Publisher's Summary

Amid the sweet sounds of a music box, their darkest fears will haunt them.... In Black River, Tennessee, everyone knows the legend of the Bell Witch...and the alleged curse that hangs like a dark shroud over the town. To some, it is just a local tall tale. But to others, it is terrifyingly real.

For centuries, four families have been forced into the ritualistic tradition of sacrifice and terror. Every year, a member of each family stumbles upon an antique music box they need to lock before the time is up. And a horrible fate awaits them once the boxes open.

Trapped in the witch’s sadistic game, the families’ young offspring are forced to journey into the dark and twisted woods of Black River in search for the keys to their salvation. But as they search for a way to end the curse, a haunting melody echoes through the trees. And each lost soul must wonder....

Will they survive the night? Or will the Bell Witch’s bloody harvest claim more victims?

A must read/listen

I read this when it first came out and absolutely loved the story and the characters. Now that it is out on audiobook I get to love it while multitasking! I just finished listening to it, the narrator did a fantastic job. If you like a bit of mystery/suspense tied in with ghosts and demons this is the book for you. I wouldn’t say it is scary but it gets you thinking about which of your fears the undead would send after you in the witch woods!

Would definitely recommend, I’ve read the three books that are currently out in the series and will say, you won’t want to stop with the first book. Can’t wait for the next in the series to come out on audiobook!

Good start to new series

The age mix of main characters (16 thru 30) makes this new series more interesting. Love how Clancy intros each character in the early chapters. She unveils the bizarre annual family event beautifully over the first half of the book. 1st chapter was really fun and creepy.
The narrator was excellent. He had to juggle a ton of voices, accents and changing POVs.
Looking forward to the 2nd book! Want to know more about Basheba!

Great narrator and perfect amount of creep!

There is no book more thought-provoking than a suspenseful book involving lineage! This book definitely makes you think about what is hidden in your family’s past, especially when you don’t know the entire truth about your parentage, or even further back in the line. what could possibly happen when you have four young people and a dog who have to do their part as members of different families to Defeat an evil and vengeful which? read and see! A more perfect narrator couldn’t have been chosen for this series!

Haunting

I did enjoy listening to this rather than reading due to good narration and the characters even though it took a while to get into the last 1/3 was great. It is always upsetting when children are taken and their torment. Look forward to next book to find out what goes on with Basheba, Buck, Cadwyn, Mina, and Ozzie . Is Katrina coming back for the next harvest? Keep writing!

Meh and good

The idea of this book is great. The characters are fairly well developed and the plot line was generally done well… That being said the author skips from scene to scene and the actual storyline could be so much better developed. I feel like I’m missing something…

it’s like cold pizza…. It’s edible and doesn’t disappoint … but a fresh baked pie loaded with tons of toppings is so much better…

Reading it was Fun, Listening To it is Even Better

This Series is So Awesome that I pulled many all night reading sessions, completely obsessed with the storyline, the characters, and the events as they occurred, I just had to know what happened next. Waiting for the next addition in this series couldn't arrive fast enough. On a personal note, I like to re-read each book in a series before starting my newest acquisition, this way it refreshes my memory about the characters and events which occurred. Listening to a book allows one to catch things you might have missed when reading it, most likely caused when taking a break to do something else, like sleeping 😉.

With Audible books, the importance of getting the right orator can change the way one connects with it, a bad orator can ruin it no matter how good it is. Fortunately for this series, John Pirhalla is an Excellent orator. John's pace with the storyline, events that occur, voice inflection with character dialogue, and even his actual "voice" pulls you in. I own this series in multiple formats (book, ebook, & Audible), it's that good! Highly Recommended!
