Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

You should never judge how someone chooses to raise their child.

Elizabeth and Bryony are polar opposites, but their unexpected friendship has always worked. They're the best of friends and godmothers to each other's daughters - because they trust that the safety of their children is both of their top priority.

But what if their choice could harm your own child?

Little do they know that they differ radically over one very important issue. And when Bryony, afraid of being judged, tells what is supposed to be a harmless white lie before a child's birthday party, the consequences are more catastrophic than either of them could ever have imagined....

"Really beautifully written, compassionately told and incredibly thought provoking. A truly immersive telling of both sides of a story." (Susan Lewis, Sunday Times best-selling author)

"Gripping, thought-provoking, moving and oh-so-topical, The Herd tackles the most divisive parenting issue of our age with skill and compassion. Fans of Jodi Picoult will DEVOUR it." (Tammy Cohen)

Excellent story loved every minute of it.

My daughter had read/listened to it first and had raved about it, so I gave it a go. She was right - it was a very compelling, thought provoking book which didn’t just concentrate on the women’s role but gave a real insight to the mens’ also. I found myself thinking about what happened with my own children when they had been vaccinated.

It was different to any book I’ve read, certainly, for a long time.

Excellent

The third book by Emily that again I have absolutely loved, brilliantly written and hooks you from the first page as they all do. This book is incredibly applicable in this day and age and amazing that Emily wrote it just before the pandemic started.

MMR

MMR vaccine would not prevent a child from contracting meningitis, who researched this atrocious attempt at finger pointing parents who have chosen not to vaccinate as is their right.

Timely, nuanced and astute

At first I thought this was just another contrived and pretentious novel cataloguing the modern day bourgeoisie. But after the initial forced first few chapters which seem a little fake, the story takes over and I became invested in the characters. The vaccine debacle has obviously become a lot more topical since covid and this novel sheds light on a contentious issue without patronising the reader or taking specific sides. The characters were perhaps a little two-dimensional but I will forgive it this for the excellent plot and interesting narrative.

Very engaging, recommend.

Great narration, easy to follow story line, well written. No violence, or gory details.
A hot topic, thoughtfully tackled in a drama within a domestic every day setting.
I was absorbed from the beginning.

A Brilliant read

Emily Edwards has taken a moral dilemma and made it into an incredibly thought-provoking story.

This book is completely addictive I quite simply couldn’t put it down and I’m looking forward to her next publication.

Topical

This book was an interesting exploration of the fear and emotions surrounding childhood vaccinations and the devastating impact that the decision to not vaccinate can have. It’s well narrated and as I progressed in the book I found myself having empathy for those on the opposite side of the debate
