a simple “did she or didn’t she and how is this couple going to get past this. Eventually Slater’s craft showed itself as the reader develops more questions and more mysteries unfold. Be patient and you will enjoy this story. If you like stories to wrap up nicely at the end you’ll like this because Slater does not end the story abruptly as many authors do these days. You get closure on all of the characters and story lines. Perhaps a little too much time at the end doing this, but nice nonetheless. Looking forward to her next book.

Well Done!

The new KL Slater was of course, listened to voraciously in one night by yours truly. A fan of her work, I find most of her audiobooks impossible to stop listening to. This was no exception.

Wife and husband have one year old baby. Wife's sister is outstaying her welcome as a guest of the household. Wife's sister seems to be in a whole lot of trouble. And things aren't looking up for her at all.

KL Slater is maturing as a writer. If you read her newer books, you'll find a lot more character development, and many more facets to the mystery. The twists are surprising and the characters are likable. The only criticism I have is that she lets the story drag on too long. There are too many chapters in 'The Girl She Wanted' which have been written after the denouement. However, it's a very enjoyable book nonetheless.

Great stuff!

Annoying and Stupid

NO SPOILERS!

This book started off quite good but it quickly went downhill. The main character was such a moron. She just carries on her head throughout the book with repetitive statements. I’m not a fan of books with tons of introspection. The other characters were not very fleshed out either.

This book could have been great but instead it’s just an annoying drama and too predictable.

Thought relationship with my sister was complicated…

Not going to give anything away, but firstly, what an amazingly unique, complicated, crazy yet somewhat relatable storyline. On one hand, I can empathize with her struggle to see or believe anything unhinged about her sister, but on the other hand, as a mother I cringed at the decision making. Regardless of the outcome, early on, it’s clear that both of these girls need some help, but is her sister guilty??

There were several fantastic qualities to this book, but the storyline was somewhat far-fetched and sometimes felt a little “patch worked”.

Loved it.

I only read this book because of the reviews I had seen when searching for a new style of book to read. I’m happy to report it was a great book and I would highly recommend it. With one of the main characters being a nurse, which I didn’t know until reading the book, and being a nurse myself I had an impossible impulse to keep reading and reading and reading making it so hard for me to not just read this book at one sitting. I had to find out the end. I never once even had a clue of what was coming.

One of my favorites.

I really enjoyed The Girl She Wanted.
The way the characters are woven intricately into each others lives is quite masterful. I had this title on my phone, so every time I would get in my car it would play(through Bluetooth on my car sound system) another chapter. I found myself so enthralled with this book, that when I would reach my destination and I couldn’t get out of the car! I would have to stay and listen until I found out what was happening next!

just ok

Slow starter then got a bit interesting but dropped pace again. I wouldnt call it in any way a thriller ... more like a family drama. i wouldnt recommend this book if you ste expecting anything other than a story of an unhappy couple, a sad sister in law over-staying her welcome and a baby. Oh and 2 patients in hospital die.

Easy Domestic Thriller

Easy to follow, pleasant, domestic thriller, told from the perspective of a young mother. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The downside being perhaps that it lacks dramatic twists-and-turns all the way through and the ending is not so satisfying. . . . . . . . . Her older sister is a nurse, and is under investigation for the deaths of two patients at the hospital where she works. The suspense is built around whether the older sister be trusted to be living in same house as the younger sister's one-year-old baby. In my view, quite a good book, but K L Slater has written better. The reading by Kristin Atherton however, is top notch.

Boring

Kind of seemed like it might be an ok story until it wrapped up in the most boring and predictable way super quickly. Almost like the author had hit her word count so basically just said ‘the end’.
