  • Summary

  • The Graham Norton Book Club is back.

We’re still all about the stories – reading them, writing then, listening to them, talking about them - and in our new series we’re featuring some of the world’s best storytellers including Margaret Atwood, Matt Haig, Walter Mosley, Lisa Taddeo and Val McDermid.

We’ll also hear from the famous voices behind some of the best audio books around (try Dave Grohl, Miriam Margolyes, Derren Brown and David Sedaris for starters) while, of course, each time our brilliant band of clubbers hotly debate the merits of our book of the week. All this plus news, reviews and recommendations on what to read or listen to next.

Come and join the Club. You’re very welcome.

In 1982, Isabel Allende’s novel, The House of the Spirits, shot her to fame and acclaim as one of the world’s finest exponents of magic realism. She talks to Graham about that – her first novel - and her latest, Violeta, out in January – 40 years on.

Our clubbers discuss whether the book lifted their spirits, and I May Destroy You star, Weruche Opia, reveals why she loves voicing audio books so much. Plus, Sara Collins has some advice on the best books to fill a stocking.

We’d like to thank Audible Limited for the use of the extract from Descendants of the First by Reni K Amayo.

When Three Women came out in 2019, it became a publishing sensation with its ground-breaking storytelling style and its frank exploration of female desire and the gender power-balance. Graham talks to its author, Lisa Taddeo, about how the book came about and finds out if it hit the spot for our clubbers. Alex Clark matches ‘three women’ with three men – fascinating male characters from fiction – and actress (and national treasure), Penelope Keith, reveals how she brings detective, Agatha Raisin, to life.

Our book of the week is Homegoing, Yaa Gyasi’s brilliant debut novel that follows the descendants of two sisters from 18th century Ghana to millennial California. Yaa tells Graham about creating such an extraordinary journey and our clubbers discuss how they felt about undertaking it. Sara Collins highlights three other books that powerfully take on the topic of slavery and Booker Prize winner, Bernardine Evaristo, talks about speaking her truth in Manifesto.

So great

Graham Norton is such a talented interviewer. I’d tune in even if he were talking to a brick wall.

More Sedaris less grammatically challenged Michelle Zauner

Love nearly everything David Sedaris, and love Graham Norton. Cannot take any author seriously who persists in saying “between my mother and I.” Had to fast forward, heard snippets of the dialogue, and it was as excruciating as she was.

I am delighted that Graham Norton's book club is b

What a delight to have the second series of the brilliant Graham Norton book club. I discovered so many new books and authors that I have since purchased and look forward to discovering more in this new series. Graham is relaxed, witty and knowledgeable, reviewers are diverse and interesting and the insight from the authors is fascinating. A great format, well done and thank you.

Love you Graham

I enjoy this podcast so much - it’s really refreshing to hear a group of people honestly dissect a recent book, whether or not they enjoyed it, when many other podcasts are too in thrall to the author to be able to give any genuine critiques (which is no fun for the listener!) Graham is charming as ever and Sara Collins’ input is always interesting and funny too.

a wonderful find

I stumbled across this just as the second series was about to start.
Not only is this a wonderful listen; Norton is hugely entertaining and his love of reading shines through, but the books covered are great.
Yes, I have read or listened to several of the Clubbers' choices.

Great podcast to inspire your reading

Very inspiring podcast. A very good mix of readers who all bring their own tastes to the club. All opinions and experiences of regular books and audiobooks are valid and valued, and had a giggle about of course.

Here's Hoping for Series 3

I love both series and it has led me to several books I wouldn't have read or listened to otherwise or even have heard of. The format works really well with club members giving honest opinions positive and negative. I really hope there will be further series in the future

Omg omg omg! Matt Haig!!!!

I know I’m not the only fan of Matt Haig novels and self-help books, but how cool is this?! To get to hear him talk about his book “The Midnight Library”! Best book I’ve ever read hands down! “The Humans” following very close. Brilliant writer!!!! Huge fan!!! Thanks Graham!
