Publisher's Summary

The Great War of Our Time offers an unprecedented assessment of the CIA while at the forefront of our nation's war against al-Qa'ida and during the most remarkable period in the history of the agency. Called the "Bob Gates of his generation", Michael Morell is a top CIA officer who saw it all - the only person with President Bush on 9/11/01 and with President Obama on 5/1/11, when Usama Bin Laden was brought to justice. Like Ghost Wars, See No Evil, and At the Center of the Storm, The Great War of Our Time is a vivid, newsmaking account of the CIA, a life of secrets, and a war in the shadows.

You gotta listen to this

I am not a politically savvy person. My opinion of contemporary news and politics is usually shaped by programs like the Colbert report and the Daily show. Prior to listening to this book, I felt confused about many issues such as how much should we be afraid of an attack on US by al-Qaeda, how political/corrupted were the leaders of intelligence community and how can we trust them and their motives after what happened in Iraq. This book answered those questions and many others. I elect to believe the author's statements (as of now, I have no reason not to) and as a result I have become significantly more confident in US government and CIA's mission to protect our citizens. This was a great read that provided both a history of war against terrorism and a knowledge of working of the CIA and its relationship to congress and the president.

Fascinating Insider Insights Into The Biggest National Security Stories Of Our Time

You could read this just for a blow by blow of how those controversial Benghazi talking points came about. But you'll also learn the inside scoop on 9-11, the intelligence lead up to the Iraq war, the Bin Laden mission and every other story that has dominated the news for the last 30 years. Was Snowden a hero or a traitor? The facts speak for themselves.

A non-political view and insight on the war on terrorism.

I really enjoyed this book. It presents an apolitical view of the terrorist events and the war we have been fighting this quarter century. He has debunked the political and media views on the intelligence we had on WMDs and Benghazi showing how the presidents came to make the decisions they made. I have gained new found respect for both President Bush and President Obama. The book talks in great detail on how we gather intelligence. What we gather and how that intelligence is used. A great book if you want to no how our intelligence organizations work.

This book deserves more than 5 stars

Morell gives extraordinary insight into the information and analysis provided to Presidents and to Congress.

After finishing this audiobook, I have a much better understanding of current global events and a much deeper appreciation for the intelligence officers who are working around the clock, around the world.

Could have been a great book

Author should have waited before writing this. He is to close to the material, a lot got cut by editors and the holes are not well stitched. Mr Morelll needs to rewrite this into a eight volume history of his life and times with. "Da Company". He has a lot to say. Needs a really good editor.

Excellent and I will listen to it a 2nd time. It gives a personal and historical perspective. It isn't political at all and very informative.

History revealed!

Morrell offers the unique perspective of in the moment revelations and clears the debris from excitable mediocrity and news organizations who rush for headlines and ratings. Michaels account of his experience as a lifelong employee of the CIA was eye opening and refreshing. Not that you'll ever read this but a personal Thanks to you, Michael, for having the courage the share a narrative of truth!

Vision of the CIA

This book reveals many of the inner workings and mission of the CIA. That is to protect our country and all of US citizens. It covers the Usama Bin Laden operation as well as the 911 action by terrorists and our response to those actions. I seldom listen to a book more than once but had to listen to this one a second time.
