Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 2005, during a difficult time. Competition was more intense than ever, and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company’s history. Story
Growth has been both an unspoken and an explicit aim of our individual and collective striving. It governs the lives of microorganisms and galaxies; it shapes the capabilities of our extraordinarily large brains and the fortunes of our economies. Growth is manifested in annual increments of continental crust, a rising gross domestic product, a child's growth chart, the spread of cancerous cells. In this magisterial book, Vaclav Smil offers systematic investigation of growth in nature and society, from tiny organisms to the trajectories of empires and civilizations.

Love this book to the last minute/page. It's amazing mixture of author's prominent life story and ancient wisdom stripped to the essential. Must read for anyone who feels that there's more in this life beyond consumption, ego and achievement driven pursuits.

Great introduction to mindfulness
Having used the headspace app for the better part of the past 5 years or so, it was entertaining to hear some of the stories from founder Addy, and it was interesting to hear where certain techniques used in the app are coming from. This book has deepened my understanding, although I’ve been meditating for quite some years already. I’ll probably listen to this audiobook another time in the future as only repetition of anything can lead to mastery. If you’re very experienced in meditation, then this book might not be for you, but for anyone having no, little or intermediate experience it can help enrich your practice.

Simple and Accesible
The form of the book is understandable and is good for beginning with meditation without needing any religious explanations. It's also good companion to Headspace app, because some exercises and attitudes are more explained and in one place. Also Andy's sort of sweet voice is pleasing in the narrative.

Get some headspace
Andy Puddicombe is the star that shines above the blue skies.
If you are having trouble with depression, or trouble sleeping, this could be your answer.
Andy has a personality and a way with words that helps you to understand although the bad stuff will always be there, it doesn't have to control youf life.
Andy uses his own life's exleriences to walk you through mindfulness.
His journey as a trainee monk takes you gently with him on his learning path as he seeks to quieten his mind and come to terms with past experiences.
Andy does not preach, he doesn't say you have to do this or that, he explains using analogies and stories how to manage feelings of depression and says there will be relapses but using mindfulness, these can be dealt with.
Each to their own; for me, Andy seems to make sense. He is not pretentious and is easy to listen to. I'm glad I found him.

Interesting story...
I enjoyed listening to this almost autobiographical account of one man's journey in meditation. There were some good pointers. I think I would purchase another more technical guide (less anecdotal) to support Andy's story. But, absolutely no regrets. Easy listening.

where is the actual 10 minute guided meditation?
so I'm happy to change this review if someone can tell me exactly where this 10 minute guided mediation is? it's a long audiobook with interesting stories about meditation and mindfulness but it's pretty jumbled in that there doesn't actually appear to be a chapter, or chapters with the actual recommend guided mediation which has sort of rendered the time listening to it a bit pointless.

Good introduction to meditation
This audiobook provides an excellent non-mystical basis for meditation, more akin to helping your outlook on life and helping in specific areas (sleep, eating etc). A number of interesting anecdotes along the way too.

I was not a stranger to Headspace, having used the app for a while - however I found this audiobook to provide so much more insight into the techniques, the setup and reasons for them, put forward in such an engaging and thoughtful manner. Andy's personal experiences are so colourful and such great analogies to thought processes that I found it all as a whole thoroughly enjoying as well.

A gift and a ‘must read’ to anyone interested in mindfulness and meditation
I have done a very expensive course in transcendental meditation and did not get nearly the depth of insight that I received from this book. Thank you Andy, as always for your generosity and humanity in sharing your journey. Reading this book has deepened my understanding of meditation techniques, how and why they work and this has already started to give me more out of my practice. This book, you and the Headspace app are gifts to the world. Thank you.

The best start to mindfulness
This book was excellent overall. The stories he tells about his experiences helps to put into perspective whatever he's trying to teach. The actual techniques of meditation didn't take up too much time (as expected) because the instructions are fairly simple and can also be found in his guided meditations. I was satisfied with him putting much more emphasis on the lessons to be learnt, the purpose and functions of the techniques and how it all fits into our daily life and routine.
The author's experience and wisdom is very evident in this book. He always puts it into perspective for the everyday person to understand the methods and integrate them into their daily life.
Great book and a great start to living a much more mindful life.

This guide by Andy Puddicombe is great for beginners and pros alike, as it helps you understand the why behind meditation, how it could potentially help you, and how to incorporate mindfulness in all facets of your life.
The fact that Andy narrates it all the way makes it even better.
