Celehar's life as the Witness for the Dead of Amalo grows less isolated as his circle of friends grows larger. He has been given an apprentice to teach, and he has stumbled over a scandal of the city—the foundling girls. Orphans with no family to claim them and no funds to buy an apprenticeship. Foundling boys go to the Prelacies; foundling girls are sold into service, or worse. At once touching and shattering, Celehar's witnessing for one of these girls will lead him into the depths of his own losses. The love of his friends will lead him out again.

moving and diverting

Delicate, thoughtful, kind. I love hearing about Thara Celehar's Amalo and his growing web of connections there. The read is fantastic, hitting all the right emotional notes.

An apprentice!

More about our favourite Prelate of Ulis and a Witness for the Dead. Thara Celehar - now he has an apprentice which is fabulous. Yet, we are left wondering about what will become of him - we are left wanting more! Good writing and such a great narrator - he breathes life into Thara and all the characters. I still struggle with listening to the books only because of the names /titles used - it can get confusing so probably better to read the book and then listen.
