Publisher's Summary

Kate

I'm the last mermaid.

I'm back on shores of Lake Erie, but the cold waters are silent. There is nothing here for me but ghosts and the beach glass that litters the rocky shore. Long ago, I lived below the waves. Now, I am the sole survivor, and at long last, my mermaid glamour is leaving me.

Every day, I walk the beach. Every day, I wonder what happened to my people. The little pieces of colored glass that wash ashore give me simple pleasure. They are gifts from the lake, reminders of home. I fashion them into trinkets: necklaces, earrings, bracelets. They are beautiful things. The humans seem to love them.

Every day, I walk the beach. Nothing ever changes, until the day he says hello.

Cooper

I'm dying.

It's not a question; it's a fact. The cancer is eating me alive. They told me I have six months to live, maybe less. I came home, back to Chancellor on Lake Erie, to die. The sunsets are vivid there, and I will relish every one.

I've never seen anything more beautiful than a Lake Erie sunset, until I see her.

All life is as fragile as glass.

What would you sacrifice to save the one you love?

What a Great "Tail!!"

This is the first of 3 short stories that take place in a magical little town. I had gotten books 2 and then 3 a couple of years ago, and they can be stand-alones, but I'm now going to re-listen in order because I had forgotten just how fun they are. On the plus side, there now is a box set of the 3 stories for one credit which makes them more affordable than before. I usually am a full-length novel kind of listener, but sometimes, you just know you're only going to have a bit of time or want something light after an angsty listen, and these are perfect for those times.

I'm a "late" reviewer, and you have plenty of others to give you the story outline, so I won't be redundant. These are all sweet, fairie tale-ish romances with the right amount of conflict and HEA for a long commute or a household chore that you want to escape from while still taking care of business. Well-written and perfectly narrated. Love them!

Different . . . Engaging and Delightful

The Glass Mermaid is a departure for me . . . not the genre that I would usually be drawn to . . . but something about it caught my attention . . . I am a lover of the old, old fairy tales, Grimm Brothers and the like . . . I can't say what exactly makes this story work, but it does . . . its not smutty, its not overdone, and its just long enough . . . my only criticism is Cooper's voice . . . which is not good . . . otherwise the performance would have been stellar . . . I suppose we all dream of a bit of the ethereal . . . you will find it here in The Glass Mermaid . . . and it definitely meets my criteria of an ending that is worth the wait . . .

Breathtaking!

This was a beautiful story. I found it captivating, emotional, and magical, yes magical. Author Poppy Lawless has written a wonderful story. I would LOVE to see her turn this one into a nice long series because it's made to be more than this, a short story. I wished it had been longer because I feel like it's calling out to me, wanting me to listen to it again.

Hollie Jackson did a wonderful job with her telling of this story. I felt a connection to the two main characters as Hollie told the story. Once again, with every story that I hear Hollie narrate she blows me away. I can feel emotions in her voice as she breathes life into every story she narrates. Overall, a 5 star rating!

beautifully sweet story

STORY REVIEW......

This was an amazingly sweet beautiful story. I was really happy with how the story ended. If I was to complain about it in anyway it would be that I wished it was longer. It would have been nice to learn more about her people.

AUDIO REVIEW......

I found the narrator to be very good at reading the book as well as giving the characters life and voice.

Loved this cute little short story

I loved this wholesome, cute, short story. Poppy caught me in the first sentence. She does a great job of creating a wholesome story with very real characters. Even though there was a mermaid involved. The romance didn't seem forced. Everything just clicked in to place. Poppy did a great job of creating a very real story and Hollie did a great job of narrating and making each individual unique.

Sweet and touching

Would you listen to The Glass Mermaid again? Why?

Sure I'd listen to it again. It was well written. I enjoyed the characters and the whole storyline.

Which character – as performed by Hollie Jackson – was your favorite?

Ms. Jackson's performance was interesting. The rhythm of the piece was different...not bad, but different. She was articulate and I could differentiate the characters.

Beautiful

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook- it was poetic and moving. I was even a little tearful at the end - definitely a powerful tale. Highly recommended.
