Beautiful Wording & Story

This is the second story of a trilogy starring Tea and the story of how she battles the Faceless to save her friends while losing herself to the darkness caused by her actions. The moral dilemmas and court intrigue are wrapped in a beautiful delivery that rotates between her first person actions, and the bard that is charged with telling her tale. I highly recommend this book, but only after reading the original as it is a continuation of the tale.

Amazing continuation of the bone witch

I absolutely loved this continuation of The Bone Witch and I can't wait to start the third. The only complaint I have is that the narrator's pronounced alot of names and words differently from how they did in the first book.

A very pleasant and engaging surprise.

I got this trilogy using the audible plus library. It was the first thing I downloaded from it, so I wasn't sure what to expect with regard to quality. The first thing I want to say is that I thoroughly and completely enjoyed this trilogy. It exceeded my expectations on nearly every level. Both narrators did an excellent job bringing the book to life and remained consistent throughout the trilogy. The story was intriguing, the characters compelling, and the pacing of the story was perfect, leading to a solid and satisfying conclusion. The only (very minor) thing that I noticed was that, on occasion, the word choice in dialogue doesn't fit with the world (i.e. "crush" as having feelings for someone). Besides that, I am recommending this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy. I wouldn't call it young adult fiction and I wouldn't call it adult fiction, but it's right on the fence between the two. Definitely worth a listen.

Spellbinding Sequal

As this beautiful yet dark tale continues, I find that I have become even more enchanted with these books. With what feels like a nod to Japanese or Eastern culture giving it a particularly special originality, I feel like The Bone Witch and now this sequel have a wonderful spellbinding quality that leaves me hoping that this world continues to grow even after we find out what happens to Tea and company. Excellent narrative, very well narrated by the Will Damron (the present) and Emily Woo Zeller (the past) and a fantastic journey that I look forward to continuing.

so much better than the first one

I put off reading this book because I found the first one a bit slow for the first ¾ of the book. However when the app added it to the audible plus catalogue I thought I might as well give it a go.
it turns out it's way better than the first book! the pace of the book is better, its got a lot more action but at the same time is written superbly so you feel like your in the story.
It's just a fantastic darker fantasy book!
I can't wait to read the next one!

Awesome!

This was the first Series of books I have listened to by this author. If you adore fantasy, good battling against evil, dragons and other mythical beasts then this is the series for you! It maybe classed as a YA but, if like me, your inner child cries out for a bedtime story then you will not be disappointed! True there is more romance in the 2nd and 3rd book of the series but the tale is woven deftly and the imagery beautiful. Will be listening to this series again and again.
Warning: If you get caught up in the story, you won't get much sleep until the last line of the 3rd book! Enjoy!

Wonderfully written & narrated

The perfect narrator for this magically charged story, book 2 of the series.
Book 1 was so good that I couldn't imagine that book 2 could equal it; I was so wrong.
I have loved every minute of it and the only disappointment was that it ended.

Complex world building

If “Memoirs of a Geisha” by Arthur Golden, the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, and the “Song of the Shattered Sands” series by Bradley Beaulieu got together and had a baby - I think this is the book they would birth. Rin Chupeco has mastered the art of complex world building, as well as weaving together split chronological narratives in a delightful teasing play, drawing the reader inexorably onwards into the drama. Well narrated, this audio book is definitely worth a listen!

Great trilogy, just not so much for audio

This trilogy becomes quite confusing on Audible, I do believe this is one of those series that you need to read to thoroughly enjoy. one tip, the female narrator is the past, the male narrator present. I didn't figure that out until book 2. It's a fabulous story and I'm going to listen again as I now totally understand it (in a way I couldn't until the end) there is so much I didn't understand and want to listen for all the bits I didn't pick up.
