Story
Young wizards coming of age in a time of war... Will they be ready? Eynon was excited to leave his village and set off on his wander year. He’d turned sixteen today, and hoped for at least a few adventures. At high noon, he arrived a crossroads and saw a shimmer of silver in the mud. It was a thin and dirty oval, about the size of his palm. He washed it with squirts of water from his goatskin, then marveled at what was revealed.

Publisher's Summary
Tension is high at the Royal Institute of Magic, as the directors of each of the departments - Spellswords, Wardens, Traders, Scholars and Diplomats - work together with their allies to push back the dark elf invasion, led by King Suktar.
But Ben Greenwood knows the truth: the only real way they are going to win is if he and the Guardians do the unthinkable and infiltrate the heart of the dark elf homeland - ending the evil king’s rule once and for all.
As if that wasn’t enough, a new power has come into play. Queen Elizabeth was aware of it all those years ago, and she predicted it would continue to influence their mission to the bitter end: the High Council.
Can the Guardians harness the strange magic of the armour? And will it really be enough to bring down such a powerful wizard as the dark elf king? In a race against time, and with his friends beside him, Ben Greenwood must face his greatest challenge yet.
The High Council is the sixth and final book in the Royal Institute of Magic series.

Satisfying conclusion
I have so enjoyed this series and this final book is no exception. Just when you think “oh surely this is the end”, Victor takes another unexpected turn and there’s more story to love. Peter does a masterful job of bringing the whole cast of characters to life. My only real regret is that this is Victor’s final book. I would have loved to hear more from him.

Worth It!!!!!
I downloaded the first book on a whim and found myself falling down a rabbit hole of magic and friendship. While this epic fantasy novel is geared toward teens, the story is intricate enough that it could satisfy any adult looking for a coming of age story of adventure and friendship. This is worth the read especially for fans of role playing games and urban fantasy!

I thought it was a great series!
Take it for what it is. It's not Othello or War and Peace. But what fun are those? This book is fun, magical, whimsical at times and comes with characters who struggle with their own weaknesses while learning how to rely on and support each other. This in turn makes them stronger as individuals and teaches them valuable lessons about life, death and even mercy. I was sorry to see it end with the last book, but I will keep the memories of an excellent series of books, a great author and very talented narrator!

I listened al six of the books in the series and found them absolutely brilliant. Once started, I could not stop listening until the series was finished. Excellent ending, leaving the author to continue with the characters in other adventures and I sincerely hope he does.
