Publisher's Summary

June Moody, a 30-something English professor, just wants to get away from her recent breakup and reunite with girlfriends over summer break. Her old friend and longtime nemesis Sadie MacTavish, a mega-successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower at her sprawling estate in the San Juan Islands. June is less than thrilled to spend time with Sadie and her husband - June's former crush - but agrees to go.

The party gets off to a shaky start when old grudges resurface, but when they wake the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is in shambles, and bloodstains mar the staircase. None of them has any memory of the night before; they wonder if they were drugged. Everyone's a suspect. Since June had a secret rendezvous with Sadie's husband, she has plenty of reason to suspect herself. Apparently, so do the cops.

A Celtic knot of suspense and surprise, this brooding, atmospheric novel will keep you guessing as each twist reveals a new possibility. It will remind you of friendships hidden in the depths of your own past and will make you wonder how well you really know the people you've loved the longest.

Save yourself the pain and skip

This book was just awful. The characters were all annoying and childish. The book is catered for the very simple minded. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen and it never did. It was a painful listen. I don’t know who wrote the reviews giving this book any type of praise but trust me you want to skip this title.

Excellent

This book was such a totally pleasant surprise. I was expecting the typical shallowness that comes with “girls weekend” as a premise. I was delighted to see that the characters are all very well developed and the main character is totally relatable and easy to sort of root for. The setting worked well also, I found myself googling the bridge and Desolation Pass because I was just so intrigued. There is a tension that this author ratchets up so beautifully. I didn’t want this one to end. Loved the place and the people, and finished this book in two takes.
Highly recommend.

Glad I Chose This One

Really enjoyed the main character and the setting for the story. It's not quite as "scary," but if you enjoy how Riley Sager writes, I think you will enjoy this a lot. It wasn't the most original or groundbreaking story, but it had a good number of twists and turns. Overall, it was great escape from the current COVID-life.

The narration was great! (Although she probably wont win any awards for her Scottish accent). ;-) I would gladly listen to her read another novel.

LOVED THIS BOOK & Couldn't stop listening

This book had me the entire time! The author and plot are clever and the reader did really well, especially distinguishing the voices. I'm excited for her next book!

Too Immature To Be Believable

None of these characters resonated with me. They all read like a set of emotionally stunted wannabe college brats who never got over "the good old days" which is laughable considering the age range of the characters. I can't relate to normalizing drug use (and that's saying something considering that I remember the 60's and 70's vividly and perhaps that's why I know better). Furthermore, the virtue signaling and preachy tones of social justice turned me off. The nearly monotone and lethargic narration didn't help either. Unfortunate waste of a credit. Lesson learned.

Remedial, and Redundant

This book was not for me, it felt immature, and remedial, the twist was dumb,
It was just revealed, and pretty much laughable.
The author kept using the same verbiage throughout the book as well... like she was proud of the big words.
I will not finish this one.

Terrible

I'm one of those people who almost always finishes a book even if I'm not that crazy about it. However, this book was so terrible, I abandoned it at Chapter 16 with 2 chapters left. The plot itself is dull and boring, and the characters are shallow stereotypes who act like they are in middle school. What a waste of time!

Really enjoyed it and was hooked!

Narrator AMAZING! Done a brilliant job!💯😁 couldnt stop listening till I found out what happened?! Kept me hooked right up till about the end and i kind of lost interest in it when i knew what was happening. Like i said tho i did really enjoy it throughout so it was def worth a read and it’s probably just me that lost interest and nothing to do with the book. Thank you audible once again for a fab read!😁♥️Xxx
