Publisher's Summary

A rich, warm, intergenerational time-travel story for ages nine and up

Maya loves to cook with her grandmother - her Halmunee - to connect with the rich family history associated with each dish, a history Maya's mom would prefer stayed in the past. While cooking with Halmunee, something remarkable happens - the food creates such a strong memory that Maya and Halmunee are transported back in time through the memory itself. Halmunee explains that the women in her family have the gift of time travel through food and Maya can do it too, if she practices. While eating her way through the past, Maya meets Jeff: another young time traveler who brings her to the Golden Orchard, a garden of memories filled with the trees of so many people's lives. Maya learns that time moves in ways she couldn't imagine and sometimes family keep their memories secret to protect the ones they love.

Joyce Gassman

This is a book/subject I would not normally read. I found myself drawn into a plot that had unexpected twists. It was fascinating following Maya’s life. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Korean culture and food. I’m anxious to try the food mentioned in this book. I’m not the target audience- being a 61 year old woman, but I think this book can be enjoyed by any age. I hope there will be more!

Delicious!

Oh, wow! What an innovative take on time travel! This is a beautiful story and filled with delicious descriptions of Korean food. There is a twist I never saw coming! Great for kids and family time (or, honestly, for adults who like good stories).

Beautiful and delightful!

THE GOLDEN ORCHARD is for kids age 9 and older. I'm 67 years beyond age 9 but I loved it maybe because I'm in my second childhood. This novel has two interesting foci: (1) Korean food in the Korean-American community and (2) time travel into the past (but not the future). The plot/story, the writing and the narration are superb.

One of the BEST reads (listens?) on audible! I would love to see a part 2

I didn’t have high expectations because 1) it was an audible original and they can generally be pretty lukewarm or a complete miss. Also the description said 9 years and up which I noticed after I started the first chapter of the book so I was concerned that it would be geared more towards tweens.

Great book for adults wanting a nice clean and engaging story. Even a great family friendly book to read together. Excellent writing, excellent story, loved the twists, and the narrator did an awesome job, I found myself even attempting to pronounce some of the Korean dishes mentioned in the story. I really hope the author does a part 2.

Pleasant tale with flavor.

Perfect for when you want fiction that is positive, light but not is not trite.

Good modern Korean Fable

Time travel, mother daughter angst, and American Korean culture combine to make a heartbreaking and heartwarming story.

Intriguing time travel book with a focus on family

Good book that was free on audible about time travel (mostly to the past), memories, family (including Korean relatives and understanding what they have been through) and (mostly Korean) food. It's quite intriguing. Loved the idea of the golden orchard but felt it could have been developed more. It does feel aimed at older children, but I enjoyed it as an adult.
Narration was very good.
