Publisher's Summary

Harness the Power of the Dark Goddesses.

Across the world, there are stories and myths of dark goddesses who haunt the forests and dwell in our dreams. Goddesses who lurk in the shadows. Even in their own mythology, these goddesses have been shunned, used as examples of what women should not be.

Just as each culture has a Shadow, so, too, does each person.

It is into our Shadows that we push our unwanted desires, our forgotten skills, our traumas, and the personal energy that we’ve been taught we must not show.

In The Goddess in the Shadow, you’ll learn the mythology behind 10 dark goddesses, and discover how each dark goddess represents aspects of your own shadow, and how each can teach you valuable life lessons.

Including:

  • Lilith - how to break free of your chains
  • The Morrigan - how to transform your life
  • Hecate - how to stay safe in the darkness
  • Sedna - how to deal with betrayal
  • Oya - how to clear away what is no longer needed
  • Kali - how to handle your inner demons
  • Baba Yaga - how to trust your intuition
  • Persephone - how to move between the dark and the light
  • Hathor - how to release your inhibitions
  • Pelé - how to release your rage

You’ll also learn how to harness the divine feminine energy of the goddesses to heal your own shadow, and bring energy and vitality into your life.

A good general intro

Overall, this was a good intro to dark goddesses. The audiobook was well presented. I am, however, a little concerned that parts of the book might infringe on closed practices especially with the rituals for Oya. Although, I am admittedly new to dark goddess lore and might be mistaken.

A nice exploration of the shadow

Through the lesser known "dark" goddesses.

This is a pretty quick read, another walk through shadow work; but through the exploration of 10 goddesses that you might have heard of, but unless they relate to your personal practice, heritage, or area of study, you've never had the chance to look into further.

Interesting but problematic

On the surface this book is a good offering. I mean who doesn't want the power of a goddess or a god to overcome difficulties in life? Having a balanced view of deity is as important as having a balanced view of life. Deity is light and twilight and dark. Deity is female and male and non-gendered. Deity is engendering, growth, and death. The author is right about that. All of those things need to be explored, in ourselves as well as in whomever we focus our veneration.

That being said, appropriation is never a good look, and the taking of certain goddesses in this book and the use of them in ritual that have nothing to do with their original worship purely for your own use and edification, is spiritually disrespectful at best and spiritually dangerous at worst.

Hecate, Sedna, Oya, Kali, and Pele are goddesses from closed practices and you approach them a certain way within those practices. If you are not part of that culture or initiated into that practice you can put yourself in a very dangerous position with no ancestral cover.

"Cultural appropriation, spiritual appropriation is one of the the quickest, easiest and simplest, ways to cross, to hex, and to condemn yourself on a spiritual level." ~ LadySpeech Sankofa

You cannot bypass foundational spiritual work you need to do before you approach ANY spirit. To quote LadySpeech again, "If humans can cosplay other humans, spirits can cosplay other spirits...and what they will do is exploit you."

Be CAREFUL out here in these spiritual streets.

A Personal Magickal Journey Into Shadow Work

This book drew me in as soon as I saw the title. I love how it's written, each chapter exploring a different Goddess and taking you a journey which you can really experience if you allow yourself to connect. The author is clearly very knowledgeable but she does much more than relay historical insights, she really does invite you to take a personal journey with each Goddess. I love how the chapters seem to flow and follow on so beautifully from each other. A magical journey is how I would sum up this book. It has helped me heal.

So Good, You’ll want to take notes

I didn’t really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised with the content of this audio book and found myself taking notes as I listened to each story. The emotions that came up as I heard various stories caused me to pause and journal out some of my thoughts and feelings because as the author was indicating, those are glimpses at our shadows and opportunities to become more aware of them so that integration can take place. I really enjoyed the altar suggestions rituals and guided meditations that accompanied each goddesses story. This is an audiobook that I will continue to go back to pick various sections to listen to because it feels super empowering and helps me address aspects of trauma in a way that feels peaceful.

Interesting and thought provoking

I loved the audio book so much I bought the actual written book. Interesting and love the rituals you can do to work with each of the dark goddesses. This is an introduction to shadow work, it is written in an easy to understand way. Highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to explore this part of themselves but a little unsure of the idea of shadow self and dark goddesses.

Loved it

I was sent a copy in exchange for a review and in all honesty I feel this book was sent to me by the universe. I am really interested in dieties and especially the Goddesses slo was perfect for me. The book gives basic information on a number of dark Goddesses and rituals you can preform to work a long side them. I got book in audible format and listened to whole thing in under 24 hours. I will now return through book to make notes I can return to for when I want to do the rituals. I found book easy to listen too and recommend as a starting point for information on some of the dark Goddesses and shadow work. There were a few Goddesses that I had never heard of and will now research these more.Thank you for giving me the chance to listen and review for you.

Good stories but would like more

it was good but more goddesses and more rituals would have been even better. maybe some anecdotes of people who have worked with goddesses.
