I don’t know

The world building is very good and, honestly, the only reason I kept listening. The narration is fine. But there’s a lack of tension/stakes and it seems the details that should matter (like the plot) are kind of glossed over to make way for what I thought would be a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance plot that’s really just love at first sight that’s so cheesy I roll my eyes every time the MC is shown how much Hale (sp) cares but convinces herself he doesn’t for no reason. Then there’s the MC herself, Remy. I don’t really connect with her because she’s so all over the place, yet toeing the line of being a Mary Sue. One minute she’s so insecure she needs consoling/validation. One minute she’s so cocky, stubborn, and demanding like a spoiled teenager. And for someone who believes Hale doesn’t like her, she’s possessive over him when other women express interest. Sometimes, she makes mistakes but doesn’t seem to learn from the mistakes made. There never seems to be any real consequences for this. She’s beautiful (we keep being told this), powerful, and whatever task is given to her she can do it-no problem. And they as a group seem to be in no real hurry to get to where they’re going. At the 2-4 hour mark I questioned whether or not I should keep listening. Gave 4 stars because the narration was still entertaining despite all this.

Didn't care for the narration

I think I would have liked this better if I read it. The narration was strange. All the accents and characters sounded the same or child like.

amazing book and even better LGBTQ representation

OMG. this is a good storyline and captivating. the narrator is good. took a bit to get used to the tone though. but the best part was the LGBT representation. this is the first book I've read where a character was enby. absolutely made my day.

Needs a different narrator

I really enjoyed the book itself but ended up turning off the narration because the voices were honestly terrible. The in between moments of no dialog were fine and I grew to like the narrators voice and accent but when dialogue started it changed to this insanely over the top fake sounding almost French accent. Even the MC which is normally just the narrators regular voice was different and weird. Just not something you want to listen to for 15 hours..

Absolutely Stunning and Beautiful Story

I loved this story so much. Remy is amazing and A. K. Mulford so very talented. This is a wonderfully written fantasy book full of adventure and fated love. The audio was beautifully done. I highly recommend.

Not my favorite

It wasn't my favorite. I'm sure this is the right book for some but I did not finish. I was looking for a more serious fantasy novel and this is definitely more classically romance. The enemies to lovers thing with this was over the top and obvious from the beginning and really lacked the subtlety that would have made it feel more natural and realistic. I'm sure the author is writing well to her genre but I became bored with it.

Not Epic Fantasy

This is a romance novel with magic, definitely not Epic Fantasy. If you're looking for a fluffy slow burn romance and don't mind some plot holes and shallow characters, it might be worth the read. The narrator isn't terrible, but struggles to differentiate between any character but the main. If names weren't listed in the sentences, you'd have no idea who is speaking. The last three hours of the book are also "bonus content," so the actual novel is much shorter than it appears.

Amazing Book

I don't usually write reviews but this book gripped me immediately.

This book has adventure, spice, wonderful romance, effortless LGBTQ+ representation (it doesn't feel too try-hard although it is all side characters, so not the book if you're looking specifically for LGBTQ+). It's action scenes are intense and wonderfully written. The world building is magical. The narrator was also very good. Some of the voices she did were a little strange and took me out of the story at first, but you get used to it.

I don't usually go for series' that change perspective, it's one of my biggest pet peeves. But this story left loose ends that make me want to read from the other character's perspectives. It gave me an emotional connection with the other characters that has me excited to read what happens to them.

Anyways, 10/10 recommend.

Annoying Romance Subplot

I didn't know this was a romance novel. how annoying. I just wanted an exciting fantasy fiction quest tail. 😫

Clearly ACOTAR Inspired

I believe it can be a good read for ACOTAR hangover. It is in a magical triangle of fantasy, romance, and spice.
For me personally, it stands a little bit too week on plot, tension, and drama, making it feel too safe. By the end, it got a little boring.
I would not choose this narrator though. Her male voices are not sexy at all. Mc sounds like a little girl.
