If you love Bridgerton, you'll love Georgette Heyer!

The charming Sophia Stanton-Lacy is a force to be reckoned with.

When Sophy is sent to stay with her London relatives, she finds her cousins in quite the tangle.

Cecilia is besotted with an attractive but feather-brained poet, Hubert has fallen foul of a money-lender and the ruthlessly handsome Charles is engaged to a pedantic bluestocking who seems to bring out the worst in him....

Fortunately, Sophy has arrived just in time to sort them all out - but Charles is eager to rid his family of her meddlesome ways. Has the grand Sophy finally met her match?

Critic Reviews

"A rollicking good read that will be of particular joy to Bridgerton viewers...the permanent glister of scandal [...] ties the whole thing together." (Independent)

"One of my perennial comfort authors. Heyer's books are as incisively witty and quietly subversive as any of Jane Austen's." (Joanne Harris)

"Absolutely delicious tales of Regency heroes. Utter, immersive escapism." (Sophie Kinsella)

Delightful

I laughed out loud often. A lot of fun. Sophy sure is a forthright no holds barred woman. Narrator wonderful.

Great story but some key pronunciations need work

A few significant mispronunciations, especially Phaeton (she used something close to the USA version which does not sound right at all, it even has an extra syllable!), a pity as it occurs several times in a single chapter and jolted me every time. This seems to be a common issue with Audible and Georgette Heyer books - a English accent but USA words which are completely wrong.

Disappointing narration of a delightful comedy

The Grand Sophy is a bubbling comedy and one of my favourites among Georgette Heyer's books. The heroine, Sophy, in particular, has a strong sense of fun. It's read competently by Louise Jameson, but I do miss Phyllida Nash's lightness of touch.

Engaging story, unfortunate narration

Very enjoyable Heyer romance, full of wonderful Regency detail, sophisticated language and a gloriously independent heroine. Sadly ruined by poor narration - words mispronounced or oddly accentuated, and the actor's general voice / accent unsuited to the world of Almacs and debutantes. It deserves to be recorded again.

A sparkling romantic comedy

One of my favourite Georgette Heyer's delightfully narrated by Louise Jameson. Sophy is a grand heroine who twists every character around her little finger and all for their own good.

Excellent and Enjoyable

Excellent narration by Louise Jameson, her different voices were authentic and the narrative blended well with the voices. This is one of my favourite Georgette Heyer novels

Lovely paced story, thoroughly enjoyable. Narrator OK but not my favourite when it comes to reading Heyer

One of Heyer’s best

This is one of my favourite Georgette Heyer books, very nicely read by Louise Jameson. Full of sparkling dialogue and lots of humorous touches. It gets off to a slow start but once Sophy arrives the pace does not slacken to the end. A delight.

Utterly delicious

I read Ms Heyer like a mad thing in my early teens then became immensely snooty about her as I discovered the Russians, the Americans, Science Fiction, Dickens , Pratchett and so called proper writers. I would foam at the mouth at the phrase ‘Frothy Regency Romance’ and it has taken over half a century and an article by the esteemed Stephan Fry to wake up to her truly excellent prose, her delicious re-use of the colourful vocabulary of the time, we could well resurrect lots of it…. ‘Don’t make such an appalling cake of yourself’…..to bring me back into the fold. There’s bags of interesting history within, the characters are not remotely two dimensional and the bad guy, in this case a bad gal, is so slimy your teeth will ache with the desire to smack her smug face. Sophy is terrific and Louise Jameson does her and Ms Heyer proud. Get over the soppy covers of the books and enjoy a rattlin good entertainment.

Voices?

It is not often I fail to finish a novel of this genre. Having had many audio and readable books over the last 10 months I have never heard such a cringeworthy set of character voices. I switched it off after 5 minutes which was too long.
