Publisher's Summary

Sometimes the dead reach back....

Leigh Harker’s quiet suburban home was her sanctuary for more than a decade, until things abruptly changed. Curtains open by themselves. Radios turn off and on. And a dark figure looms in the shadows of her bedroom door at night, watching her, waiting for her to finally let down her guard enough to fall asleep.

Pushed to her limits but unwilling to abandon her home, Leigh struggles to find answers. But each step forces her towards something more terrifying than she ever imagined.

A poisonous shadow seeps from the locked door beneath the stairs. The handle rattles through the night and fingernails scratch at the wood. Her home harbours dangerous secrets, and now that Leigh is trapped within its walls, she fears she may never escape.

Do you think you’re safe?

You’re wrong.

Terrifically Terrifying!

I'm the type of person who can figure out the plot of a novel within the first 2 chapters. After that I become horribly bored.
Not with this book. Darcy Coates is so masterful in her execution of The Haunting of Leigh Harker, that I was puzzled, and terrified, the entire way through this twisting and turning novel. I'm not easy to please, but this novel surpassed my expectation tenfold.
The narrator is absolutely perfect. She breathes a lot of suspense into the novel.
well done!

Very Disappointing

I love almost all of Darcy Coates' books, and the couple I wasn't thrilled with, I finished and understood they just weren't for me.

This book is just confusing. I'm not sure what the intent is, literary horror? Unfortunately, it doesn't work. It's like a first draft where she's still working out the kinks, tossing around the ideas. I skipped to the very last chapter and then went back to the beginning with what I thought was a grasp of where the story was going, but still couldn't get into it. There are very few books that can survive on one character's interior dialogue, and this isn't one of them.

Sorry, but I'll be returning it.

Just boring

A woman alone in her house hears noises. Six chapters later and nothing else has happened. I really liked the Ashburn House book by this author but Haunting of Leigh Harker is a huge disappointment, and waste of money.

Repetitive

This book was okay. I feel like a lot of time was wasted droning on and on about the same things. I think at one point I even stated out loud, “We get it!”.
The reader was good. That’s the main reason for the 3 stars. The story is 2 stars.

Very solid Ghost Story

Decent twists and enough mystery to make this enjoyable. I liked the somewhat fluid nature of the world/rules. A few intense and memorable scenes no real graphic violence.

The first act ramps up quickly. It starts fast and doesn’t slow down until the second act changes the scope. The second act is carried heavily by the mysteries and there is much less tension. I suspect that is where a lot of people who didn’t like the book drew the line. The third act was solid albeit a bit low stakes.

Definitely recommended if you want supernatural tension built around a series of mysteries. If you not interested/invested in the mysteries it’s going to be a tough sell on the last 2/3 of the book.

I enjoyed Darcy’s writing style and the narration.

Very slow Story

This was a very slow story, I felt it was just drug out and somewhat boring. Most of her books I’ve read before kept me on the edge of my seat! They were exciting and I couldn’t put them down. This book was so boring I only listened to is when we happened to be on road trips, most the time forgetting about it entirely. I wouldn’t recommend this book, I’ll still give her books a shot in the future but this one just wasn’t one of my favorites.

Disappointing

This was such an unpleasant read that I could only get halfway through. The book rambles and the story is unclear.

Oh Darcy Coates you failed me

I literally tried over the course of a few weeks to listen to this book. On the fourth try I gave it my all . Was too easy to figure out what was going on but persevered but after a couple hours of enduring I gave up, cheated and listened to the last 2 chapters willing the torture ( my own) to end. . To start , the first person commentary is not my thing. I absolutely am a fan of most of Darcy Coates books( it all started with finding a book by her at the library unaware of her popularity. But she failed me on this one( can’t win ‘em all) . Sorry I really can’t find any reason to recommend this particular book due to it being it was no surprise right from the start with no originality.

Very boring

This was a huge disappointment. I usually think her books are pretty cute and usually a safe bet. Unfortunately, this book relied almost entirely on this woman’s inner monologue. It is her hearing noise for chapters and chapters and chapters. Literally nothing is happening. I keep thinking with each chapter this author has to snap out of this droning. Not so

Laborious

I love Darcy Coates. She is an excellent author. But this book missed the mark. This would have been a great novella. The inner monologue is the main character makes up almost the entirety of the book and drones on for far too long. The story has large gaps that never come together. I almost stopped this one multiple times but kept going back hoping there would be a big payoff. There wasn’t. The last 2 chapters are good but the buildup was tedious and felt like work. Skip this book. Hoping her next book is back up to par.

fantastic story

I was hooked as soon as I heard the first few sentences. I smiled, I cried and I was afraid for certain characters. I adored this, it had everything I love in a ghost story

Complete waste of a credit

I read the reviews and wonder if the authors were listening to a different book. This is the most boring and dreadful book I have ever listened to or read. It’s slow slow story bu chapter 8 was repetitive and very boring. I persevered until chapter 8 as some reviews said it takes a few chapters to get into the book … they were wrong .. simply awful

Spine chillingly amazing!

Get past the first few chapters, trust me! And from there on, it's head spins and dizzy spells, but in the best way possible.
I've always enjoyed Darcy Coates' books but this one, perfect for spooky season, gets you right in the mood for Halloween!

Phenomenal Ghost Story

From the first to the last page I was transfixed. What a phenomenal story, superbly narrated, well written and one of the best page turners I’ve read in a long time. If you love ghost stories this is one of the best by far. We’ll done to author and narrator 👏👏👏👏

another fabulous ghost story by Darcy coates

⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Haunting of Leigh Harker
By Darcy Coates

I loved this story. I've read a few others by Darcy Coates and really enjoyed them. This one was a little harder to get into but from about page 100 it all starts to come together and make more sense. Just when you think you have the book sussed, it surprises you with a Haunting twist. There is so much mystery it really keeps you on your toes and keeps you thinking about what will happen next.
