Publisher's Summary

Originally published in 1994, this book was a fly-fishing phenomenon in the way Howell Raines' Fly Fishing Through the Mid-Life Crisis was. Taking his fishing hobby to near metaphysical levels, Ted Leeson tells about his passions: rivers, trout, and fly fishing. With wry humor and rare insight, he explores questions that engage most fishermen: What is it about rivers that draws us so irresistibly, and why does fly fishing seem such an aptly suited response? Above all, The Habit of Rivers is about ways of seeing the wonderfully textured world that emanates from a river.

Greatest Book I've Ever Listened To.

Honestly, this is the greatest and most moving book I've ever listened to. It brought back so many memories of my grandfather that upon finishing it tonight I cried. I cried like a bitch. I hope you purchase this audiobooks and listen to it and take in what is said. This book is legitimately deep in meaning and I understand the author completely.

Thank You

Thank you to the authors for putting into words what I can only feel. I think people often wonder why I fish so much and with this book I have some way to answer that is far more elegant then what I can put forth.

Awesome

This book hits home with ANY dedicated fly fisherman/woman.

No one could possible describe into words our passion as he has.

Despite its indisputable literary merits, quite tedious

Maybe because I don’t enjoy fishing, I found the book tedious albeit its literary quality is outstanding.

A great listen…

Robertson does a tremendous job of unpacking the joy of fly fishing and connecting with nature through the moving water of a river. I enjoyed it.

meh

First of all, this is art... but not my kind of art. It was like a love story that must be very meaningful to the one who wrote it and maybe to the one it was about but not integrating to me. I don't want to discourage others who wish to write about fly fishing as there are not enough books out there on this subject, but was hoping for something more.

Way better than I first made it out to be

A fantastic meditation on nature and the fisherman in it. A fascination that increased until the ending.

Not for me

I thought I was going to love it but it feels so pompous and preachy. Would not recommend.

A wonderful description of the essence of angling

Ted Leeson describes the reasons why we go trout fishing better than anyone else I have ever read, even John Gierach! A total joy.

Wonderful Fly Fishing Read

Simply, superb! The quality of this work should stand head and shoulders up there with mainstream literary prowess, but for the niche topic of fly fishing...

I feel very fortunate that our pastime has been graced with such a work of genius..
